New Haven's Taste of China
The service was slow. Husband got his chicken about 15 minutes before I got my rice. The twice cooked pork rice was not good. The pork didn’t even taste cooked. So many other good choices .
Here’s a fun Christmas story: Realizing that Christmas Eve and Christmas/Hanukkah are very popular times for Chinese food, I and my family made a reservation for 12 people at 6:00 on Christmas night weeks in advance. When we arrived, we could not get in the front door because all the scooter delivery drivers were standing in the vestibule and at the front desk blocking entry. When we finally made it in, we were escorted to the very back of the restaurant where the temperature was a brisk 62-ish, as compared to the front of the restaurant, which was warmer. While walking back, it was clear that the restaurant was at about 95% capacity. I can only assume that most of the people there had the foresight to make reservations. When we arrived in the very back, we were presented with a table for 8. Not 12. 8. Pretty simple stuff. Fortunately, the table of 4 next to us very reluctantly moved one table over to accommodate us. So, right there, you’ve got 16 annoyed people. Not a good start. When the 1 waiter serving the entire back finally came around to give us water and take our drink order after about 30 minutes, it became clear that we were in for a real treat. We ordered drinks. They came 30 minutes later. We ordered appetizers and entrees. Most often, when the waiter haphazardly, over a period of 90+ minutes brought food back, he had no idea what table it belonged to. All the guests were claiming similar dishes and turning back dishes they didn’t order. Some capitulated and took what they could get. During this 90+ minutes, I walked to the front of the restaurant to see what was happening and thaw myself out a little. Almost every table in the place was expressing annoyance because the same was happening to them. Meanwhile, the scooter delivery drivers were again crowding the front. Even more this time. I told the front desk that it would be best to suspend delivery. They ignored me. I went back to eat, and found the food undercooked, lukewarm and just plain bad. Unfortunately, 3 in our party woke up vomiting and with diarrhea in the middle of the night. Others simply felt queasy and had chills. The kitchen was clearly overwhelmed. The whole place was. Bottom lines: The management showed utter disregard for the diners that night, to wit: They had to know this was coming. They didn’t staff even close to properly. They allowed a huge amount of take out at the expense of everyone dining there (they should have shut it down). They clearly sacrificed food quality for quantity. They were rude when people became annoyed. People got sick from something they ate there (I’m guessing we weren’t the only ones). The atmosphere was terrible, mostly because it was freezing. The service was an absolute joke. The whole restaurant was annoyed and they did nothing to remedy it. I’ve eaten there many times and have found the food to be pretty good, but pricey. I’ve found the staff to be unfriendly, which I can generally tolerate. But the total lack of integrity and disregard for the customers that night was so bad that I won’t support them. This really wasn’t rocket surgery. They had to see it coming and they clearly didn’t care. Not a good strategic plan.
York St Noodle House
We found this restaurant to be a great spot for a cozy, satisfying noodle meal. The noodle soup was warm, rich, and comforting, with tofu, scallions, and cilantro adding a fresh and flavorful balance. The pan-fried dumplings, drizzled with a slightly spicy sauce, were another highlight – their crispy exterior and tender filling were absolutely delicious. The fried wontons were perfectly crunchy and made for a delightful appetizer. However, we were a bit disappointed that the staff wasn’t able to accommodate our request to mix different types of noodles for a more creative meal. While the presentation and ingredients were somewhat ordinary, the comforting and well-executed flavors made up for it. Whenever we’re craving a no-fuss bowl of noodles or tasty Chinese dumplings, we’ll certainly keep this spot in mind.
Simply wow! Took my daughters there last night and it was absolutely fantastic! I got the spicy miso ramen (excellent!), one daughter had the pad Thai and the other spicy tum yum soup. The dumplings were to die for as well 😋 definitely added to the rotation going forward!!!
Tibetan Kitchen
Some of the best food I have had in New Haven! Amazing food options, glad there is a vegetarian option and hearty soups served with rice. I have only ordered take out so I have not had a sit down experience but when I pass it usually looks packed with people which is good!
Great little spot. Excellent food. Would go back. Tons of clearly labeled vegan snd vegetarian options. Himalayan ne-zom: 10/10 Chili tofu: 10/10 Momo: 10/10

Mystry INDIAN KITCHEN
I had a mixed experience at Mystry Indian Kitchen. The food was good, and I especially enjoyed the garlic naan. However, I found the portion sizes to be quite small for the price. The service was decent, but the atmosphere left much to be desired. Unfortunately, I also noticed some sanitation issues. There were particles in my water, and the bathroom was dirty and lacking toilet paper. Given these concerns, I can’t say I would recommend this restaurant without some improvements.
I went into the restaurant not feeling great for a number of reasons, but needing something to eat before a long drive. It was quiet, but there were two tables occupied, and what I saw on both looked amazing both in how it was served and how it smelled. I was asked if I would dine in and take out, and at first I was going to do take out, but I’m really glad I stayed to dine in. The server was super lovely and answered my questions about the meal and just generally made me feel at ease and welcome. The music was great and the longer I sat at my booth the more glad I was I had dined in! I don’t even usually take photos of my food but I wanted to send it to my my family. I was appreciative that vegetarian options were listed (maybe even vegan but I can’t remember now) and again the server was great - she knew the menu and totally helped when I asked her opinion between two. There were lots of vegetarian options and I had leftovers for a few days - super delicious and filling and amazing. Just wanted to thank them / spread the word for really being lovely. I left feeling a lot better than I was feeling when I arrived :)
China King
Horrible food. Unpleasant service. The only thing that was okay was the location and fast service. But those two things alone will never get me to go back. The fish was over cooked on the outside. Undercooked on the inside. No flavor. It was worse than a no name brand of microwavable fish from Aldi's. The half chicken was under cooked. I asked for fried hard/well. No flavor. Complete disappointment. This is the 3rd time trying different things over the last year. All 3 were extremely bad experiences. Won't give them a 4th try.
The food is delicious and the lady in the front is very nice . The food is always cooked to perfection I highly recommend this place if you are in the New Haven area.
Wok on In
It's a typical Chinese food place. Nothing too fancy but it does the job.
So the chicken wings are okay, a bit greasy and the taste is like soul food kind of chicken wings but like in a very basic way. I ordered chicken fried rice with chicken wings and an egg roll which I ate before the pictures. Egg roll was good. The chicken fried rice has like a pepper taste. Like they only used salt and pepper and scallions that’s it. That’s the flavor. Not the typical Chinese food flavor. So chicken wings and egg roll is a safe dish to order. Fried rice is also okay but ehh I’ve definitely had way better.
