Liyin Rice Roll Brookline 荔银肠粉
so delicious !! i got combo B with their signature 3 treasure rice roll, their signature porridge, and their hot soy milk. the soy milk was not too sweet and very comforting, and came out first. next was the rice roll, which was yummy although a little greasy and soaked up a lot of soy sauce, so I would advise against it for people trying to avoid sodium. their rice rolls are not the traditional individual rice rolls, but come out almost like an omelette. it was tasty! the porridge in my opinion was the best — it was light, savory, and had a good amount of meat in it. for the price, it was a great deal! would definitely go again.
The rice rolls here are soooo good! Loaded with toppings, silky, and addicting! Good for small groups of 3/4 people or less, and our waitress was very friendly. Can't wait to come back for more!
My Happy Hunan Kitchen
As someone from Hunan, this is the most authentic Hunan cuisine I've ever had in the U.S.! It's incredibly delicious! One bite and it feels like being back in my hometown! It definitely deserves a five-star review!
Ordered the chicken feet, Mao’s Braised Pork Belly, and lo mein with lapcheong. Everything came out fast and was delicious. Service was attentive and friendly. While the food is on the pricey side, it is worth it if you want to treat yourself/the family. Bathrooms were surprisingly clean. Music was a little bit too loud for me.
Baby Cafe - Brookline
Food is interesting as it has some modern takes on Hong Kong cafe staples, but it is surprisingly bland... I wonder who the target audience is. The best things were ironically the simplest things: the milk tea, the green beans, and the fried fish. On the other hand, the Hainan chicken noodle soup was lackluster, not really sure what they were going for with the soup broth, and the Portuguese chicken baked rice had no flavor except salt and maybe a touch of coconut. Don't get me wrong, it's all edible, but it's just not going to blow your mind.
We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the HK food here. We ordered the pork chop rice and it was delicious. The beef tendon soup had delicious noodles and succulent beef, even if it had a bit too much chewy tendon for our taste.
Golden Temple & The E Room Bar
Tried some Boston Chinese food to compare it to Texas Chinese food. Really like the atmosphere. You will need your flashlight to read menu. Got the Sesame Chicken, egg rolls, and wonton soup. Unfortunately, the soup and egg rolls came out pretty much at the same time as the main course, so we had to eat them quickly so the chicken didn't get cold. Egg rolls tasted good and were stuffed much more than Texas egg rolls. Chicken and soup were tasty. Thought it was a bit pricey, but I can't compare it to other area Chinese restaurants.
This is the worst meal I have ever received in my life from an establishment. Not only is the food disgusting the price is outrageous. Take it from me do not order here. The chicken was just in a puddle of oranges for some reason. The noodles look like they just boiled them and put them on the plate. I couldn’t even finish the meal and honestly was super disappointed especially from a place that looked like it should be good. If I could give less stars I would. This place is disgusting.
Zoe’s Chinese Restaurant
We were on our way back to our hotel from Porter Square and decided to eat before going inside for the evening. We found Zoe’s on Google and it felt like such a gift. It’s in a mostly residential area; however we did find parking after circling. I wasn’t familiar with the area (in the dark) and I was hungry :) so there may have been easier options. The food was absolutely scrumptious, fresh tasting and abundant. The spinach was so good, I ate the leftover with my breakfast the next day. Everything we ordered was tasty. The customer care was top tier. We felt extra special. I definitely highly recommend and intend to revisit. Thanks so much.
An unexpected Chinese food haven beyond Chinatown. In search of an authentic Chinese dining experience that sidesteps the usual hustle and bustle of Boston's Chinatown, my friends and I recently took a visit to Zoe's on a Friday evening. The place was buzzing—a generally promising sign — and we were able to find a table without a wait. Despite the lively atmosphere, the service was impressively swift and attentive. The prices, slightly more affordable than those in Chinatown, were an added bonus. We shared an array of entrees, starting with the Dry Diced Chicken. Encased in a crispy exterior, the fatty bits of chicken thigh brought a level of richness that made the dish enjoyable. House Special Fried Rice was a multi-protein extravaganza that featured shrimp, chicken, and pork. It was more buttery than typical fried rice dishes but oddly satisfying. As our meal progressed, we found the Shanghai Baby Bok Choy Toy to be a bit on the salty side. However, its lightness offered a much-needed palate cleanser, setting the stage for the heartier dishes that followed. Mao’s Home Style Pork lived up to its name by providing a comforting, homely flavor that perfectly rounded out the previous courses. However, the pinnacle of our meal had to be the Tea-Smoked Duck. Though it was seemingly dry, the meat inside was incredibly tender and juicy. Each bite confirmed that this was quite possibly one of the best duck dishes I've had in Boston, or anywhere else for that matter. Overall, our dinner at Zoe’s exceeded our expectations, and we will definitely come back to try the duck again and explore other popular dishes.
Dumpling Daughter Brookline
I am sad… there used to be a location in Kendall Sq. I used to get the veggie dumplings and frozen packages all the time. On uber eats there’s this buy 1 get 1 free deal for the buns. I was excited since I haven’t gotten their stuff since 2022-2023 I am not sure what changed. It was like I went to the store and baked them or microwaved them? They were definitely not steamed or had the texture of a steamed bun. It definitely was like untoasted bread. No rise. What happened to the vegetable buns I swear they used to be green and had more than cabbage and carrots? Sad to say it was an expensive and disappointing take-out night. 9/10 would not recommend unless you’re in a bind and you can’t go to a store to buy frozen ones. Would of preferred to received them frozen, I would of been able to actually steam them. 🫣☹️ I gave 5 for atmosphere because at least I was at home. I gave an overall 1 for effort.
We got a variety of dumplings to try, everyone enjoyed the steamed and fried dumplings, especially the petites! The sauces were very tasty. The fried Brussels sprouts are where it's at, though. They were addictive and I abandoned my tofu/rice to demolish those instead. Prices weren't bad compared to anything else in the area and the service was amazing and quick. Excellent Thai Tea as well.
Hong Kong Cafe
Food was not to bad order a combination plate to eat whie doing uber and i had to go back and skilled for a plate why is does not come in a tray idk, but food was good.
Ordered food on Uber eats and the sweet and sour chicken picture looks completely different than what we got. We got some chicken fingers that with horrible breading, not edible at all. Fix yourselves, wasting time and money. Just horrible. The pictures show what I mean, sweet and sour chicken looks good on the picture but in real life it’s just sad.
