We had a great lunch! Used the kiosk to read the menu and order on our time. So much to read! Large portion sizes! We couldn't even finish our lunch. Excellent taste. Fresh and delicious!
The bibimbap is good and generously sized. They give a lot of rice in it though, I wish that there were more veggies/toppings in comparison.
Mala Parlor Hot Pot
Hands down the best hotpot in Champaign! The quality here honestly rivals some of the best hotpot places I’ve been to in Chicago, but at a better price. The environment is clean, cozy, and super welcoming. I especially love the Wagyu beef, a bit pricey, but totally worth it for the quality. Everything tastes amazing, and the value you get is unbeatable.
This new hot pot restaurant is a gem. The food is fresh and flavorful, with rich broths and a great variety of ingredients and sauces. What really stands out is the interior decor—elegant, modern, and inviting. It creates a perfect atmosphere for a relaxed meal. The staff is friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. Highly recommend!
GOLDEN WHEAT(LAO BIAO 老表)
Delicious house made noodles with a nice view of Green Street for people watching. The restaurant itself is fairly casual and sparsely decorated but clean. You order from a digital menu which consists of a range of mainly noodle dishes and rice bowls. I had the braised beef noodle soup with egg noodles and found it delicious. The noodles were perfectly chewy and springy, and paired well with the rich, flavorful broth and well spiced (although somewhat dry) meat). The portion was huge (for my appetite at least, I say others devour the same dish) and left plenty of leftovers. I do wish it came with a few more toppings to balance out the heaps of noodles.
Solid authentic Chinese fast food option. Food is fresh and cooked well. Portions are large and about what you’d expect to get for the price. Atmosphere is like a cafe and less like a restaurant. The menu on the wall is only in chinese though.
Noodles and Company
Review written 11/02/2024. Quick service for pickup orders and usually made accurately. Nice rewards program with deals and coupons. Only con of this location is limited parking as it is on campus.
Had an amazing mouth watering rigatoni rose veggie pasta . Loved the subtle flavour . A must try .
Thai Fusion
Are at the mini version underneath the Illini Union. I had the chicken & shrimp teriyaki with fried rice and it was made perfectly. Everything was made fresh and you can see them cooking your food incase you’re worried. Props to the chef today he did an amazing job.
I was taken by surprise with the quality and taste of the food here at Thai Fusion. The lady taking our order was very pleasant and helpful in explaining the dishes. The food portions were great and the heat levels were just right. I have had a lot of good Thai food but this was top level. Curry Fried Rice with Beef and Pad Ped.
Fat Sandwich Company
Fat Sandwich is such a staple of UIUC. I’ve only ever gotten the Fat MILF and it’s all I could ever want in a sandwich. I’m so glad that it’s still around (I graduated in 2017). ILL!
This are a go-to late night spot. The names are funny and the sandwiches are really good. One thing I really liked was that they let you control the aux. This means you can catch a stray vibe when you dine in. The place is decorated cool and I would recommend this place to anyone who wants some grub after going to the bars.
Sushi Kame
Some of the best Midwest sushi available. I am really picky about tuna because I lived in Aomori Japan and I really enjoyed their tuna. The takoyaki is also authentic and very tasty. All of the staff is really lovely. It is a small space, but quite cozy. I miss their previous location, but everything here is just as good. Highly recommend
Used to love this place. But last time we went there, it took forever for our sushi to be served and the sushi wasn't good. I'm pretty sure they didnt use sushi rice. The taste was bland and sushi was cold.
Sakanaya
I was amazed to try this vegan Willis tower. As someone who has been on a vegan diet for my whole entire life, this menu was the best vegan menu I’ve ever tried. Definitely recommend and will be back every week!! Highly recommend!! Chefs at the sushi bar were so nice and the service was great! Top tier servers and hosts❤️
The service and food quality at Sakanaya is unmatched throughout Illinois. The atmosphere perfectly complements the exquisite dining experience. Their fish is incredibly fresh and the service is spectacular, truly making this restaurant Champaign’s hidden gem. The Fuji Mountain roll is beautifully presented and bursting with flavor—an absolute must-get! If you’re in the area and looking for a standout meal, Sakanaya delivers an unforgettable experience!
Oozu Ramen
My favorite part of the experience is the atmosphere. The big bowl of fake ramen in the front, the wall decorations, the lanterns was just so beautiful and so much to look at! Never ending eye wander. I got the vegetarian ramen and my hubby got the curry ramen and both was delicious. Ageshi tofu was tasty and the fried calamari was just OK. I didn't really like the sauce. Broth was delicious and noodle was great. One thing I noticed is that they kept refilling our water which I love. Sometimes the servers never refill my water and I have to ask but not this place. None stop service. Everything was great. Will definitely come back for some more delicious ramen!
I came here hungry for some savory Ramen and left pretty disappointed. I ordered the Tonkatsu Ramen and was sorely disappointed by it. The broth was weak and flavorless and the noddles were just okay. The eggs were really good but that's not good enough for a $16 meal.
Bangkok Thai Restaurant & Pho 911
Cashew chicken is unreal delicious — best I’ve ever had. I recommend paying a few more dollars for double chicken. Green curry is also superb. I grew up in Southeast Asia having alot of good Thai, and this place never disappoints. Food tastes really authentic and not over sweetened like many Thai restaurants in the U.S. tend to do. Have tried other Thai places in the area like “Sticky Rice” and it doesn’t even come close to here.
Highly popular joint for anyone who likes Thai food. Super fast service with a smile. One of the few places which has genuinely spicy food. Pad thai noodles and green curry with rice recommended. The crab cakes are just awesome. Clean place. Good portions as well. Standard place for students. Reasonably priced as well. One of the iconic places for all students .
YGF Malatang UIUC
This was my first time having malatang at a restaurant, and it was a great experience! There is a large selection of ingredients you can add to your bowl, such as veggies, noodles, tofu, meat, and seafood. My favorites were the crystal noodles, bean curd strips, and beef (I chose the less fatty one, and it was super tender). There’s also a little station where you can add fresh toppings/make your own dipping sauce just like at hot pot. I got the classic herbal beef bone broth, which was pretty mild but I added chili paste from the dipping sauce bar to make it spicy. The broth was amazing quality — silky smooth and really flavorful. Each ingredient was perfectly cooked in the broth, and it was a super cozy meal overall. The service was great too, and the interior is really nice. I’ll definitely come back again, especially in the colder weather!
The Mala Tang is very delicious. The environment is also clean and tidy. It is recently opened new store. Another great lunch restaurant on Green St.
Royal BBQ
This place was pretty bad, the duck wings were not at all for an American palette. The peking duck was not tender, so little meat, and the flavors were kind of all a mess. It had a lot of potential but this place was a red flag the moment it was described as “fast food”.
Soo good. Im Very pleased that I have found roasted duck in the area. I miss the Chinese restaurants in Chicago. But now I've found a place that has the same great flavors. I had the pick 3 and the duck and pork belly were my favorite. The wings were dry and lacked Flavor. But the meal in itself was right on time. Ill be back...
