As a Chinese restaurant specializing in a pay-by-weight soup concept, Zhang Liang offers a variety of options for customers to create their own personalized hotpot.

The restaurant operates on a self-serve basis. Upon entering, customers seat themselves, grab a bowl, and select their desired ingredients from a variety of options. The cost of the soup is determined by the weight of the chosen items, with a minimum charge of $12 per bowl. After selecting ingredients, customers proceed to checkout, and once ordered, a waiter will provide utensils and the prepared bowl of soup.

Zhang Liang Spicy Hotpot is known for its soup bases, including the spicy bone broth malatang, beef broth, and tomato broth. One reviewer who enjoys spicy food found the extra spicy malatang to be less spicy than expected and noted that their chili oil is more savory than spicy, recommending ordering extra spice for those who prefer a higher level of heat. Another reviewer expressed a strong preference for the beef broth (even the mild version) over the tomato broth, while acknowledging that personal preferences vary, as some friends enjoyed the tomato broth more.

A notable feature of Zhang Liang Spicy Hotpot is its affordability, with customers typically spending less than $20 per bowl. The service is described as fast after the order is placed. Customers are advised to portion their ingredients carefully to avoid overestimating how much they will eat, similar to preparing their own noodle dish with toppings.

Based on the available reviews, Zhang Liang Spicy Hotpot offers a customizable and relatively affordable soup experience. The self-serve format allows for a wide variety of ingredient choices. Their spicy bone broth and beef broth are popular options, although spice levels may vary. I really enjoyed their spicy bone broth malatang. I got the extra spicy as someone who loves spicy food and didn’t find it to be as spicy as expected. Their chili oil definitely is on the more savory side than spicy so order more on spicy side if you’re a fan. Overall, everything came out to be less than $20 and came out very fast.

A pay by weight soup restaurant that comes with a variety of options to choose from. Restaurant is self serve so you just enter the shop and seat yourself, grab a bowl and then checkout. Once ordered, the waiter will give you all the utensils and the bowl you ordered. Been here a couple of times and typically end up spending less than $20 (minimum is $12/bowl). Make sure to portion right and not overestimate how much you eat; imagine it as if you’re cooking your own noodles and how much toppings you’d add to it. Tried both the tomato and beef broth soup and I honestly love the beef broth soup (got it mild though cause I can’t survive their spicy looool). Not the biggest fan of their tomato soup though but I’ve had friends who had it and they liked it more than the beef broth; just personal preferences but both is good! Definitely recommend trying out ~

My go to spot for comfort food. This place has all of my favourite things for hotpot. You just come in and make your bowl, they will chef it up for you. Always get the original soup because it is FIRE. I can eat the same thing all day and it’ll still be good. My guy, the tall Chinese male that works there is so respectful he always smiles and makes me feel like home. Whenever I see him it makes the meal taste better. Very good customer service.

I’ve always walked by this place and been wanting to check it out. Super glad that I decided to try something new and finally go in! Zhang Liang has become my go-to these days. The broth is super tasty, and I love the concept of choosing your own toppings and weighing it after. You can choose either 2 broths (and change the spice level) and there is a dry option as well. If you can’t handle your spice, I would recommend getting the tomato broth, but if you can then their beef bone broth is superior 👌 It’s great to come here on your own or with friends, as you pay for your food first then eat. No need for any extra service - it is very simple. The workers here are friendly and will assist you if needed. Also, if you aren’t so hungry, this meal is perfect to share with a partner or friend :) The interior is clean and everything is laid out nicely. Very spacious too. Compared to other locations, I am very fond of this one. My only complaint is that I wish they had a membership card as I keep coming back lol. But it’s nice that there’s also a 10% cash discount 🙂

Came to Zhang Liang for the first time and it didn't disappoint! Previous malatang restos that I've visited didn't have many non spicy options, but this one had great options! I ordered the mild beef broth, and I'd say it was a true mild (in a good way as someone who can't do too spicy). There was a good variety of ingredients to add to your bowl and areas were clean and well organized. I do wish there was a sauce bar, although the staff did ask if I wanted to add sesame sauce to my bowl. Overall great malatang and would come again!
