Winner
The prices here are insanely low for what you get - a lunch special only costs about $8 after tax, but you not only get your main+fried rice, you also get soup and fried wonton skin. Not to mention that the food tastes pretty good too, I would pay for it even if it cost like $15. The store itself is just a takeout counter.
Sad to say but winner, is a loser. The chicken was fried nicely, that brings us to the end of the positives. The sauce was completely one dimensional of just sweet. For a General Tso’s you expect a little “something”. This was sesame chicken minus the seeds. Just thickened sugar water on chicken. The “fried rice” was yellow rice with pork added. I’m not sure why places in the Poconos do this, but there are only a handful of places that make real fried rice. This isn’t one of them. The chicken nicely fried, the egg roll not so much. Overcooked and greasy. The cost was $10 and change. It said you get a discount for using cash so I did. No discount. Save yourself the trouble, go somewhere else. Winner - sucked.
China Pearl Restaurant (Take-out Only, no Dine-In)
This place is great. This is my third time ordering take out and the food has been consistently wonderful. It takes me 30 minutes to get there but it is worth the travel. The places near to me have been cutting back on the portions but not China Pearl. The containers are packed full and the food is very tasty and does not disappoint. Go to China Pearl and see for yourself.
You'd be hard pressed to find worse Chinese food anywhere in the country. It's almost like they intentionally make the food as bad as possible. This is likely because their prime market is tourists, so they don't rely on return customers, but disgusting is an understatement after trying six different dishes.
SHAHS HALAL FOOD MOUNT POCONO
Coming from NY. I must say this combo platter is amazing, taste every bit of seasoning. Oh don't forget to ad the white sauce, and one line of hot sauce two lines if you like hot food. Best part they open at 10am.
Great food! I was a customer waiting for them to open. And I was not disappointed. I love the spacious layout of the dining room and also the colorful decor in the location. The food was fresh, hot, and very good. I have the fish platter that comes with rice and I selected beans. And had a green sauce that was cilantro and a white sauce I got both. I will be returning. I had takeout and I recommend even sitting in for a quick lunch or dinner meal with friends and family. Great location.
Sabor Caribeño Restaurant
I mean the food is alright but what you get for what you pay is crazy. I ordered a large Pernil and Rice with beans. I got a small cup of mostly juice with a few mushed up beans at the bottom and a tray FULL of white rice with a little bit of pernil on top. It’s $15 I should get a decent amount. This is probably the last time we will order from here. Came to edit after eating as others have said nothing has flavor and for some reason the red beans were sweet.
On Monday 6/24/24, I went to this establishment to get some Sancocho (soup) for my sick child. I politely asked the young eccentric lady to not include any meats or vegetables. I only wanted the broth as my kid doesn’t like the extra stuff it brings. My first red flag should’ve been when she said the kitchen has to “make it but it will be out right away”. As a Dominican myself, I am very aware that Sancocho takes hours to make. Hence, why I didn’t make it myself at home. She asked me to have a seat and wait. I did. I waited about 10 minutes more or less. She brings the soup out and I see that it’s mostly chunks of corn and root vegetables. Which took up 90% of the container. I reminded her that I didn’t want any meats or vegetables. She clarified by asking “so no kinds of meats or anything?” I politely answered “yes that’s right, just the broth please.” I thought maybe she didn’t understand at first. Ok cool. I wait ANOTHER 10 minutes. At this point, I ask if the order was ready. She said it’ll be a few more minutes but she would check with the kitchen to see what’s taking so long. A few more minutes come by and she comes out and heads straight to my bag (that had other items I ordered) and puts the container inside. I walked up to the front where she was. I put my hand on the container, and peeked from the top lid to see if I saw any “chunks”. When I felt how cold the container was, I said “really? COLD? You’re killing me. I’ve been waiting for almost 30 minutes for a COLD soup?? What have ya been doing back there??” She was not apologetic or offered to rectify the situation. I was annoyed and disappointed so I left to go home to my sick kid. When I got home… I opened the container and the oozing sound it made churned my stomach. As you can see in the video, this soup is OLD. how can you serve COLD and OLD soup?? It made me wonder what other old/ reheated food are they serving??? I’m so disappointed. Never again.
Brother Bruno's Pizza
We were at the pocono on vacation, for my baby boys birthday our 2nd day there we stopped at “bro Bruno Pizza” we ordered cheese fries, 2 cheesesteaks with mayo and extra cheese, 1 buffalo chicken cheesesteak 1 large cheese pie and a kids chicken finger w fries. But one of our cheesesteaks had mushrooms we never ordered mushrooms we do not eat mushrooms especially not on cheesesteaks. I kindly said is fine I don’t want it just take that cheesesteak off our bill I’ll just settle for the pizza. The waitress said okay sorry about that. The waitress leaves and comes back with the cheesesteak the same one with the mushrooms and said they are making me bring it to you, I said but I don’t eat mushrooms I didn’t order that she said I know but they are making me bring it to you they aren’t listening to me, Can you tell them you don’t want it please. So I got up and took the cheesesteak up there to the owner and I kindly said sir I didn’t order mushrooms I ordered a plain steak I don’t want this and I am not paying for something I didn’t order. The owner then got really nasty with me he got so loud my husband had to get up and come over to see what was happening, when he seen that man get up he calmed down asap. When it was time to leave he tried to give me a 200$ bill I said dude what is wrong with you. When the original bill that the waitress brought out was 77$. Long story cut short the owner/manager of this business is a nasty mean and greedy man. The waitress was a lovely girl who I felt really bad for she did not deserve to get treated like that no employee deserves that. Next time I will record everything cause this was terrible.
I can only speak on a single slice that was a re-heat and I am due to return and try out some more stuff. I stopped in December of 2021 so as you can see, it's been quite some time since then and I need to get back up there and do a re-visit. The guy behind the counter was pretty much a typical pizza place employee...not what I'd call "friendly", not unfriendly...just adequate. Maybe 6-8 tables inside but mostly geared towards takeout. So a slice and a soda was over $6, so that was a bit concerning out of the gate, but I don't just based on stuff like that solely. I enjoyed the slice. There was a nice char underneath which I love, good snap to the crust, it was nice and thin, good cheese to sauce ratio. Not much else I can really say about it other than I'm due to head back in. If you're just looking for a slice though, Brother Bruno's - DIdn't Suck!
Roberto's pizza and restaurant
My family of 6 stayed at Kalahari for my wife’s birthday. We were looking for somewhere close to eat that wasn’t at the resort. My wife found Roberto’s and it was amazing. The people were great and the food was cooked better than expected. They even gave us a free dessert for our anniversary. I highly recommend this place, it did not disappoint. We have a son in a wheelchair and had no issue getting him in and out.
We were staying at Kalahari and wanted some good Italian food. We're originally from NY so we are very picky about our pizza. We got a cheese/pepperoni pie, lasagna with garlic bread, chicken parm and some garlic knots. Everything was DELICIOUS!!!! The sauce was amazing!!!! Roberto and Missy were so nice to chat with!!!! We will definitely be back when on this side of town !!!!
Sherry's Place
This experience was awesome. I’ve heard about this place for a long while but never actually went before. I’m glad I did, and I’ll be coming back. Their cheesesteaks were badass. Mine had a hint of jalapeño in them and it made all the difference in the world. Their fries were crisp and perfectly cooked. I don’t usually enjoy hot dogs but even they were good (Sabrett dogs with spicy mustard, ketchup & cheese). I’d highly recommend this place. It’s worth coming to even if you have nothing else to do in the area.
Without a doubt the best food in the pocono area. The cheesesteaks are loaded with meat, they definitely do not skimp on that. We were here about 10 years ago. Great to see that they’re still here. The food is exactly the way I remembered it and with the same menu. They just shows quality. Hopefully we’ll see you guys in another 10 years.
Golden Dragon
To-go order... it was ready, spoons, forks, sauces, cookies... very well packed and the food was good... very nice lady at the front counter, helpful and clean attentive to detail
Thanks for the worst egg roll i have ever received. I get mistakes happen and things burn. But this should have never reached a customer. This was my go to Chinese food spot. Lost my business 🙃
