Cheng's Garden
You don't come for atmosphere. You come for take out. And it's likely the best Chinese you've ever had. Not too sweet, not too salty. Ultra fresh. Authentic.
I can be a very picky eater when it comes to Chinese food. I love general tso, but few places make it right. The sauce is flavorful with a very mild kick to it. A kick, I have never tasted before but was always told it's supposed to be there if the sauce was made right. The chicken was cooked just the way I like it. Soft on the inside with a bit of a crisp on the outside.
Dragon 88
Dragon 88 is my go-to spot in the Upper East Side, and I can't recommend it enough! Their fried chicken and fried rice combo is hands down my favorite. The flavors are amazing, especially when paired with their garlic sauce – a must-try! On top of that, the prices are super affordable, which is a huge plus, especially for the quality of food you get. I work nearby, so I find myself stopping by regularly. If you live or work in the area and are looking for a great, budget-friendly Chinese food spot, this place should be at the top of your list!
I really enjoyed last night's food. The wontons in the soup were thick, which I liked and the broth seemed substantial -- not just got water! I also really like the sweet and sour chicken. Suggestion- add more crunchy soup noodles to the bag!
MáLà Project
Got a few different dishes at Mala Project and only the dry-pot style create-your-own bowl was a hit. The mapo tofu was weirdly overly sweet instead of spicy without strong peppercorns, and the garlic eggplant was alright (good garlic infusion into the sauce if you’re a fan of garlic). The dry pot bowl had a good combination of cumin stir fry flavor and spice and would definitely recommend that one.
This is my second visit to this place. I ordered the dry pot to share with my friend. For toppings, I personally recommend the sliced potatoes, as they add a nice crunch. I also loved the wood ear mushrooms, enoki mushrooms, shrimp balls, and eye of round beef. As for noodles, I don't recommend the glass noodles because they tend to become dry and stick together. Instead, consider the potato noodles or other options for a better experience. The portions are quite large and filling. As for side dishes, I recommend both the garlic eggplant and pork ear, but be aware that they are quite spicy—even spicier than the dry pot. The only downside is that everything is a bit pricey; even the spicy level costs an additional $5. The sauce was more oily than spicy, which is one aspect I didn't particularly like about this place. For dessert, I noticed many people recommending the glass herbal jelly, but I personally wouldn't suggest it. While the jelly and red beans were fine, the taro balls and boba were hard and not chewy at all, which I didn't appreciate. Overall, it was a bit too sweet for my taste. However, I do recommend their sweet potato mochi; it was surprisingly good! I managed to eat two of them even after the dry pot. I love anything mochi, so I highly recommend that.
Baji Baji
I used to love this place. I don’t know what happened. Ordered sesame chicken with pork fried rice requested white meat. My sesame chicken is not chewable. it seems like fried batter with sauce on it, impossible to chew… I was so hungry I’m very disappointed.
Baji Baji is a fantastic spot for Chinese cuisine, offering an inviting atmosphere and a menu full of bold, flavorful dishes. affordable prices ranging from $10 to $20, it’s a great choice for both casual diners and food enthusiasts. The interior is stylish yet cozy, featuring vibrant murals, warm lighting, and a modern touch that enhances the dining experience. Their food presentation is equally impressive fresh, colorful, and beautifully plated. Whether you’re in the mood for crispy, saucy, or spicy, Baji Baji delivers on all fronts. Service is friendly and efficient, making takeout and delivery just as enjoyable as dining in. If you’re looking for a satisfying meal that combines authentic flavors with a contemporary twist, Baji Baji is a must-visit!
Hay Hay Roasted nyc
They have the best lunch deal in the city. For $17 you get an appetizer, an entree and a drink. I'd recommend the hay hay deluxe trio - the cha siu (roasted pork) was delicious and the portions were generous. For appetizers, I was happy they offered the fried mini buns and they were very authentic. The fried dumplings were good too and the cucumber dish was refreshing if you want something lighter. Hay hay roasted is a great addition to east village.
Came here for dinner with my bestie and the portions were perfect for solo dining or to eat with your friends/family. The service was 10/10 - our server was so friendly and nice. Food came out in a timely matter. We loved everything we got. Our favorite were the fried mini milk buns (must get!!!) the wonton soup was so tasty and meaty. we loved the two selections where we chose scallion chicken & roast duck, and then other plate for the brine cuttlefish and crispy pork. The cold appetizers were so good especially the pig trotters (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!) We tried the sesame and coconut puddings which were so good and not too sweet but perfect to end your meal. It’s even better when you mix them together! Definitely recommend coming here!!
Super Taste
Food is amazing! The staff is super friendly. Highly recommended the dumplings. Best Chinese in UES
Delicious food with the perfect serving size. The owner/staff are lovely and greet you as soon as you come in. Honestly some of the best dumplings I’ve had in a while. Definitely recommend checking this place out if you’re in the neighborhood or working nearby.
Cafe Evergreen
We ordered calamari which has no dipping sauce included, pan fried veg dumplings which is so greasy, egg roll also greasy after 10mins of our appetizer came,a group of people around 40 just arrived all together and as soon as the people seated, the waiter served all their appetizers and it was all same as what we have ordered We were wondering why when we gave our order the food came in less than 5minutes,but the moment when we saw same appetizers that was been served on the big group then we knew why it was quick Too probably the food was been sitting for few minutes then we ordered same item they might have reheated those food that ended up serving oily and greasy So we just finished our food and asked for the bill and left. Will might gave them a chance to visit it again but will make sure that there will be no huge group
The lunch specials here are more expensive than in other Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood. The prices are higher ($35.95 for 2 orders, tax included) but do not come with soup, soda or egg roll offered by others. The food is ok. They did accommodate my request to have a vegetable dish made into a lunch portion because the list for lunch specials is limited.
Baohub
The first time I came to Baohub, I was amazed by the food here! The signature buns are soft on the outside and juicy on the inside. You can feel the full fragrance with one bite. Especially their beef buns, the meat is tender and the seasoning is just right, it's really satisfying! In addition to the buns, the other snacks in the store are also very good. The red oil wonton is spicy and addictive, and paired with a cup of hot soy milk, it is simply a perfect breakfast! The service is also very thoughtful, the environment is clean and tidy, it is a small shop that you want to check in at any time!
Curry chicken dumpling is amazing!! The duck gua bao is pretty good too. Highly recommend. Definitely coming back! 🙏🙏
Mee Noodle Shop & Grill
I’m a true regular to this place! 80% of the time, I’m exhausted from work and pick up food from mee noodles. 20% of the time, I dine in. It never disappoints!! An authentic local joint (that also have Americanized food if you are into it). But you know a place is authentic when they have white pepper on the table. You can’t have southern Chinese food without some good white pepper! My go to dish is always soup noodle with roasted duck and I get it with the wide rice noodles. So yummy! And it has vegetables in it for some health value. I speak Chinese with the workers here and they are all so lovely. I love my people 🥰. Yummy food and kind souls. And did I mention… very affordable prices? I hope that gentrification will never hit this place.
I’ve been coming here for years, usually for lunch when working in the area. Nice selection of lunch specials, great food and excellent service. They hit the mark with the Cantonese style noodle soups, my favorites are the Noodle with Roast Duck Soup and the Noodle & Cantonese Wonton. But my favorite is in their Vegetable section and is NOT vegetarian (neither am I, obviously). I know many of you meat eaters out there don’t even look at the Vegetable section of a Chinese restaurant menu, so don’t miss ordering the Dry Sautéed String Bean with Meat. The string beans are dry wok’d with salty and spicy ground pork. And it’s the perfect amount of spiciness, wow! Really, everything is delicious, you can’t go wrong. Highest recommendation.
New Beijing Restaurant
Great service and amazing food. I have been coming here for years with my family.
Me and my family have been coming here for years their food is absolutely amazing and I have never been disappointed by them. I highly recommend coming here best Chinese food I have ever had. One of my favorite things to order is the crab rangoon it is delicious and highly recommended.
Panda Express
Panda Express, there is comfort in knowing what to expect with decent food! We love the consistent good experience of this location, esp during the lunch hour - they are constantly refilling with hot and freshly made food! This is a clean location with seating, the staff are friendly, and a nice rotation of new dishes to try.
Came on 27 May around 5:15pm. My first time ever at a panda express and the staff were really friendly and the food really good! From the ordering process to the payment and to the experience of eating authentic Chinese food, it was a 5 star experience overall. Highly recommend!
Dragon Family
Solid Chinese takeout, fast delivery and great prices. The spring rolls were full of fresh veggies (a lot of placed they taste mushy like they were frozen). The egg foo young and lo mien were both good. I'll definitely be ordering from them again.
Living in this neighborhood, I was so excited when Dragon Family opened. But sadly after ordering from here 8 times, only 3 were good and I’m done trying to give Dragon Family another try… I ordered sweet & sour chicken twice (1 was horrible), General Tso Chicken (2 times were horrible, 1 was good), Chicken Fried Rice ordered 3 times (2 horrible, 1 good). Not to mention how greasy and oily the Pork Egg Rolls were (tasted like old, stale oil) Sadly, I won’t be back again after my awful dinner last night that left me constantly running to my bathroom because of diarrhea…
