China Bowl
You would think fulfulling a craving for dine-in Chinese food on an early Sunday afternoon would be easy. Thanks to two places closer to my home being confirmed closed when their Google listing had them as open, China Bowl was the day's winner, and I'm glad it was. The egg rools were hot and crispy; the chicken rice soup was fresh and flavorful; and the pepper steak, General Tso's chicken, vegetables, and fried rice were on point - very tasty, but not overpowering with salt or other flavors. There were two women working their tails off in the front of the house dealing with an increasing number of dine-in customers and carry-out orders. (Bonus points to the little boy running around and passing out fortune cookies and other items. He was cute and generated a few laughs with his infectious smile.) China Bowl is clean and updated, but not overdone with decorations. The only reason I'm giving four stars for atmosphere is because one table was filled with empty carry-out boxes, napkins, etc., and similar items were found on tables in another area of the dining room. Maybe that's necessary because of the size of the room, but, in my opinion, those items should be hidden from diners. I'll definitely be back - and soon!
I visited for the first time & ordered take out from right around the corner for 2 different dishes plus some appetizers. Sesame chicken & sweet & sour shrimp, pretty basic staples. They both were soggy & rubbery with very little flavor. The fried rice was just....soy rice? No real flavor or vegetable in it. The portions were huge & looked good, I will say that. It's a lot of food. Just not good food. The crab rangoons & egg rolls were surprisingly fresh, though. Not greasy, good crisp, & the veggies in the egg roll had a great crunch rather than the mush most have. The pineapple & peppers in the sweet & sour sauce was tasty & unique & how I managed to eat what I did of the dishes. The woman taking my order was very sweet & helpful, maybe dining in would be a different experience. OH OH, I also got hot sour soup & that was actually amazing.
Hong Kong Inn
I've been eating at HKI for over 20 years and it's my favorite Chinese downriver. I've moved 8 miles away from it and will drive the extra distance as it's that good. I call it Chinese comfort food. The owners are awesome as well. Just a shame they don't have dine-in anymore.
Food was terrible the chicken was tough and chewie the egg rolls were not great like they used old greese to fry them. The prices on the website don't match up to the new menu.
