China King
Best Chinese I have had in a long time... Good Spice and Great Flavor.. will definitely order again and again!!!
I get take-out from here several times a month. It is always consistently great and the portions are huge! For $8-$9, you can get a large lunch special and it is enough to last for 2 meals. The owners are super nice as well!
Weng's Garden
Stopped at Weng’s in a pinch to pick up dinner on my way home from a busy day. It wouldn’t be my first choice, but I’m always open to trying new places. Apollo natives have a following towards this establishment. Food was standard, more on the darker side, kind of burnt or overcooked in some aspects. Dumplings were good, but way too much dough for me. Very heavy on the dough. Service was quick, I wasn’t waiting long at all. Employees were efficient and tentative. Atmosphere resembles your standard Chinese restaurant. Nothing good or bad to say here. My recommendation is to plan a visit and try for yourself. I am trending on the once is enough side, however your opinions may be different.
Our first visit to Wengs Garden. We entered and we're greeted by nice large fish tank occupied by a beautiful fish. Although the inside of the restaurant may need some updating and a little background music, we were welcomed by one of the owners. We ordered appetizers, soups and 4 entrees to share family style. The fried items were crisp and delicious, not greasy one bit. The accompanying sauces were very nice and added greatly to the dish they accompanied. The meats were cooked beautifully and the plentiful vegetables were cooked perfectly. We barely put a dent into all we ordered so brought some home for another meal. The owners have been in this spot for 20 years. I'm already looking forward to dining there again soon.
New House of Hunan
It is extremely hard to find decent cuisine around here. It's literally all tailored for people who don't eat any spices. I am used to places like China Palace in Monroeville for Chinese food, Everyday Noodles for pork soup dumplings, Maiku for Pho, Salem's for goat curry, Mr Egg for hot pot, Andy's in Wholey's for sushi and I love going to the Asian market, myself. I love supporting small business, so I figured I would try. The egg drop soup and egg rolls were decent, but honestly I could make egg drop soup at home myself. The most disappointing part of my meal was my beef and shrimp. I was expecting it to be in a brown, savory sauce. Nope. It had barely any flavor, and was dry. Super unappetizing. The most disturbing part was that the beef looks like it was dyed fire engine red. What? Why?! How?! Just whyyy?? I wasted my money trying to support local business. With all due respect, if people around here think Chinese food is gross, it's pretty much because they don't actually have access to decent Chinese food. I think I'll just learn to make my own. A trip down to Many More Asian Market would have been more worth my time and money.
Favorite Chinese place in the area. The portions are great and the prices are reasonable. Far better food than the places we used to go to when we lived closer to the city in Penn Hills. And the employees have always been very kind to us. We always call in for a pickup order - they have seating, we just prefer to eat at home.
Old House Of Hunan
Absolutely inedible. We got take out, after getting home and opening the containers, we immediately noticed the food had a very strange and strong odor. We ignored it and plated up our food cause we are hungry. Unfortunately it tasted just as bad as it smelled. Couldn't even eat a bite of it. Slimey and gross. The shrimp egg roll was an overcooked inedible spring roll. I called to ask for a refund (I was polite, calm, and didn't raise my voice), and was told I'd have to bring all of the food back to the restaurant (which is over a half hour away) and they'd swap out our meals. I explained that I was not driving an hour round trip to do that, that I was not comfortable with eating any of their food, and again asked for a refund. They hung up on me. I called back to let them know I was not being rude but we had just spent a fair amount on food we couldn't even eat and if they were insistent on me bringing it back to prove it wasn't eaten, I could drop the food off tomorrow. They yelled at each other and at me saying my only option was to swap out the food for more food. I once again explained that I would not be eating anything they made because I don't trust their food and am afraid that it would make me sick, especially after being yelled at and hung up on. They hung up on me again, so here I am writing this review...money wasted food in the trash.
If I could give this place zero stars I would, but that wasn’t an option. I have been coming here for years but the last few times I have ordered from here it was just absolutely terrible. We ordered egg rolls for my bfs father and when we got home to give him his food I was embarrassed I had him pay for it. They were so tiny, I’ve never even seen an egg roll that small before not even in the frozen section for the mini egg rolls; it was ridiculous. While there, I added a small general tsos which when I got home I realized I paid for a large. The large dishes we ordered were put into small to go containers instead of large. The food tasted like it had been sitting out for days and my kids wouldn’t even touch it. Overall, terrible food. Only good thing was the fast service but I see now why it’s so fast!! Don’t waste your money!! $65 spent on food that wasn’t correct, fresh, or good!!! Worst experience ever!! I’ve include a duck sauce packet compared to the eggroll which is the same size in comparison!!! Just ridiculous!! What a joke!
