East Gate Chinese and Japanese Restaurant
They are always so welcoming and quick, this is our go to ACYE sushi place š and itās BYOB too! I love that they also have training chopsticks for kids!
9/22/24 Sunday dinner... Sushi and more!! Still great, still BYO. 4/16/23 back for more... Still great (everything). FYI there is a great wine & beer store just down the road (West) for your BYO.... An easy 5 minute walk. 11/26/22 been back several times but I've slacked off with my updates here. Well, things are still really good. Sushi is fresh and service still really good. I used a thermos to bring in my hot sakƩ (worked great). Summer 2019: We've been coming here for a few years. BYO is such a bonus :) nice staff and usually quick service. The food has been fresh and we love the all you can eat option. (Really, that is the main reason to come here). At 3p on a Sunday... Everyone else has gone and we are the only ones here ..... So nice and quiet. Wish they had yellowtail on the sashimi portion of the AYCE menu... But they have it on the sushi part... The BBQ squid is nice as is the shumai. My GF loves it here. Ok, it's an hour later and we are still here... Eating... We are up to 5 tiger rolls!! Plus all kinds of other stuff... Lol .. so good. We are getting ice cream too- of course traffic is bad going back into NYC... We may eat more ;)
Paper Lantern(čē¼č½© Montclair ååŗļ¼
āāāāā I had an amazing experience at the grand opening of Paper Lantern in Montclair! From the moment I walked in, the ambiance was warm and inviting (NY vibe) with beautiful dĆ©cor that perfectly complemented the restaurant's modern yet cozy vibe. The food was absolutely phenomenalāeach dish was crafted with such care and bold flavors that left a lasting impression. Juicy pan fried buns and outstanding shrimp dumplings. Peppercorn fish was perfection the flavor did not overpower the dish! Service was top-notch as well. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, making great recommendations. You can tell that a lot of passion and effort went into creating this restaurant, and it truly shows. Montclair just gained an incredible new dining spot, and I canāt wait to come back! Highly recommend checking out Paper Lantern for an unforgettable meal.
I went to Paper Lantern yesterday, a charming Chinese spot that lulled me into a false sense of security with its elegant decor and smiling staff. I ordered the chicken with chiliāwith fresh chilies, mind youāand what followed was less of a dinner and more of a spiritual awakening. One bite in, I knew I had made a mistake. Two bites in, I began drafting a letter to my intestines, apologizing for everything I was about to put them through. By the third bite, I was ready to light incense and pray to every known deity across all faiths, past and present, for mercy before my inevitable showdown next morning. I drank a whole bottle of sparkling water like it was a crisp mountain streamāstill, flat, blessed. I didnāt sip. I gulped. I chugged. I made eye contact with the server like, āSir, am I going to survive this?ā But oh, it was good. Like dangerously good. The scallion pancakes? Crispy, chewy little miracles. The cucumber salad? Cool, refreshing, and frankly, the only thing keeping my taste buds from submitting a formal HR complaint. The Singapore noodles? Glorious. Lightly spiced, stir-fried perfection with just enough curry to whisper, āSee? Not all spice wants to kill you.ā So yes, Paper Lantern is delicious. Just know this: if you order the chicken with chili, prepare for a flavor experience so intense you might briefly leave your body. 10/10 would eat againāwith a fire extinguisher on standby.
New Peking Restaurant Cerritos
Waited 20 minutes before they took our order, 24 minutes before we got our food, got moved from table to table during the first 30 minutes. They shouldn't have sat us if they were going to move us, we could have tried korean bbq nearby instead. Wouldn't have mind waiting if the food was worth waiting for. Ordered eggrolls 1/5 (5 spices used on the cabbage, jack in the box egg rolls taste better than those), sizzling rice soup 3/5, too much pepper was used, but it was the best thing there other than the cans of coke), braised green beans 1/5 - sour from their heavy use of garlic from a jar), salt and pepper calamari 1/5 - super hard and dry, no salt on them, shrimp fried rice 1/5- tasteless, no wok flavor, mushy shrimps (sat in defrosted water). Disappointing experience to say the least.
This place has been around for a while. They have a lunch special which is a very good portion for one and you can easily take home half. I just needed to try the Mongolian beef since I've been craving it. Lunch special comes with an egg flower or hot&sour soup, a fried dumpling and rice/fried rice with your entree. Also to check out the prices since the menu had not been updated in the posts I've seen. So here it is. If you want try this place out, food is not bad. Let's say comfort food when you need it. Prices are updated on the pictures I'm posting. Enjoy š
Matt's Red Rooster Grill
So glad we found this diamond in the rough during our first visit to Flemington. We started by sharing the fantadtic grilled romaine. Then my wife really enjoyed the wagyu flatiron steak special, and I the cherry cola short ribs. And something told me that we should save room for dessert - and so glad we did! The main floor seating (there's also second floor seating) was small and comfortable, with the kitchen in view toward the back. And all of the staff were very friendly and professional, especially our server David. It's BYOB, so don't forget your favorite bottle to bring along. Definitely recommend this place!
Wow, talk about great food and service! Make a reservation, the food here is amazing. The cream of mushroom soup is definitely award winning as they say. The chicken with spinach and parmesan was awesome, so was the duck! Dessert was incredible. Service was awesome. You can bring your own liquor. We brought champagne and they put it on ice for us. Also opened our wine for us, etc. Great experience. Try the oysters and filet!
Aozora
I rarely eat Japanese food, but I went because my girlfriend frequents this restaurant. I am glad I did go! There were plenty of choices for me as a vegan. And everyone else enjoyed the sushi. Everything was brought to the table beautifully prepared and tasty! Our server was attentive to our needs and patiently explained everything to me as I was new to the experience. I will definitely be going back to try other dishes!
This place was amazing! Got seated right away and felt very cared for. My water glass was always full which I really appreciated. The atmosphere of the place was wonderful! Decorated very nicely for the holidays. And of course the food was incredible! Got a couple of sushi rolls, the salmon spring rolls, edamame and mochi ice cream for dessert. Loved it all, would highly recommend this place!
Healthy Food Asian Cuisine
Food is delicious and fresh. We order takeout regularly and Iāve been meaning to review for a while. A great spot to have nearby. Service is impeccable.
First time. Generally disappointed. 1. Pricing: for what we got there are a lot of extras. Picked it up because there's a delivery charge. Which goes to the driver so be sure to subtract from the tip. $3 extra for shrimp fried rice instead of fried rice. 2. Quality: clean food but needs to be better prepared. Pad thai was not pad thai just a spicier Asian noodle with very little chicken. Wings had cracked bones. Either leave the wing as whole or cut them up without cracking bones. While I appreciate, what seemed like non frozen, for the price I expected better quality food.
Spring Garden
Lunch specials are great value. Hot and sour soup needs more spice and vinegar. Lot of ingredients. Eggrolls are fresh and crispy. Sesame chicken is not battered and the taste is good. Chicken and broccoli is chicken and broccoli. Eggplant with shrimp you get 6 large shrimps, a lot of fresh eggplant, and some veggies. Good taste. Pork fried rice was disappointing. The roast pork is good but the overall fried rice lacks flavor.
I ordered general Tso chicken lunch combo with a side of pork dumplings. The dumplings are TO DIE FOR. They fried them so perfectly. The dough was well proportioned with the filling and crisp if you eat them fresh. The pork fried rice was ok. Could use a little more seasoning but it wasnāt bad with some soy sauce. It balanced out the chicken and dumplings. The chicken had that standard thick sauce used in other Chinese chicken dishes. General Tso is made with chili flakes and is supposed to be spicy with a hint of sweet crispy chicken. But that sauce drowned out the other flavors of the chili that gives this dish its identity. The dumplings are definitely my favorite thing here. I would come again. The food took about 15-20 min to make which is quiet a while. But they did make everything fresh and hot. Which tasted a lot better that way. Spent $18 for everything. $9 (and change) for lunch special and $8 for dumplings.
Hong Kong Chinese Kitchen
Happened to come across this place by surprise and at the last minute. Was looking for something light - a la a moo shu pork. I wasn't sure what to expect - but have to say it was really, really good. It is the first time I remember eating the whole portion. It was a great balance of vegetables, protein and seasoning. The only down side, using egg roll skin as the pancake is a bit of a cop out. A true Mandarin pancake would have earned it 5 stars.
The best Chinese style takeout in town! Weāve been customers for over a decade.
Verona Chinese Kitchen
New favorite! The woman at the counter was so sweet, and the food is delicious and fresh! Highly recommend the steamed dumplings, scallion pancakes, and chicken noodle soup :)
The food is not horrible but the service is. I work a block away from restaurant so i order there quite often. This is today's rib. Extra fatty and extra burnt. My co-worker's fried shrimp was fried extra hard. Extremely dry. The delivery driver demands tips. We have complained in the past. I guess this is their way of getting us back. PICK UP so u can check your food. They're a hit or miss! Good luck!
New Jin Lin
I canāt lie I travel all the way from Union county because this is the best Chinese American cuisine Iāve ever had
Ate here twice and got the General Tso's chicken both times, comes with pork fried rice and egg roll. This place is so consistent and delicious. Price is very reasonable. Will be eating here often.
Golden River Restaurant
My family has been getting food from Golden River since around 2010 and we've never had a negative experience. The food is always prepared well and tastes good. The delivery driver makes sure the order is delivered with care.
This restaurant most closely resembles the chinese food you get in nyc, it's good. The food is tastes great. They have a lunch special. It's affordable compared to other "Chinese" restaurants in town. They also deliver.
Family Garden
Rice had no flavor and tasted raw, also the egg roll had no pork in it and did not taste good, I wouldnāt reccomend to eat from this place.
I'll start with the pros: the tea was okay, the food was warm, and I was able to pay (and tip) with card over the phone. Cons: The fries and chicken were stale, the egg roll didn't taste like real food (tasted like imitation meat), and the delivery took over an hour.
