18 Dough
We happened to see them open today and stopped in. It was the soft open. While they did not have any soup dumplings, they had almost everything else. The braised beef noodle soup was SO good. The broth was rich and flavorful and the meat was perfectly tender. The server was super friendly and very kind. 10/10 will certainly return for the grand opening later this week.
18 Dough is a new culinary delight in the Southwest part of the valley. In its Grand Opening period, my husband and I dined here earlier in the week and a second time on Mother’s Day with the whole family. What does that tell you? Yes, this place is good and serves some of the best wontons and soup dumplings I’ve ever had! It must be the magic in that dough - it’s so delicate and melts in your mouth. The receptionist greeted us with a smile and remembered us from our last visit - a nice touch. With this being a special occasion, we didn’t hold back on our food selection. For starters, we ordered 2 servings of Red Oil Wontons (MUST TRY THIS, it's our favorite), Pork Soup Dumplings, Cheese Soup Dumplings and Stuffed Meat Pie. The starters were served with three dipping sauces - red chili crisp, house sauce and sweet/sour sauce. While the sauces are a nice option, the food is so flavorful and seasoned to perfection, it can stand on its own. For the main course, we ordered Sweet n Sour Ribs, Signature Fried Rice and Mongolian Beef. While waiting for the entrees we were surprised with Crispy Veggie Spring Rolls, Pork Potstickers and Chocolate Dessert Bao - compliments from the kitchen. The Dessert Bao has a banana and nutella like filling that when consumed together it draws a complete foodgasm! Just when we thought the meal couldn’t get any better, the ribs arrived. They were so tender, cooked to perfection and the flavor was exceptional. The Signature Fried Rice was packed with generous portions of ham, shrimp, chicken and veggies. We had the Mongolian Beef on our last visit, so we knew what to expect and it did not disappoint. Our servers were so kind, attentive, and explained that the “18” in the name of the restaurant means good fortune. We left feeling completely satisfied, with good fortune dough in our bellies and we’ll be sure to return for some more. The next time you find yourself near Rainbow & Sunset, do yourself a favor and check this place out. You’ll thank me later.
