R&D
Peking duck set is amazing and worth the visit. Large portions in the set, so it's ideal to share. The R&D fried rice is also really great. Cocktails were really yummy, too. We were too full for dessert, but the menu looked great. It was pretty busy for Valentines Day, so the service was a bit slow.
A decent option if looking for Asian inspired food for a group from work I suppose - good for sharing and palate diversity. That said, as a food lover, the dishes were a bit mediocre. The cavatelli didn't hold the sauce well, so tasted a bit bland. It had the exact same flavour profile as the long bean dish, so a bit redundant. Fried chicken wasn't crisp. Menu describes as 16-spice blend, but flavour was a bit flat. The eggplant was good, but the choice to use a non-Asian eggplant was a bit puzzling.
Swatow Restaurant
I recently visited this Chinese restaurant, and it was a great experience! The atmosphere felt authentic, giving me a true taste of traditional Chinese dining. The menu had a fantastic variety of options, making it hard to choose, but everything we ordered was delicious. The fried noodles were especially good — crispy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. Overall, I highly recommend this place for anyone craving a satisfying and authentic Chinese meal. Would definitely come back again!
One of my absolute favorite Chinese restaurants in Toronto! The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. I particularly love their impressive selection of vegetables—perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. The staff here are exceptional—warm, welcoming, and incredibly hospitable, making every visit a pleasure. Swatow truly captures the heart of authentic Chinese dining, and it’s a go-to spot for anyone looking for a memorable meal. Highly recommend!
Yin Ji Chang Fen 銀記腸粉 (Downtown)
My favorite spot for a hearty carb meal that also doesn't break the bank. I came here on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm and it was able to get a spot for 2. We shared 2 rice rolls and a bowl of congee. The rice rolls were super thin and filled with stuffing. Highly recommend and would come back.
Friendly staff, opens really early. Food is cheap and cheerful, tasted good in general. Tried alot of stuff and everything was tasty, I like the durian balls and truffle rice rolls, the chinese donuts were good too. Only complaint is the congee was thickened with starch so if you leave it for a while it turns watery. It didn't bother me but I know the connesiurs will hate it
Qin's Garden
Qin’s Garden is a fantastic find! The decor is charming—clean and fresh while still feeling warm and welcoming. It has a casual vibe, and the service is super prompt, which makes for an easy and enjoyable dining experience. I was drawn here after seeing it all over Instagram, especially for the soup dumplings. While they were definitely the largest I’ve had in Toronto, they weren’t the best in terms of flavor. That said, the rest of the meal was excellent. The non-soup dumplings, noodle dishes, and rice dishes were all standouts—well-balanced in both flavors and textures, with generous portions and bold flavors. The extensive menu means there’s plenty more to explore, and I can’t wait to go back and try more dishes. If you’re coming for the soup dumplings, they’re worth a try if you prioritize size over taste, but otherwise, skip them and dive into the rest of the menu.
Amazing restaurant. Went there for dinner, and the soup dumplings were delicious, same with the pan fried dumplings, and had one of the best fried rice I’ve ever had. Food wise, it was extremely good. The restaurant atmosphere did not disappoint as well, it was beautiful, and the environment was great. The server was nice and friendly. Overall would highly recommend the restaurant, 10/10!
Mother's Dumplings
Great atmosphere but the food didn’t wow me. It was very enjoyable with interesting flavours in the dumplings, but the dumpling filling didn’t really bring any new flavour profiles to the table and none of the filling combinations I had tasted bold. I had the beef and celery, pork and pickled cabbage and shrimp, chive and egg fillings. These dumplings have very traditional tasting flavours and I will say, the big plus of this place is that all the ingredients taste relatively fresh. Even the dumpling itself and pancake batter taste very light and clean. That being said I personally would prefer a spot that had bolder flavours, but if that’s not your vibe then maybe you’ll like this place
Located near College and Spadina, Mother's Dumplings has earned a spot in the Michelin recommended guide for 2024, which prompted our visit to try it out. The restaurant is fairly good in speed and quality, and the food served was generally good. However, it fell a little short due to the flavours that we were expecting in 'standard' dishes that we try at places to set the initial experience. During our experience, we ordered several items from the menu like the Pork and Chives Dumplings (boiled), Juicy Pork Bun (essentially soup-filled dumplings), Green Onion Pancake, Hot & Sour Soup, and Potato Salad. The Pork and Chives Dumplings were flavourful but did not stand out compared to other preferred dumplings in Chinatown. In contrast, the Green Onion Pancake was well pan-fried, and best in crispness and taste. The Hot & Sour Soup was filling for its medium size, although it lacked the expected sourness. The Potato Salad presented a unique twist, being slightly sweet and spicy, with shredded carrots and thinly sliced potatoes. However, it deviated from the traditional expectations of potato salad, which typically includes a vinegar-based dressing. The service at Mother's Dumplings was very quick to turn around our food and attentive staff who promptly noticed that our dumplings did not include the right amount and proactively told the kitchen to begin cooking additional portions without delay. Additionally, they offer the option to purchase frozen bags of dumplings to take home for later. Lastly, they only take cash or debit.
Juicy Dumpling
The staff is nice and friendly. The $2.99 for 6 dumplings is a good deal. It requires purchasing over $10 to have this offer. There are many students and youngsters in this restaurant during lunch time.
The best dumpling shop in Chinatown with the lowest prices!! Must-try when visiting the area. I got the pan fried pork soup dumplings and they were sooo good!! Super juicy on the inside and charred flavour on the bottom sets them apart from everywhere else. Absolutely delicious!! Pan-fried soup dumplings are only $5.99 and the steamed soup dumplings are only $4.99, which is absolutely unheard of. They have limited seating inside. The store can be accessed from the main entrance on Dundas St or from inside the Dragon City Mall. Highly highly recommend!!!
Fudao Noodle House
Always love coming to this place. Very consistent, friendly, and most importantly, the soup is always piping hot! Would recommend to anyone.
Very cosy place with delicious, unpretentious food that tastes home-cooked and natural and has wholesome ingredients. The menu is simple. The soup tastes hearty and clean - without lots of greasy or attention-grabbing flavour enhancers. The people are very nice and make you feel at home. Genuine hospitality and generosity m, offering free noodle top-ups to the delicious soup - if any were to remain in the pot.😊
New Sky Restaurant
This place takes only cash or debit. Lots of seating and had no problems getting a table right away on a Sunday evening. They served tea as well for the table. The BBQ pork fried rice was flavourful and I liked the texture of the rice. The rest of the food came a bit later. The chow mein was decent. I would have liked it to have a bit more flavour and found it a bit bland. The string beans were crispy and tasted good. We also had a beef dish, which didn’t have as much meat as we were expecting. That wasn’t so flavourful either. All in all, it’s a good amount of food for the price and the quality was fair.
New Sky Garden restaurant by Spadina and College is a local staple, established in Chinatown for decades. This review is based on a recent delivery order so no comments are made for in-person environment or customer service. I ordered a selection of dishes: Beef sauteed with ginger and green onions Crispy beef with sesame - by far our favorite. The beef is coated and fried with a slight hint of sweetness, topped with sesame seeds. 4/5 Noodles with chicken and vegetables - this is a little different from the usual fried noodle dish. The noodles didn't seem as crispy or fried as I'm used to which was okay for us because it seemed less oily and not as salty. It suited my palate but I can see it as possibly offputting for others who may be more familiar with the more fried version. 4/5 Grouper and tofu - a favorite in our home. No fuss, plenty of fish and tofu, not too oily or salty, easy to eat and quite comforting. 4/5 Chinese bok choy with garlic - again a simpler dish but so easy to eat with a nice hit or garlic 4/5 Steamed Chinese chicken dish with dates and goji berries - I would say this has great authentic taste, rich and very flavorful. The only downfall is that you dont get a lot of meat and have to pick through it because it is bone in chicken with pieces oddly chopped. 4/5 Ha gow/shrimp dumplings - an easy staple with plenty of shrimp. No complaints overall. Tastes as expected. 4/5 Would I give New Sky Garden another try? I would actually because I'd like to try a few more dishes to get a more well rounded experience. I was eating with others so had to order with their palates in mind. Portions were decent for the price paid. Overall, a pleasurable experience.
Homemade Ramen
After the AutoShow, we stopped for dinner, and I have to admit, I initially found the name of the restaurant hilarious. Turns out, it is a hand-pulled noodle specialty spot, and any doubts I had were completely unnecessary. The noodles stick to the basics in the best way possible, with a perfect texture that I really appreciated. While some might prefer a heavier broth, I loved how light and refreshing it was. For anyone looking for a bowl of soup that is both satisfying and not overly rich, this would be a great choice. From the skewers to the condiments, I noticed that this place does not rely on heavy seasoning but instead focuses on balance and clarity of flavors. The execution was spot on, and I would not mind coming back to explore more of the menu. Overall, the food quality was excellent, the service was decent and kind, and best of all, it will not hurt your wallet. A solid spot worth revisiting!
The fastest service I’ve ever had! The restaurant was busy but we still got our food fast, and it was delicious. Might be a little salty for some so keep that in mind. We got the pancakes and shared some noodles, and got so full from that! I love thick noodles and the texture was perfect!!! 🍜
The Daily Dumpling Wonton Co
It is truly the simple things in life life these lovely little wontons. My heart has been so full after enjoying these little pockets of joy. The chicken soup wontons are absolutely wonderful as well as their vegan wontons with the peanut sauce. I will note this place has very limited seating but don’t let that deter you from trying some of their wontons. They also have bao buns i’ve tried in the past that are super good as well!
We chose the wonton Bento box. Very filling and very filling! The service was quick and friendly. The bento box came with 5 dumplings, noodles, edename, slaw, noodles. You get to choose your sauce and dumpling. There's a row of stools along the front window. Looking forward to returning.
Taste of China Seafood Restaurant
We went to Taste of China Seafood Restaurant in Chinatown to celebrate my grandpa’s 85th birthday, and it was a good time. The vibe was relaxed, and the staff was friendly, which made it nice for our family gathering. The food was alright—nothing amazing, but definitely decent. The seafood was fresh, though some dishes could’ve used a little more flavor. It wasn’t bad, but just a little more kick in the seasoning would’ve made a difference. The service was pretty solid, even with the place being busy. They made sure we had everything we needed, which was cool. Overall, it was a chill spot for the occasion. Not the best food ever, but it worked for the celebration. With a little tweaking, it could be even better. Wouldn’t mind coming back to give it another go 🥳🥳🥳
Follow @bredgyeats for more food reviews and posts! A great spot to get your fixings for a more traditional canto-style experience, with a relaxed atmosphere and familiar tastes. There are the classics that my family usually gets like the black bean beef noodles and seafood fried noodles, but I opted for something a little special this time. King mushrooms, scallops and pork neck meat are stir-fried together along with green peas carrots and celery, with a minimalistic seasoning. I especially loved their dish for its simple, savoury taste and the variety of textures you get, especially the tender crispness of the pork. We got: Seafood Fried Noodle 海鮮炒麵, 皇子菇帶子爽肉, Black Bean Stir Fried Beef Noodle 豉椒牛河
Sky Dragon Chinese Restaurant 龍翔酒樓
I always enjoy my visits to Sky Dragon. The food is consistently fresh and tasty. Some highlights are the chives and shrimp pancake (#20) and rice noodle roll w/ pork and green onion (#39). It's one of the least expensive dim sum options in Chinatown, but the quality is still good. Great views of the city from the dining room. It's fun taking the elevator or stairs to the top of the Dragon City mall. Are there better dim sum places in the city? Absolutely. But food/atmosphere/staff are great at Sky Dragon, especially given its price point.
Ordered take out, the siu mai are very small, almost all dumplings were a bit undercooked & grainy, the spare ribs order is also very small. Taste is ok, but inconsistent
