This is a szechuan restaurant so a lot of things are spicy! Casual environment. The chairs were not comfortable, they are hard metal slippery chairs. This place is popular as there really isn’t any other authentic place around like this. It took a half hour for our party of 4 to be seated on a Friday night around 7:30. They have a small waiting area in the front, you put your phone number down and they text and call you so you can leave and come back as well. We ordered about 7 dishes to share between us 4, some were apps and some were big share plates. I really liked the cheese balls that looked like pumpkins. They were sweet, warm and gooey. The green beans are also delicious. Crunchy and not too spicy. The fried chicken and dough had spicy peppers piled high so I didn’t eat too much. I did like the texture of the chicken and the dough was an interesting thing to try. The blueberry fried chicken was addicting, tasted very unhealthy since deep fried and battered. The gooey sweet sauce was delicious and I liked the plum blueberries with it. The white rice on the side is a must, goes with all the dishes and the hot tea they serve is very good as well. We also ordered a tofu dish that was too spicy for me. The soup dumplings were excellent, the right amount of soup and the flavor was meaty and salty and delicious. Next time I would come back and get one of the big fish dishes in the huge platter I saw people sharing. It looked really good. I would come back! I left do full! And it didn’t break the bank.

We ordered three dishes, toasted fish, Sautéed Water Spinach W. Fermented Bean Curs Sauce and Stri-fried Pig Kidney. The taste is really close to traditional Chinese food, which is truly surprising. We strongly recommend the kidney, mouthwatering

South Lions Dim Sum & Tea - Jersey City

⭐☆☆☆☆ First and last time visiting South Lions Dim Sum & Tea. Bathroom was used for food storage! We came here with my family on Easter Sunday for a late lunch since we were craving dim sum, but this was easily one of the worst dining experiences we’ve had. We ordered a variety of dishes — Shanghai pork soup dumplings, sesame ball with lotus filling, shrimp and pork siomai, fried rice shrimp, jumbo shrimp siomai, Bangkok noodles with sautéed shrimp, and curry diced chicken. While the portions were big and good for sharing, the taste was very disappointing. The food was bland, not satisfying, and felt rushed. The sesame ball barely had any filling and lacked sesame seeds. Both pork and shrimp siomai were huge in size but flavorless. The curry diced chicken wasn’t savory or flavorful at all, and the Bangkok noodles were just not delicious. Service was equally terrible. We constantly had to call the servers for water, napkins, sauce, and to follow up on missing items. Despite dining in, they served everything in takeout boxes with plastic utensils and chopsticks — not what you expect when sitting down at a restaurant. The worst part was the bathroom — absolutely filthy and completely unacceptable. It was being used as a storage room with not just cleaning supplies, but food items and even baby chairs crammed inside. There were pantry items literally sitting inside the restroom, next to the dirty toilet where guests are supposed to use the bathroom. It was disgusting, unsanitary, and completely gross when you think about the food being prepared and served here. This was our first and definitely our last visit. Prices were not cheap either, which makes it even worse considering the dirty environment, bad food, and poor service. The city seriously needs to inspect this restaurant for sanitation, safety, hygiene, and food handling violations. If you are craving legit Chinese food, never, ever attempt to go here. There are far better and cleaner places elsewhere. I forgot to take photos of the bathroom situation but you have to check it for yourself if you have doubts. Of course, I don’t bring my phone inside the bathroom. PS: Don’t spend your dollar here coz it’s not worth it! Go somewhere else. Not to mention it is located in Downtown. It doesn’t match the city area.

Small little Hong Kong style dim sum place that serves delicious home-style food. Highly recommend! Edit: we loved it so much, we ended up going back on new years day. Added more photos!

This WAS my go to for yummy cheap take out. But sadly the last few times have been almost inedible. Lo mien so mushy and clumped together, could barely eat it, once I was able to separate enough to get a bite almost chocked. Tasted like was cooked in dirty burnt turkey grease. The broccoli in sauce was so overcooked, sauce was so oily, spicy but zero flavor. The spring rolls are still awesome, but how hard are those (premade and fried) to make. And skip the dip sauce is some sort of barely flavored brown dishwater (I use my own at home). Very sad. Waste of money these days is hard. Need a new GO TO. Help.

Ordered delivery, very happy with the portions and quality of food. Ordered the boneless bbq ribs combo along with fried wontons. Needed a little more sauce on the ribs but tasted very good and was hot. Had speedy service as well! I'll be ordering more from them for sure!

The environment is clean and hygienic, the space is spacious, there’s a wide variety of dishes, and the flavors are great. The service is friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended!👍🏼 And It’s best to dine in, as the food doesn’t taste as good when it’s taken to-go and eaten later at home.

The food here is exceptional! The cauliflower is perfectly seasoned and full of flavor, while the soup is absolutely amazing—rich, comforting, and packed with delicious depth. Highly recommend!

The place was really good!! I really like their food and my favorite Chinese restaurant area ever!! Me and my friends enjoy eating here! Even though inflation sucks, the price here is reasonable!

It's absolutely good. The price is very reasonable. The food here is very well cooked, IMO better than most American-Chinese food places you can find in Jersey. The are very friendly to customers and they always try to satisfy all your demands. Compare to the burrito place next door, I will 100% prefer Great Wall because they have better food quality and attitude.

Wow my new favorite local Chinese restaurant in Jersey City! They recently opened up a month ago and I finally had a chance to try. The food and portion size was great value. Everything tasted very authentic and was made with fresh ingredients. The highlight of my dinner was the Peking Duck! We also requested if they could make us a traditional steamed fish with scallions…and wow did they actually do it! It wasn’t on the menu and they had the ingredients to make this for us. This is another level of hospitality you don’t find often at many restaurants. My friends and I left full and satisfied. I’m looking forward to bringing my family here soon!

loved this spot! First time going and will definitely come back. Vibes were great! Decor was so authentic and cozy, staff was super friendly, and food was incredible. Tried 8+ dishes and all were very tasty. My favorite stand outs were lobster mapo tofu, noodles, peking duck, fried squirrel fish with sweet and sour sauce, stuffed salted egg meatballs, and green peppercorn and rosemary steak. Super affordable menu and huge portions!!! Highly recommend

Always passed by this place... what a mistake. I was amazed by the szechuan food!!! The spicy spliced fish // the fish cabbage soup // bokchoy is so flavorful. It's a hole in the wall restaurant, of course service isn't going to be michelin star grade. but the food is authentic flavorful and relatively cheap for the area, and the serving size is impressive. will keep going back, will bring friends.

I had the worst experience in this restaurant. Food was bad and the service was awful. Even they didn't provided proper cutlery for dining, they gave paper cups and plastic spoons and didn't refill the water. But surely they asked for tip in such a rude way.

Had a lovely dinner here! The shrimp dumplings soft and tender in a nice sauce. If you like some kick I think you have to ask for extra spice as it was more mild in flavor. The fish we had for dinner was awesome with an incredible presentation making it easy to eat. Meal was: Crispy Whole fish with pine nuts and garlic sauce. If you have a large group they do have a large round table with a sweet Lazy Susan.

Have come here multiple times with my friends. This is a family-run business and all people there are lovely. Food there is good, especially considering its wallet-friendly pricing. I would rate Chengdu 1 as my everyday go-to place for Chinese food in Jersey City (not saying it’s best in food quality, but instead best overall - price+quality).

We ordered fried chicken expecting something like the Taiwanese chicken as shown by the pictures on the menu in the store. However what we got was some soggy chicken nuggets that taste worse than McDonald’s nuggets. To top it all off, it cost 9 dollars! I would not even feed this to my dog.

Terrible experience. The other roasted meat place and lunch buffet place are great! I ordered a pancake with extra sausage. The front lady got the order messed up and added another extra item. So I came up before she made the food hoping to get my order straight. Her attitude is very rude and instead of answering my question. She started to ask me “isn’t this what u ordered?”, “can’t u see what’s on the menu?”, “is this the first time u come to this place?”. I got super irritated because no customer should ever be treated like this. I came up wishing to get my order straight, not to start a argument with u. And even if u added the extra item, with proper explanation, for me personally, I would understand and leave it that way. But the lady’s attitude is simply intolerable. I have no appetite for the food whatsoever after the confrontation. So I left without any food or refund. Hopefully she can treat ppl with a sense of respect in the future and my experience won’t happen to any other people.

I used to skip here because of the low reviews. Friend told me that this is a recently new opened business, but the owner didn’t replace the google review base. What’s important is that the rice noodles are pretty authentic for Hunan. I dropped by today and tried a few. The taste is pretty good, had a full tummy filled with happiness, and staffs are friendly. Please note that the authentic fish soup have small bones in it, that’s just how it is like to be authentic. Order something else if you are like my husband who cannot bear with processing those. I like the soup and finished all of it. The waiting time is not short compared to other restaurants. But I prefer this as I feel it’s more safe with less technologies nor chemicals. I saw that the staffs were eating the same food, so I definitely would come back again. If you are in a bit rush, you may want to call to place order early or order something quick such as the cold dishes. The current menu is pretty good, and price is decent compared to other restaurants. Minor suggestion to the manager that please have some membership options alike

So delicious food here! I really like the spicy sour potato. The noddles are also good. We tried silky melon and egg with pork noodle soup, and peppercorn beef noddle. I'd like to try more flavors next time.
