China A Go Go (S Highlands)
First time at a China A Go Go. This one seems good enough! I went twice in two days. =) It was super-clean inside. As soon as someone left, a worker would clean-up their table. Also, some of the "workers" seemed to be kids in the family. I'm used to that in Asian restaurants, and I think it's good. Mom and pop FTW. I ordered first mapo tofu, which in this case is not totally veggie, but the fine print mentions pork. I could've asked them to leave it out. Plenty of white rice was included. The next day, I ordered a lunch special. Way more affordable than the strip, and I feel like my money helps a family (mostly). I also met another customer who said he's known the owners for 20 years and goes to this China A Go Go even though he lives across town. Good sign! They have a soda machine; a drink is $2 w/refills. Last, but not least, this is right next door to a great dessert place, Pineapple Park. That place has really great, affordable desserts, including dole whip soft serve (and in other flavors!), and Thrifty ice cream. Mmmm...
The food was possibly the worst Chinese-style cuisine I have had, and I have even eaten at some sketchy places in China. The food had bland flavors. Got the General Tso's chicken which is a pretty standard dish for Chinese-American places, and it was not good. If I wasn't so hungry, I would have thrown it all away. I also got the Mongolian beef which was not as bad, but not very good either. At least it tasted similar to Mongolian Beef. The egg drop soup was decent, and the potstickers were okay. But Panda Express is a much better option in this area, and most people would scoff at that being the standard. Need a better Chinese option in Southern Highlands area.
