China House - Oakmont
Easily the best Chinese I've had since moving to PA. My family got the general tso chicken and fried rice, chicken and broccoli with lo mein and crab rangoons all of which were so delicious. With that being said the prices are steep compared to other places and to charge an extra $3.75 to substitute for lo mein is unreasonable when a side order of lo mein is $4.75. The price isn't a deal breaker since the quality of food is so great however we will not be able to order as much as we'd like due to this.
The food was pretty good. The spot itself is laid back, hole in the wall type of place. A solid choice for dinner (and the Oakmont Bakery is right there for dessert, too). I went for a simple order and just tried their fried dumplings. They were nothing special but not bad. The stuffing itself is pretty good. Pork, a lot of cabbage, a bit of other vegetables. Sort of bland on the inside, though. It pairs well with the dumpling sauce. I didn't really like the dumpling casing, though. It was very hard and tasted somewhat stale. The balance of stuffing to casing was a tad bit off as well. Otherwise, a solid spot. Nothing special but you have all the classic American-Chinese dishes offered here. Portions are okay, and prices are a bit higher than average.
