About Zhangliang Malatang

Zhangliang Malatang, a Chinese restaurant located at 246 Castro St in Mountain View, California, offers a distinctive dining experience centered around customizable individual hot pots and dry pots. You can contact them at (650) 282-5131 or +1 650-282-5131.

A key feature of Zhangliang Malatang is the wide variety of ingredients available for your hot pot. Priced at $14.99 per pound (with the broth weight excluded), you can select from numerous options including various meats, meatballs, vegetables, and tofu. One customer highly recommended the quality of their blood tofu, noting its smooth and pleasant texture.

The process involves selecting your desired ingredients and having your bowl weighed. After payment at the front, you receive a plastic ticket number, and the kitchen staff will cook your personalized hot pot and bring it directly to your table, offering a convenient service. They also have a custom sauce bar for you to enhance your hot pot.

Zhangliang Malatang offers five different broth options, with customizable spice levels. One reviewer who chose the mild classic broth found it surprisingly spicy but still enjoyable. For vegetarians, there is a significant selection of vegetables; however, it's important to note that a single tong is used by all customers to pick their items, potentially leading to cross-contamination between meat and vegetables.

The service is reported to be fast, even with a potentially long line to enter, which moves relatively quickly. Customers also noted efficient payment and food delivery times. The restaurant boasts a modern and warm interior, described as newly renovated and clean, with fun orange accents. Parking is generally not an issue due to the availability of lots in downtown Mountain View.

Keep in mind that the tables might be a bit small, and the restaurant can get crowded, especially during lunch hours when they may encourage quicker turnover once you've finished eating. To-go containers are available if you wish to take home any leftover soup.

This is a great deal if you’re looking to get an individual hotpot with a wide variety of options. The hotpot is $14.99/lb, and they weigh your bowl by the amount of items you get (the broth is not part of the weight). There’s also so many options! Like definitely make sure not to get too many things in the first section, because there’s so many other sections left! They have so many types of meat, meatballs, vegetables, tofu, etc. I got their blood tofu which was quality. It did not taste grainy and was quite smooth and pleasant. In the back, after the payment counter, there’s toppings, the bowls and the spoons are underneath the cart in the fridge-looking cabinet For vegetarians: There’s a lot of vegetable options with this hot pot, but everyone gets a single tong to pick all their items with, so there’s definitely some cross-contamination between the meats and the vegetables. So it depends how strict of a vegetarian you are They have 5 different broth options. I got the classic broth and you can select different spice levels. I selected mild, which was surprisingly spicy to be honest, but I could still eat it (just didn’t expect that level of spice for mild). After you get the hotpot you pay at the front. They give you a plastic ticket number, and then they cook it for you and bring it over. I like that they do that because it’s very convenient. The service was fast. There was a long line to get in, but it moved quickly. So after joining the waitlist we were able to get in line after 15 to 20 minutes. I also didn’t feel like we waited too long to pay or for food to arrive, which was great. The inside is modern and warm. It feels newly renovated and it’s clean. They also accent the restaurant in this orange detail, which is fun. Parking: Downtown Mountain View has plenty of lots, so it’s not hard to find parking.

Delicious place for custom hot pots or dry pots. You collect up all the ingredients you want which is charged by weight. Custom sauce bar is quite tasty as well. Tables are a little small, it gets crowded easily and they start to rush you out during the lunch hour when you're done with your food. They do have to-go containers to take home your soup if you want.

Great value! You maybe too excited to control what you get but as long as stay tempered it’s one of the best value meals in the area. Let’s hope it continues to stay economical. I would hate to see a price increase like what they did at Yogurt land.

Great experience and tasty food! The broth (even medium one) is decently spicy, very flavorful. Choices of veggies/meat/sea food is excellent. Would have loved to see some chicken on the menu though! Space is cramped but considering it’s Mountain View Downtown- it’s expected. Seating on a weekday for dinner was a less than 10 minutes wait. Service is good. Not meant for vegetarians. Pricing is based on weight.

Came for lunch on a busy Weds. Staff was quick to help, amicable. The food selection was a great experience as the customer picks from a vast selection of fresh meat, veggies and broth, thereafter gives the bowl to the cashier/cook to prepare and boil in broth of your choice. Really neat concept and modern style. They charge by the pound. Clean establishment.
