Moon Star, Cromwell, CT
Simple and effective! Stopped in last night to grab something quick. I ordered a General Tso’s combination and a Large Pork Lo-Mein. When I went inside it reminded me of a place I used to frequent back in Queens. Family owned and operated, the young man who took care of me at the front was very polite. I got my food on-time and hot. The food was great, I have absolutely no complaints. The General Tsos was actually spicy like I prefer, the rice was fresh and flavorful. The Lo-Mein was just what I expected. I would definitely order here again.
I’d been to Moon Star a couple of times before but always found the food average. I decided to give it another try since I’d never had their orange chicken before. The lunch special is a good deal for the amount of food you get (they added a generous portion of orange chicken). Although the owners are very nice and friendly (one of the things I like the most about this place), I don’t think I’ll be returning in a long time. Something about the food made me feel sick. I don’t know if it was the greasiness or something that was wrong with it. It didn’t go light on my stomach. The orange chicken has a lot of sauce with intense orange flavor including rinds that sometimes felt too strong. The rice tasted too greasy and its portion was a little smaller than expected. I do not recommend ordering the wonton soup as a lunch side, it had a funky smell and the wontons were not appetizing at all, even less if you take a look at the mystery meat inside them. I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend this place, but if you’re looking for an average cheap lunch that is filling it’s a good option.
