Liyin Rice Roll Brookline 荔银肠粉
so delicious !! i got combo B with their signature 3 treasure rice roll, their signature porridge, and their hot soy milk. the soy milk was not too sweet and very comforting, and came out first. next was the rice roll, which was yummy although a little greasy and soaked up a lot of soy sauce, so I would advise against it for people trying to avoid sodium. their rice rolls are not the traditional individual rice rolls, but come out almost like an omelette. it was tasty! the porridge in my opinion was the best — it was light, savory, and had a good amount of meat in it. for the price, it was a great deal! would definitely go again.
The rice rolls here are soooo good! Loaded with toppings, silky, and addicting! Good for small groups of 3/4 people or less, and our waitress was very friendly. Can't wait to come back for more!
Lan Feast 宴蘭
Some things here… Firstly when I walked in I noticed the restaurant was cold. Heating was very subliminal. People were eating with their jackets and beanies on. Secondly, I believe the servers are still in training but we were delivered wrong items on two occasions. The Lanzhou noodles were decent, but I feel like it doesn’t taste anything special compared to Lanzhou noodles I’ve had in the past. Compared within Boston, I believe this restaurants’ broth is more flat and lacks richness. It’s overall very light in flavor. Noodles have the same mouthfeel. Will get extra wide noodles next time. The beef scallion pancakes were not the best; pancake was tough and cold when delivered, perhaps been sitting out for a long time. Definitely potential to be a great appetizer, but maybe today was just too busy.
Came back here for a second try with a reservation for four on a Wednesday evening. We didn't have to wait at all for our table, which had a little "reserved" plaque. There are some things I noticed this time around that could use improvement: 1. We were seated at the tables in the front, which are awkwardly arranged so that you might end up back to back with someone at the table over. This is what happened to me, with the person's chair bumping into mine and our jackets right on top of each other's. 2. The decor here is beautiful, but there's nothing to absorb sound. The restaurant was pretty busy, but it was hard to hear the person right next to me. Sounds of dishes and tables being cleaned up echoed way too loudly. I think there was music playing, but it was hard to tell over the cacophony of noises. The food itself is good. I got the Lan Zhou Beef Noodles, and we got green beans and lamb skewers to share. The noodles were super filling and came out before the appetizers. Overall, the food is good but the actual dining experience still needs fine tuning.
LaMei Hot Pot
La Mei Hot Pot is an absolute gem for anyone who loves authentic and flavorful hot pot experiences. From the moment you walk in, the inviting aroma and warm atmosphere set the tone for an unforgettable meal. The ingredients are incredibly fresh, and the variety of options ensures there’s something for everyone. The broth options are a standout—rich, aromatic, and full of depth. We’ve been coming here almost twice a month for six months last year and have started doing the same this year as well. We’ve brought numerous friends along, and everyone has loved it! Our go-to order is the double broth with veggies, lamb, and tofu, and we always opt for the hand-pulled noodles—they are absolutely delicious and a must-try. The service is impeccable, with staff who are friendly, attentive, and eager to make recommendations. They make sure everything runs smoothly, from explaining the menu to ensuring your table has everything you need. The attention to detail truly enhances the dining experience. The quality of the food and the overall experience make the prices more than reasonable. Whether you’re a hot pot aficionado or trying it for the first time, La Mei Hot Pot is a must-visit. We’ll definitely continue coming back and recommending it to all our friends!
Amazing 10/10 recommend. $28/person AYCE for lunch Mon-Sun 11:30-4:30pm. The soup bases and options are delicious and I was FULL by the end. Excellent service and great sauce. This is gonna be my new go-to hot pot, can’t beat the price and location and quality.
Cubist Circle
The food was great there. A stew or soup is always good in such icy season. The staff were also very nice. We went there pretty early before the noon on the weekend when there were only a few people dining in. And the atmosphere was relaxing and made people feel cozy. I would recommend this place if you love Chinese food.
It was a bit greasy and pricey, in my opinion. The overall quality is still good. I liked the pig kidney and sliced beef with numbing peppers
Northeast Eating Club 东北吃饭公司
I ordered 酸菜炒粉, 锅包肉, 烤牛肉 and 烤实蛋. It is absolutely surprising and amazing that the fact they are able to cook 实蛋 and 毛蛋 which are northeastern foods that are extremely rare seen outside of China. All the dishes were authentic and in a reasonable price, and there is a MBTA station (Brookline Village) nearby. Only recommendation is that please add 杀猪菜. to menu.It is core of the Northeastern Chinese eating.
it’s the best northeastern food I’ve ever eaten in the us! It’s a real home home food!! I’m glad I got the vinegar and garlic for the pork bone! Then it became totally home favor! I equally love all of them!
Kaojiu Restaurant
Beautiful restaurant with attentive and friendly staff and great food. Decor and menu details are thoughtfully done, with paintings of the dunhuang caves as the backdrop. Menus are scrolls. Their whisky cocktail has a stone Lion ice sculpture in it! Very thoughtful atmosphere. We ordered the lamb backbone hot pot and small was the right size for 3 along with grilled sides. Drinks are creatively named, but generally weak, which probably makes sense for the clientele. Staff were all quite friendly and were able to clearly explain the differences in dishes and make recommendations. We also stayed quite a while at closing and they were kind and good at communicating closing. For the experimental diners out there: they have a skewer called lamb treasure that is crunchy and well seasoned and surprisingly so good. You might be able to guess what part it is if you’re familiar with Chinese euphemisms. Fun to order and try as a group! They also have classics like aorta, chicken cartilage, all of which is beautifully seasoned and fun to eat! Will be back when in the area!
Not bad. Had lamb ribs and lamb skewers and beef skewers. Not spicy despite asking for spicier. Chives are a bit salty. Saw another table got the lamb rib hot pot, looks very good, probably will back for that.
Dragon Star Chinese Restaurant
The food is less than average. Portion size is small for the price. They also charged extra 1$ for just making it spicy. I paid the money and realized their way of making spicy is adding very small chili oil in the box. I don’t recommend this place
I'm sorry to say but it wasn't that good, the food me and my mom ordered here. We ordered a pupu platter for 2 on new years day and although I can say the delivery came super fast, only some of the food was palatable. The fried shrimp had way more batter than shrimp, the chicken fingers were tough, dry, and greasy, and the vegetable lo-mein had only onions in it and no other vegetables. Pretty disappointing. The wings were good and the crab ragoon was ok, as well as the beef teriyaki stick being enjoyable but overall I don't suggest ordering from here. Your better off finding a better spot. Sorry to say 🤷
Mandarin Gourmet
Had one of the luncheon specials, and it was delicious. The hot and sour soup, chicken wings, and General Tsao’s Chicken were all excellent. My wife had the beef with broccoli, and was very happy with her dish too. Yummy meal at a good price — we’ll definitely be coming back.
We love the whole experience at Mandarin Gourmet! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is comfortable, clean, and classy, and the service is terrific! The appetizers are our favorites around—especially the crab rangoon, scallion pancakes, and chicken wings! Portions are generous, and drinks are great, too! This is our go-to Chinese restaurant!
Baby Cafe - Brookline
Food is interesting as it has some modern takes on Hong Kong cafe staples, but it is surprisingly bland... I wonder who the target audience is. The best things were ironically the simplest things: the milk tea, the green beans, and the fried fish. On the other hand, the Hainan chicken noodle soup was lackluster, not really sure what they were going for with the soup broth, and the Portuguese chicken baked rice had no flavor except salt and maybe a touch of coconut. Don't get me wrong, it's all edible, but it's just not going to blow your mind.
We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the HK food here. We ordered the pork chop rice and it was delicious. The beef tendon soup had delicious noodles and succulent beef, even if it had a bit too much chewy tendon for our taste.
Golden Temple & The E Room Bar
Tried some Boston Chinese food to compare it to Texas Chinese food. Really like the atmosphere. You will need your flashlight to read menu. Got the Sesame Chicken, egg rolls, and wonton soup. Unfortunately, the soup and egg rolls came out pretty much at the same time as the main course, so we had to eat them quickly so the chicken didn't get cold. Egg rolls tasted good and were stuffed much more than Texas egg rolls. Chicken and soup were tasty. Thought it was a bit pricey, but I can't compare it to other area Chinese restaurants.
This is the worst meal I have ever received in my life from an establishment. Not only is the food disgusting the price is outrageous. Take it from me do not order here. The chicken was just in a puddle of oranges for some reason. The noodles look like they just boiled them and put them on the plate. I couldn’t even finish the meal and honestly was super disappointed especially from a place that looked like it should be good. If I could give less stars I would. This place is disgusting.
Shi shang ju食尚居
A taste of Chinatown in Coolidge Corner I saw this place recently opened and stopped by with some friends for a weeknight dinner. We were welcomed and seated immediately. Everything exceeded our expectations; both the food and service were great! The menu is extensive and filled with regional sichuan dishes as well as more popular Chinese options. We ordered the fish filet with chopped chili, beer braised duck, mapo tofu, and wonton soup. Everything was flavorful and came out quickly. It's tough to pick, but our favorite was the fish, which was served on a sizzling platter and hugely sized. Everything was very reasonably priced. Our waitress and host were both friendly and helpful; we never had to ask for more water or napkins, etc. I recommend ordering things family style as intended due to the portion sizes and variety of options. If you're looking for a comfortable, authentic Chinese restaurant in Brookline, this is the place. I can't think of another like it in the neighborhood; it really felt like we were transported to Chinatown. Highly recommend - we'll be returning customers!
Delicious food and lovely atmosphere! The menu has a great variety of dishes. The staff goes above and beyond to be considerate and kind. Give this place a try — you won’t regret it. Definitely looking to come back to try other items on the menu!
New Kun Garden
First time here and thought it was very good. Food was fresh and service was friendly. It’s a nice small town restaurant.
What a hidden gem!!! Just moved to the area and I’ve been looking for my “Chinese spot” FOUND IT!! everything was absolutely delicious! Best chicken fingers I’ve had since moving to north central mass. Friendly service and seems very COVID safe.
