Chinatown Chinese Restaurant

November 2024 - Looking for a new Chinese place, we chose the Chinatown Restaurant in Canton. Checking out the online menu, some details were left out about some of the items, so I called before a family member picked up our takeout. Very helpful, it sounded like the Chef himself as he was busy cooking, he told me they only had one dumpling, not a choice of vegetable or pork. They put both together. He also said the House Lo Mein consisted of shrimp, chicken and pork. Our takeaways were as follows: The egg roll and shrimp roll had the same crispy wrapping and were both good. The spring rolls were not to our family member's liking as they had what all of the Chinese places around us currently have which is a paste of some kind in the center. I will have to try these myself to see what they mean. The wonton soup was very good. The right temperature, wonton dough not too dense, filling was pure and the broth was flavorful. Their dumplings were also cooked expertly, but one family member found the combination unsatisfying as there wasn't either enough meat or vegetables to their liking. The rest of us enjoyed them, though I realize if you're a vegetarian you cannot get dumplings here as in other restaurants where they make both. Mains: The winner was General Tso's chicken. I never order it, but so many people do and it always seems like a winner overall. The serving was plentiful, the chicken was tender with a soft coating and a little broccoli on the side, which is common with this dish. The beef and broccoli also had tender meat, a good sauce and was a good portion size. The only negative was the broccoli stalks were too long and undercooked. A large container of well cooked white rice came to share with this meal and the Tso's chicken. The House Lo Mein did not look anything to me like what I would get in California, but even after so many years back home in CT, I'm still adjusting to these differences. What looked like a container of brown noodles with a little bit of addons, I asked, is this mine? Yes, was the response as everyone was happy to run off with theirs. Fortunately, it tasted better than it looked presentation wise. Still, I could only have two servings before giving the other half away for someone else's lunch the next day. Our favorite thing we all agreed they did the best with this order, was their House Fried Rice with an added egg. Perfectly made with shrimp, chicken, pork, the egg and some fresh peas. Plenty of fortune cookies were included in the bag, along with chopsticks and a variety of sauces. They do have indoor seating. Maybe six tables? The owners are very polite and accommodating. Open six days a week basically 11Am - 10Pm. Closed Mondays and most holidays. Plenty of parking as they are within a small shopping plaza.

I ordered fried rice, and I had a very bad week, and I just wanted my fried rice. And spoke specifically to have my fried rice. And guess what? It wasn't in there. So I cried. Good food overall.

Mizu 21 is a new addition to my Connecticut restaurant experience, opened last October it is an excellent option if you are into sushi sashimi and habashi. Warm friendly staff a nice atmosphere and a nice variety of sushi rolls to choose from. Looking forward to going back.

Very nice, renovated place. Very clean. About food, sushi wasnt the greatest. It was hard to find the taste in sushi. Hibachi steak/shrimp with rice and noodles. Noodles were the worst from that, such weird taste. Rice was very good, steak tasted like wasnt fresh and shrimp was okay. Portion wasnt that big for 31$. Salad was good, fresh vegies (mostly lettuce) and sauce was delicious. Overall food 3/5.

Amazing to find really good, fresh fish along with excellent service in middle of CT. Perfect place to enjoy a perfectly fried, Captains platter with scallops, cod, clam bellies, shrimp and calamari with a side salad and fries. Enjoyed meal on outside patio while cool, sun was out. Will return. Waitress was very attentive, checking to make sure we enjoyed meal. We also enjoyed a very creamy and tasty clam chowder and chicken wings.

Went to Canton and Rocky Hill restaurants. Fish stew is one of my favorites. Rocky Hill is hands down the winner. RH has more fish variety in the stew and is much spicier. Had fish combo at RH. Best fish around, I highly recommend. Family style salad with great house dressings. Dinner still comes with an after dinner fruit bowl. Wait staff was very attentive. Definitely my go to fish restaurant.

I had a great time here ! I went on a Tuesday night around 4:30/5, no wait time. The waiter was exceptionally kind. I absolutely loved the chicken satay with peanut sauce. And they’re halal!! I stayed for a while to read as well. Would definitely return here.

Where do I begin? Looking for Thai food I promise don’t try anywhere else. The Green Papaya is the place to go! I’ve tried many great Thai spots and I would recommend this heavily. If you’re not sure what to order my go to is Pad Thai crispy chicken. This spot is seriously great with such a delicious variety of food. I’ve been eating here for years and it never gets old whether it’s summer or winter I’ll always eat here. 🤗

I can’t rate the atmosphere because I’ve never eaten inside. Tonight was disappointing it seems the quality is waning these days. Ordered a cheeseburger and for argument sake I said well done in the beginning of the order; But after modifying other items I ordered either the well done was never written down or the cook just did what he/she wanted. My kid bit into the burger and it was pretty rare . Wasn’t bleeding rare but too rare for my taste let alone a child. So suffice to say no place is immune from these mistakes. I think every restaurant should be mandated to cook meats for well done. This was gross and I hope my kid doesn’t get sick. The other items were okay, seems the more I go the more it gets worse. I’m going to take a break from this restaurant for awhile. I’m really not one to complain online and it’s even harder for me to complain in person. Other restaurants are also on my do not go for awhile list. It just seems for the prices these days it more worth the effort to make it at home.

9/24- Their chicken sandwich with cheese and bacon comes together well with a lot of crispy bacon and crunchy bread. # August 2024 - One of the special menu of the week orders was basically chicken and waffles with a twist of poutine and pickles. Interesting. The standard menu grilled chicken sandwich is delicious and one of their healthier choices. It is a popular place and so packed last week there were no parking spaces available of their own, but you can park in an adjacent spot. Closed Sunday and Monday. Open until 7 pm on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Tuesday and Wednesday hours are 11-3:30 pm. # Nice place for locals or visitors driving down Rte 44 to pull over for some feel-good food. Outdoor seasonal seating. Customers order at the counter and are called when their order is done or wait staff brings the food to your table. We sat outside and asked the waitress if we needed to come back in to pick up our food, and she said, no, she would bring it to us. After a half an hour, I was about to get up and inquire how long it took for two burgers to be made with light traffic, when the cook himself came out with our food and nicely said he thought we left him hanging. ? Anyway, both burgers were very good and cooked to temperature. The Beau's Burger Bleu, with blue cheese and bacon, was very tasty, and the Mushroom & Swiss was equally so. Fries with my meal were the right combination of crispy and soft. My companion wanted onion rings, so this was added to the bill as a side. I've eaten here before doing reviews and always liked their chili dog. They do have salads, soup, and chili for those who do not want a burger and chicken tenders for kids. On the high end, they have lobster rolls - I was tempted to try one as I love to compare these, and the Shrimp Po' Boy, whole belly clam and clam strip platter also sound promising. There is much to try here with an easy stop off the road.

Outstanding food with good to great service! I picked an appetizer and a huge brisket plater that was outstanding all the way around. Little pricy, but what isn't these days. Dig the 50s diner vibes with early rock & rock playing at a reasonable volume. Definitely got my 💰 worth!

I was finally able to make it to this place, and was very happy I did. I'd been looking forward to it for some time. The location is not necessarily the best as it is on a very wide, fast-moving road. But other than that, it was very nice. There was plenty of parking around the back of the building, with plenty of handicapped parking, and spots reserved for those who've served. We had a little wait before we got our table, but once we did, it saw very nice. The menu was overflowing with delicious choices, and the waitstaff was super friendly. Once the food arrived, I was delighted by how good everything tasted. It was better than I was hoping for. One of the only downsides was that due to the accustical properties of the room, when a demon child started screaming, it was like that shrill was right in my ear. It was very unpleasant. However, that nasty creature was soon placated, and the rest of my meal was fine. Do yourself the favor of ordering the apple fritters. They are handmade, made to order, and simply amazing.
