Food was pretty good. I had the Hunan Beef and it was pretty good. I do think the beef could’ve been cooked a little better, but it was still good. This place is also really convenient places as it is right along the route 18 bus and a 5 minute walk from the 46. It’s also convenient for biking as well as it is right on the Nicollet Avenue bike lanes and close to the bike lanes on 46th
So good!!! We are from Iowa and have been in Minnesota for about 3 months now, and I was craving Chinese. I'm so thankful I found this gem. My husband had the orange chicken, I had beef lo main without vegetables, and we shared the fried rice and wonton. It cost $36, which is decent for the amount of DELICIOUS food we received. We'll get several meals out of this easy. Service was very fast, and everyone was pleasant. Even the fortune cookies were yummy 😋. Thank you!!!
Bamboo Express
A gem in the skyway! It's American Chinese food done very well for a reasonable price. I like that most of the dishes include stir-fried veggies mixed in, and they are big cuts of fresh vegetables and retain some crispness. No slimy frozen veg! The stir-fried vegetables are my favorite, and includes tofu. They load you up with nice big portions, too. And the egg rolls are the best in the skyway!
House made to order fried rice is super good! Too bad the hours are inconsistent. I called twice to confirm what time they closed and was informed they close at 3. They closed at 2:30 today and when I called again after standing in front of the door for a few minutes I was hung up on by one of the employees. I asked for his name, because he’s not the nice ladies in the front, and he began to yell at me. I have never experienced such horrible customer service from this location. I currently don’t live or work anywhere near the area, the commute I made to get that fried rice today and paid for parking simply to get to the location and they were closed had me LEVITATING. That is so crazy and un professional and sadly it’ll be quite some time before me and the gang return: UPDATE YOUR HOURS!!

I had a great lunch! I ordered the pineapple duck, and it was nice. The sweet and sour sauce was purely sweet, but a few drops of soy sauce made the flavor more complete. I don't know how the fried duck stayed crunchy under all the sauce, but it made for an excellent experience. The serving was generous, so I took home half of my meal. When I sat down, I was given a glass of water and a pot of oolong tea, which made the experience feel cozy and special. My server was friendly and fast. I also enjoyed getting a fortune cookie with my bill. It may be cheesy, but I enjoy fortune cookies and seeing if they fit the day's occasion. It's definitely worth trying another dish someday! The decoration was homely, with various pretty paintings on the wall.
Came here for lunch with the fam. Classic Chinese restaurant with simple good cooking. We ordered saute morning glory with garlic/ginger, sesame chicken, pork with veggies & garlic sauce and mafo tofu. The portions were huggeee, enough to feed 5-7 people. Had to call a friend to help us eat. The mafo tofu was slightly sweet for my taste. They gave plenty of ground pork; the most out of all the Chinese restaurants within a 20 miles radius. Taste is a preference thing and I would’ve like it more if they had put some sichuan pepper in this dish. I had to add their chili oil to make it my liking and reduce the sweetness. Sesame chicken: flavor was on point. All Chinese restaurants do this: some of the chicken pieces had no chicken in them. Just fried dough coated with sauce (can be deceiving to make it look like a lot of food on the plate). Morning Glory: I grew up on this dish, no complaint. Saute pork with veggies garlic sauce: best dish of the meal. We took left over home and it tasted even better 7 hours later.
Lucky Dragon Restaurant
Service is super quick and friendly. Wifi available upon request. Food is just so bland, from dry chicken and mediocre rice to not enough of a good sauce for flavor and only ok egg rolls. Prices are physically updated and higher on their menus, so may want to compare with in-person and online for value. Overall, really a bummer since it's a nice and quiet spot with awesome employees.
THE SPICY CHICKEN WINGS ARE WORTH THE VISIT! I ordered to-go. I drove 5 minutes away and the food was still almost too hot to eat! It was amazing how fast they served me. Sesame chicken was crunchy which I prefer but it is hard to come by. It did lack some flavor though.
Lao Sze Chuan
We first visited the restaurant for dinner last Sunday night. The dishes came out super fast and tasted great! We ordered three dishes, and the spice level and ingredients were all perfect. We were really happy with the service and satisfied with our meal. One dish that stood out to me was the deep-fried eggplant tossed in salted egg yolk (金沙茄子). I loved the taste—the exterior was slightly crunchy, while the inside was chewy, perfectly coated in flavorful salted egg yolk. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to order the same dish again for takeout five days later. Unfortunately, the second experience was completely different, and I was extremely disappointed. As you can see in my last two photos, the eggplant in the takeout container was slimy, overly oily, and barely had any salted egg yolk, which should have been the main flavor of the dish. It wasn’t deep-fried or crispy at all—just soggy and drenched in oil. I paid the same price for this dish ($18.95), but the second one was nowhere near worth it. In fact, it even gave me a stomachache! There was a huge difference in quality between the two experiences. Hopefully, if I decide to order it again, I’ll get a better-prepared version—if I dare to try!
The food is authentic and delicious, the quality of the fish is decent, they are fresh. This restaurant offers authentic and flavorful dishes, with the standout being the crispy fried chicken seasoned perfectly with spices and garnished with fresh scallions. The spicy fish hotpot is another highlight, with tender fish immersed in a rich, fiery broth. The clean and modern dining area creates a welcoming ambiance, perfect for small gatherings or casual meals. Service is efficient and friendly, adding to the overall positive experience. Whether you’re looking for bold flavors or a cozy spot to enjoy Sichuan cuisine, this place is worth a visit. Highly recommended for spice lovers!
Sidewalk Kitchen
Found this gem of a restaurant that serves up authentic Chinese dishes in the heart of Stadium Village. Everything I've ordered, I've loved, so you really can't go wrong. Dishes are all around 20-ish dollars, so if you are a broke student, it might not be best for you. Service is always great! I highly recommend Sidewalk Kitchen.
I like this place, even though it’s not very spacious. During the one hour I was there, I noticed a lot of takeout orders. Parking isn’t very convenient—you’ll need to find street parking nearby, which is metered unless you park farther away. The menu is extensive! They offer noodles, hotpot, congee, fried rice, chow fun, milk tea, and more. The flavors aren’t very spicy, as the dishes are Cantonese-style rather than Sichuan-style. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! The waiter was welcoming and friendly. I had a great experience overall. I feel like this is a wonderful spot to bring family or close friends for a tasty meal. However, it’s not ideal for a formal dining occasion.
Chinese Express
Nice for 5 dollars on Christmas (Update) Was impressed when the cashier actually gave me back the extra 20 dollar note when two of them stuck together on me. Yet another reason that I world have to say this place is currently top American chinese takeout! Fast service and the food is SO GOOD!
My go to for Chinese take out. Drive thru available & cheap delivery. Ive ordered for up to 8 people and it always comes with the quickness and hot on arrival. Friendly service, along with the best and cheapest cream cheese wontons will keep me coming back!!
Star Dragon
I highly recommend this place to eat. This is the best chinese food I have had in a long time. I did the delivery and that was super fast. I ask how long it would be and they told me 25min. I was ok with that. Not more than 15 min later my phone is ringing and he was at my place to drop off my food. Normally I don't give tips on the first go around, but since it was super fast and the food was still hot I gave $2 tip. I would eat here again for sure. It was well worth the money spent for this amazing food.
I have been coming to Star Dragon for years and have never had a bad experience. The food is always amazing and at a great price. The lunch specials are the best bang for your buck. There are also great vegetarian options! I love Star Dragon and always make it a point to get food here whenever I'm in town.
Fresh Wok
Had the chicken in garlic sauce. Nice spice to it and good garlic flavor. paired with the fried dumplings which were decent (thick dough), and the egg roll was good.
I’ve been going here for about a year. I liked their food and had even recommended them to other people. Today I got my favorite, Mongolian Beef, but there was hardly any meat in the order. The beef pieces were tiny slivers or even crumbles of meat. I called to tell them, and they offered me $5 off my next visit. I told them I would rather bring it back to show them and get my money back. When I got there the lady was very rude and loudly complained and yelled in front of everyone in the restaurant. She told me that’s the way they make it and everyone else likes it. I told her I have eaten there many times and it is never like this. I also pointed to the picture on the wall that they have of the dish and said that the pieces of meat usually look like the picture. She then said “oh come on, everyone knows the picture is not the same”. I told her that one of the reasons why I kept coming back was because their food did look like the picture. She just kept throwing her arms up in the air making a scene. I think the last time I had to return food must have been 15 years ago? When I was young I even worked in restaurants so I understand how difficult it can be. This woman could have handled this situation differently. She could have made the meal over, or she could have just given me my money back and apologized. Instead she yelled and tried to humiliate me, refusing to listen except to argue about everything I said. I gave their food a “2” because in the past it had been good. In the end, I found the same dish at another restaurant for $2 more with large pieces of beef, traditional ingredients for the dish and very friendly customer service.
Bill's Garden Chinese Gourmet
Flew in from CO and just experience the best Chinese food I’ve ever had in the US so far. We were in the neighborhood and caught a delicious smell of Chinese food, so we wandered around until we found this place and man, the food was as yummy as it smelled! We had cheese wontons, egg flower soup, and chicken with broccoli. The wontons had a thin delicate crispy fry on them and were filled with cream cheese, the soup had a rich broth - one of the best we’ve tried, and the sauce on the chicken with broccoli was so flavorful and the broccoli was still slightly crispy. Not sure who this chef is, but this will be a must go-to every time we’re in Minneapolis. Nice work guys! Delicious food, friendly staff, clean restaurant, at a great price. Go check them out!
Great spot for that Chinese food from your childhood small town strip mall. The atmosphere is stark at best and be prepared for some off-putting odors. Grab your food to-go if this might bother you. That being said, the food here makes it all worth while. We ordered the egg foo young and the Szechuan tofu. Service was slow, but the staff here are kind and apologetic -great people. The Szechuan sauce was the perfect balance of salty umami with a touch of sweet, and heat that creeps up on you. The veg really was cooked to perfection. Cooked through, but still a nice crunch remaining. This was my first egg foo young experience and it was great. That brown gravy is special stuff. The best part of the experience after the food, is getting the check. This place is impossibly affordable. Two people can easily split one entree and still have leftovers. If you're looking for that old school strip mall hidden gem, this place will tick that box.
Legendary Spice - Minneapolis (Wahu Apartments)
This place is truly exceptional, and I really enjoyed my stay. The design is stunning, creating a wonderful atmosphere that feels almost cinematic. It’s impressive how they’ve captured the essence of Asia right here, allowing guests to relax and savor their meals without needing to travel. I did find parking to be a bit challenging, but aside from that, everything from the service to the food was outstanding. I would definitely rate this experience five stars and would love to see even more recognition for it!
I was initially hesitant to try legendary spice again after I had it during the covid era (it wasn’t very good during that time), but the food has improved drastically. This is probably one of the best Chinese restaurants around the UMN campus. The dishes we got were more tailored to the spicy palette, but it was as SO GOOD. I highly recommend the green beans for a veggie dish, it was super tender and favorable. I also recommend the three chili chicken for a more sweet and spicy dish. I personally didn’t like the double cooked pork that (my friends did though!), the meat was not as tender as I expected, but the flavor was there. Overall I really enjoyed the dishes here and recommend trying this restaurant! Also while I was there, I saw that they have lunch specials (entree + boba) for a decent price, will definitely come back and try it sometime!
Tea House Chinese Restaurant
Food and service are outstanding! We were greeted very kindly when we arrived and our server was very attentive despite being surprisingly busy for 2:30pm. The beef rolls were fresh and light!! Soup dumplings were good but the skin was a little thicker for my preference and they went cold quickly. The braised beef with tofu skin was melt in your mouth and the texture of the tofu went well with the meal. Our favorite dish was the fried pork ribs. Soooo juicy and had the perfect amount of crisp! I was obsessed with the sauce it came with. We love how close we live and this will now be our go to spot! Also free parking lot which is always a win in Minneapolis.
Really nice service. A little loud and busy place. Tried a few appetizers- fries were interesting, but nothing amazing. Lamb noodles were quite disappointing, we sent it back and the server took it off the bill which is great, thanm you!. The fried buns with pork were difficult to eat, and not really flavorful. The soup dumplings were quite nice, but mostly because of the chili, garlic onion sauce. Dragon roll bun with pork was interesting, but once again not much flavor. Overall is it a decent place to stop by, maybe we just got wrong dishes, but I would rather stop by Legendary Spice (not the hotpot) next door.
