Golden Bayou
I have been a long-time customer since they opened. We always go there for lunch and to go. They keep quality and consistency until present for services, food quality, and atmosphere. We always took family members and relatives to this restaurant. One time, my husband wanted to reorder the Cahun for lunch, and they gave a discount, too. That's nice. Also, one time, a long time ago, I forgot cash, and they allowed me to go out of the restaurant without paying to get cash for about 30 minutes. That's really nice heart. Highly recommended.
Excellent fish dry pot. Right amount of chilies and Szechuan peppercorns, fish was tender, breading was pleasantly crunchy + chewy, very good vegetables. Batter was just a little too salty. Prices are fine, seem to be a few dollars higher than similar places in town. Fish dry pot was $20 before tax, and I think it's more like $18 at other places. Lunch special has American-style dishes like lo mein and stuff. That's fine, but would be better IMO if they also did a couple Szechuan or Cantonese dishes for lunch special as well. Clean, lots of space, staff were friendly. To be honest I always thought this place was a Cajun fast-food restaurant chain. Then I stopped in randomly and was like "wait they do Szechuan food here??" lol
Spicy Asian
Food was delicious! One of the best Chinese food places we’ve had in Ithaca. It might not be a fancy place, but clean and spacious restaurant to enjoy your meal. Reasonably priced food.
This is a great place to get Sichuan food in Ithaca. I really enjoyed all their dishes. Their lamb was great. Their whole fish was very tender. I loved the egg drop soup. We had some dumplings in spicy sauce which was yummy. And the potato’s in their stir-fried shredded potato dish was crispy and savory. The service was good. We went during a weekend evening in the summer and the place was not busy. The service was prompt. Note: Not all of the staff speaks Mandarin. The first waitress we did spoke Mandarin but we had another person who served our table who did not. The inside of the restaurant is like a typical Chinese restaurant. There is also plenty of tables and seating inside. There is a parking lot outside the restaurant so we parked there. We did not have trouble finding parking (albeit we didn’t go when it was very busy).
Ling Ling
My family and I have been enjoying the Garlic Tofu here for as long as I can remember, and it’s always been a favorite. I highly recommend it, as I don’t know any other place in Ithaca that prepares Chinese tofu as well. I also enjoy their Hot and Sour Soup (note that it's not vegetarian). While I haven’t explored the full menu, the dishes I regularly order are always delicious and well-prepared. I’m not sure why some people expect a gourmet experience here—what you see is what you get. It’s the perfect spot for take-out, and the staff is friendly and low-key.
Honestly this was gross. I don’t know if we got a bad order or what, but I would never return. General Tso’s chicken had zero spice and had barely any sauce, rice and broccoli were both cold and dry. Crab Rangoons were fishy to the point that even though sushi is my favorite food, they were inedible. The beef Lo Mein was greasy, cold, and flavorless. The absolute only positive thing I have to say is the egg rolls were decent. Complete waste of $40.
Jade Garden
Called in to place my order and they had it ready within 15 minutes. I got the pork fried rice, dumplings, and scallion pancake along with a strawberry tea with lychee jellies. The place is a nice little hole in the wall. They were so kind on the phone and as I picked up my food and it tastes great!!
Simple hole in the wall spot. Seems to be run by a husband and wife. Let’s start by saying in Ithaca’s food desert of actually decent food, Jade Garden is that hidden oasis. Good prices, amazing portion slices and delicious food. I love spice and they were super helpful in adjusting the heat level of my meal to the point that it just slapped. PS- food was read in under 5 mins which was a sight to see (got the house special fried rice - extra spicy - container was packed full to the brim). Best Chinese food in a 5 square mile radius - EASY.
Asian Chili Spot
Food is decent. Service is good but didn’t appreciate that they automatically added tip (we have less than six people) and didn’t tell us.
Looking forward to trying more dishes! Love the size of the chicken pieces in the pepper chili chicken dish— perfect amount of meat with a little crunch, and the cilantro is tasty. I think more flavor from added garlic would add depth and be great; it’s sized and cooked well but the flavor is just chili and cilantro. 辣子鸡很好吃但需要加大蒜来增加味道。 Overall impressed by their menu.
Xi'an Street Food
The hand-pulled biangbiang noodles were really good, so chewy and nice flavor from the sauce! I think I accidentally got pork instead of beef but the meat was so good, way more tender and melt-in-your-mouth than I’d expect. Dumplings were good too. The atmosphere inside feels like a restaurant in a cute C-drama.
SANITATION PROBLEM - We visited the place first time and ordered Braised Beef Noodle, Spicy Pepper Chicken Noodle and Spicy Cumin Lamb Noodles in Lamb Soup. We ate Beef and Chicken Noodles at the restaurant and both noodles were good. We took the Lamb Noodle Soup to home as a take out. When transfer the Lamb Noodle Soup to a glass container for microwaving, we noticed a hair. We thought it was only one but when we looked at carefully, there were lots of clipped hairs. I am using clipped hairs because they were not like regular hairs. It looks like someone cut hair with a hair clipper while preparing the dish. I tried to take the pictures of hairs inside the container and separated hairs on the paper towel. Something like this never happened before. It was disgusting. We will probably not see the hairs if we use their single use black take out containers but they can be seen on the white surfaces. DON’T RECOMMENDED.
Spring Buffet
Is it the best tasting buffet there ever was? No (though their egg tarts are, admittedly, to die for, as is their coffee ice cream), but you really don't have many better options for the price. Lunch is a great deal, no waiting in line or waiting for food, which means you can actually sit down and eat and be done before your 30 minutes are done. Staff is friendly and kind. Recommend!
Had the most memorable night of my life here for under $15… leaving with a full stomach and a fuller heart #under15 #donteatthenigiri #memorable
Tianjin Foods
I went here quite often a few years ago when I lived in the commons area. Food was good at that time. Service was not good - the lady owner was very rude, but I didn’t care too much. In my last visit, I found prices had increased so much! The beef noodles soup was less than $10. Now it’s almost $15. What’s really cannot acceptable is they charged $1 more for takeout FOR A LID!!! Even for dine in, they still use disposable container. If you say takeout, you will be charged $1 more and you will get a plastic bag and a lid. Isn’t this horrible, ridiculous and disgusting? Will never go again.
Very authentic Chinese buns and dumplings. It’s hard to make great pork buns but Goubuli pork buns here are awesome. I’m so glad we have this place in Ithaca, otherwise I might have to buy frozen buns. My 5 favorites: - Goubuli pork buns - Chicken wonton soup - Beef sandwich - Seafood dumplings - Chive and pork pancake 伊萨卡超好吃的包子铺,推荐狗不理包子和云吞! The owner was not like an easy-going person for my first visit, but after a few more visits I actually found she’s a nice person and made tasty food. Sometimes the place gets busy on weekends but it’s okay on weekdays. Definitely recommend it if you are a big fan of pork buns and dumplings.
Ling Ling Garden
This place is now solely a takeout place. The beef w peppers/onion dish was really bland, even though we requested it to be spicy. Also the dish we got was mostly water chestnuts with some peppers and very little beef. The hot and sour soup here is loaded with some kind of pepper the flavor -- you can't taste the sour part at all. This place is convenient if you are staying next door at the Best Western.
This is a takeout place, but the food quality is pretty good, at least the food I had: tofu with garlic sauce and white rice. The rice, from Thailand, was very good, much better than you normally might get from a Chinese takeout.
De Tasty Hot Pot Restaurant
First off, I will say for authenticity, the food is pretty good. I ordered the fish dry hot pot, my wife ordered a spicy beef stew. Both dishes were excellent. The food was also served fast, which was also nice. But that was about the only good thing. Food is not enough to make me want to come back. The service was non-existent. Aside from bringing us the menus and the food, they did literally nothing. When we asked for the drink menu, they pointed to a cooler near us, and said help yourself. Mind you, there are two ladies doing the ordering and bringing the food, a chef cooking ..and several grown men sitting around talking to each other or playing on their phones. Not cleaning, not organizing, not bringing the food or asking about the service. That is why the place had zero customers aside from us. When we were there, only two take out orders, and no dine-in customers. Also, rice should be a given. I should not have to order it separately or find someone and ask for it. Also, when my wife says not to make very spicy, that doesn't mean "throw as much pepper as you can on top, and dose it with a whole bottle of chili sauce". The worst service I have ever had in a restaurant, worldwide. If they can fix that, and add more lights, and add more traditional Chinese decor, they can make money. The food is excellent, just need to touch up the environment and actually have people working there. Very lazy people working there, and you can thank the four guys sitting and playing on their phones who should be working. Get off your butts and clean the place and add new lights. If you want to force a 15% tip on the bill, at least provide an actual service.
Wow I was really impressed by this place! All the dishes we ordered were delicious. I especially love the lamb dish and the pork belly dish was also good. The string beans were also really flavorful. We went during a weekday for an early dinner in the summer so there wasn’t a lot of people and the service was prompt and the food came out fast. The restaurant itself is at the bottom of some stairs so you might miss it if you’re not looking for it. The inside has lots of seating and it feels like your typical Chinese restaurant with a somewhat of a dark interior.
