Osaka Steakhouse & Sushi Bar
Had a great experience at Osaka Steakhouse and Sushi Bar! A strong 4/5 stars—some excellent dishes, a few average ones, and overall a place I’d happily revisit. Food 4/5 We started with the garlic edamame, which felt like an actual dish rather than just a bowl of soybeans. It had great flavor without being overwhelming, and a good portion for two. The house salad, however, was underwhelming—less of that zesty ginger punch you hope for and more of a letdown thanks to a giant chunk of lettuce core taking up half the bowl. The chicken fried rice was a highlight—flavorful, moist (in the best way), and the chicken was incredibly tender. Adding yum yum sauce made it even better. Sushi was a mix of hits and misses: -The Salmon Lovers Roll was beautifully presented, with a flavorful sauce that made soy sauce unnecessary. -The Philadelphia Roll was well-executed with a generous amount of cream cheese—nothing surprising, but definitely satisfying. -The Yellowtail Jalapeño Roll didn’t quite land. The jalapeño was crisp but lacked spice, tasting more like green bell pepper. Like the jalapeño, the wasabi on the side was unusually mild. -The Green Peace Roll had a lot of ingredients but not a lot of standout flavor. It was also cut so thin that chopsticks were useless—we gave up and used a fork, which felt like a sushi faux pas. -The Vegetable Roll was fine but needed the extra eel sauce we ordered to bring it to life. Service 4/5 Service overall was excellent! Our server, Haley, was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything arrived at the right temperature. The hostess did seem like she was in a rush getting to and from the podium, bumping into people on the way, but was friendly enough. Atmosphere 5/5 The restaurant had a great vibe—good music at just the right volume and an easy-to-navigate menu with clear descriptions (which isn’t always a given at sushi places). Overall, Osaka delivered an enjoyable meal with a few minor hiccups, and we'd definitely return!
I recently visited Osaka with my family, and unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience. My daughter found a hair in her food, so we politely informed the waitress and requested for the dish to be remade. Instead of offering a simple resolution, the waitress returned with a male staff member who was incredibly rude. He insisted that the hair was ours and that we had placed it in the food ourselves, which was completely absurd. None of us had loose hair—we all have braids, so it was clear the hair didn’t come from us. What frustrated me the most was that we weren’t looking for anything more than for the dish to be remade. There was no need for defensiveness or attitude. We just wanted to enjoy our meal without any issues. Unfortunately, the way the situation was handled completely soured the experience, and I’m not sure I’d return after this encounter. I hope the restaurant takes customer service more seriously in the future, as it could have been an easy fix with a little professionalism.
