Congee Wong
Congee Wong's food is good and very consistent. I've never been disappointed coming here. The portions are large and the dishes are made really quickly. Service is speedy and staff are nice. The congee, chow mein, king oyster mushrooms, pork chops were delicious. The food isn't too salty and the sauces are flavourful. The prices are pretty good too with each dish being around $20, but they're definitely made for sharing.
This spot has been a neighborhood staple for a couple of decades and is one of the original locations that helped lay the foundation for what eventually became the Congee Queen empire. The menu is nearly identical to what you’d find at CQ, and the consistency in quality across all their locations is a testament to why they’ve been so successful. On this visit, we ordered Singapore Noodles (extra spicy), 6 Grain Fried Rice, Spicy Salt Squid, and Stir-Fried Green Beans with Olives and Ground Pork—classic Cantonese favorites that never fail to deliver. One thing that always stands out is the unmistakable “wok hei”—the smoky aroma and flavor that’s a hallmark of great Cantonese stir-frying. Each dish arrived piping hot, perfectly seasoned, and prepared with care. After 30 years of dining at their various locations, I can confidently say we’ve never had a bad meal here. The portions are generous, and the prices remain very reasonable, making it an excellent choice for both casual meals and family gatherings. Pro tip—bring cash for an extra 10% off your bill! This place continues to prove why it’s a cornerstone of the local dining scene and a go-to spot for authentic Cantonese comfort food.
Hot Spicy Spicy Chinese Restaurant
Hot Spicy Spicy is a restaurant I dream about at night and daydream about during the day. The food is utterly sublime. Despite the fact that I live nowhere near the restaurant, I go as often as I possibly can. This is one of the absolute best meals available in Toronto of any cuisine. The current rating (as of March 2025) is criminal, and it would be an absolute shame if someone missed trying the food here because they were mislead. I’ve visited a dozen times (most recently tonight) and usually order the food for pickup and take it home. That said, the restaurant is newly renovated and comfortable on the inside. The service is exceptional, and there’s a feeling of being really welcomed when you visit. They also sell their chili crisp to take home, and it’s really great. The star of the show - and a contender for what could be served at my last meal - is the “famous spicy sausage” (lap cheong), an absurdly addictive traditional sausage that hits every possible right note. I could eat this every day for the rest of my life. Every dish I’ve enjoyed has been hot, fresh, and extremely flavourful. The stir fried green beans and hot and sour shredded potato are both exemplary examples of how to cook these dishes. The signature “popcorn chicken” is tongue numbing in the best possible way. The cumin lamb is deliciously cumin-forward. Even the Shanghai noodles, a simple and commonplace dish, bursts with flavour. I also have to shout out the signature pork buns, which are fresh and stuffed beautifully with juicy pork. I love Hot Spicy Spicy dearly. I hope they continue to cook these incredible dishes for years to come.
Came to have dinner here with my friends and catch up. We got seated right away even though we had a big group and they got us water right after. We ordered a bunch of food family style and it was delicious we couldn’t help ourselves. The food was flavourful and for those who can handle it I would definitely recommend their spicier dishes. They steamed buns were definitely one of my favourites. This location is an amazing place to take your family and friends and I look forward to coming again!
Chinese Halal Restaurant
This restaurant, as the name suggests, serves Chinese Halal food. I went there recently and enjoyed their cuisine. Of course, being Halal, there is no pork on the menu, but they do have lamb, lots of delicious lamb! Our evening started with delicious Lamb Skewers and Garlic Beef. Delicious start. Next up, was Handmade Noodles with Lamb, a dish with Beef Dumplings and Lamb Dumplings, Barbecue Taiwan Cabbage, and Pan-Fried Bread. Finally, our last dish was BBQ Lamb Ribs. This was very tasty and meaty - worth the wait. This was a good finish to a good meal! Check out Chinese Halal Restaurant at Leslie and Finch, for tasty Chinese food!
One of the best ambiance restaurant with a poor service, extreamly unprofessional service, when I entered the restaurant I was impressed, but disappointed with the food and service, I don't care if the food is expensive or cheaper, all I want is good taste and best service, orderd a chicken corn soup which comes in only one size he said and shrimps and a chicken dish, only the chicken dish was delicious, soup was a average like any other restaurant, price and the quantity dosent match, they are over priced with the quantity they serve, I will agree with the price, if the taste is mind blowing, but it's just a ordinary taste, so I will never go back here to get the worst service and pay this price, the interior is amazing and beautiful mashalllah, but they have the worst service ever . Waisted time and money, the shrimps we order was a total scam looks so big and large but it's the shelll with the head and tail, when you remove it you will see. The staff don't even care to come check the table if we need anything else and did not even care to clear the table. And when I asked them can I take few pictures of the restaurant they dint allow me that was also rude. Never going back here..
Pine House Cafe - Leslie Location
Came here for lunch trying to take advantage of the HST holiday and it didn't disappoint. There was no jacking up prices with prices remaining as before. They have all day breakfast for $12.99 and lunch special for $14.99. Portion size is generous and all lunch combos come with a drink. It looks to be a hot spot for the lunch crowd as the premise is filled the entire visit and there were constant stream of incoming customers and takeouts. We ordered 3 sets of meals for 3 adults and ended up taking away one of them. The Portuguese Chicken rice has the rice fried before baking giving it a good texture. The egg and ham sandwich is of thick bread and egg, easily completing a hearty meal. And the staff didn't mind food sharing and brought extra bowls. Overall a good experience and will come for another visit
Pine House Cafe appears to have become a neighborhood staple in the few months I've noticed it. Situated in the convenient location right beside Sunny Supermarket, it's a great option on the weekend right before or after grocery shopping. The restaurant opens at 11AM and will normally have a line-up a few minutes beforehand. Once it opens, they seat you strategically so the people near the door are people first in line, and they take your order starting from that side. If you arrive before 11:10 or so, I'd say you have a high chance of getting into the first seating. Our group of three ordered three different lunch combos. The price I noted for everything was between $12 - $18. These combos come with a drink (+$1 for a cold beverage) and soup of the day. When coupled with the generous portion of the entree, this is an extremely good deal in my opinion. You could even share two entrees amongst three people, depending on what you order. I saw many older couples sharing one order of Hainanese chicken. Pictured is the Hainanese Chicken, Black Pepper Beef, and Portuguese Chicken on Rice. As you can see, the portions are big! The taste was also great and what you would typically expect of a HK cafe. The service is very fast, if hurried at times.
