China Chef
Put in an order for general TSO’s chicken with steamed rice online. It said pick up was at 4:05. I got there at four and my order was ready-awesome.I drove the six minutes home, And immediately tore into the eggroll. It was only kind of warm, but it tasted good. My general TSO’s chicken with steamed rice looks incredible but my first bite was cold. Not lukewarm, not room temperature, cold. The rice had a little warmth to it. I checked the reviews on this place before I went. It was a mixed bag, but I’ll tell you my experience as a first timer was no good.
The China Chef Experience (Takeout Edition). It is never my intent to bash a place of business. However, I know COVID has changed the restaurant industry, and many smaller local restaurants have been affected. I frequented China Chef Pre-COVID and was in the area and decided to check them out. Upon entering, I saw the owners had taken safety precautions as the restaurant had plastic blocking off the dine-in area. I saw nothing wrong with this, but it appeared the restaurant is now using that space as a storage/junk area, and it was visible upon entering. I ordered their shrimp and broccoli. I remembered that was my favorite when I used to dine here. Once ready to eat, I noticed that the shrimp were smaller than before and not deveined. Likewise, the eggroll was smaller than before as well. The flavor was still there but on a smaller scale. I could tell the owners still have passion for their food when eating. Great taste, but visually the business needs significant updates. Instead of plastic, a wall would make this place more visually appealing. I eat shrimp and broccoli, but I like my shrimp deveined. Moreover, when a restaurant starts to make cutbacks, I worry about the other things they are doing to save. I am unsure if I would return, but I hope China Chef returns to the once-thriving establishment I knew them to be.
