New jade lake Asian cuisine
On Tuesday, January 6th, 2024 we stood at the door of New Jade Lake waiting for it to open. It was cold and rainy outside. We'd had a doctor's appointment at offices across the street and we thought we'd go in have, some lunch and wait for Access Link to arrive. I'm a caregiver for my ex-husband. He's paralyzed and in a wheelchair. We are two elderly African American retirees. We seated ourselves at a booth and waited to order. What happened next honestly surprised us. First, the owner's wife asked us to move (not an easy feat for a wheelchair bound person). When I asked her why she gestured toward tables in the center of the restaurant and kind of angrily nodded in the direction she wanted us to go. She didn't speak a lot of English, but her intentions were very clear. Of course we complied. We were shocked when: 1. She seated a young woman who was eating alone at the same booth she had moved us from. 2. We were concerned when she suggested we get our order in "to go containers" 3. We finally had an epiphany when she brought a bag over and unpacked it on our table aggressively dropping each item down for our inspection. I asked for tea and she sucked her teeth. It was clear our business was only wanted in a "take out" capacity. When I surveyed the room it appeared that the two Trinidadian women (who came in with us), and the Mexican man who had come in after us were all in "the to go class". The woman at the booth we were moved from overheard us "getting it", but the other patrons were sitting happily in their booths being served. Everyone else in the restaurant was cool. It was the owners who had an issue. The husband keep pacing out of the kitchen staring at us and the wife was just hostile. I didn't take pics (we're Boomers), but I have my credit card receipt and proof of our doctor's visit. What a sad, sad world we are living in.
Jade Lake is my go to place for good Chinese food in Millburn. It is a little away from downtown but easily accessible with ample parking in the back. I often come here with my family and also with a large group of friends. We all love the food, service and atmosphere here. One of my favorites is their veggie tofu egg noodle soup. Other dishes are good too.
Ms. Lin Chinese Cuisine
Just moved to the area and found this place on Door Dash. Tried it out and fell in love with the food. Been ordering a few more times after that. Yesterday me and my lady went in person and the food, service and atmosphere did not disappoint. Love this place. Highly recommend it.
My husband and I recently moved to NJ and were looking for good Chinese food. You can't go wrong with Ms. Lin! Our food was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Prices are very reasonable and we brought our own wine. We will definitely be back!
