About Yummy Wok Chinese Restaurant

Yummy Wok Chinese Restaurant, located at 392 Diederich Blvd in Ashland, Kentucky, is a local establishment offering Chinese cuisine to the community. With phone numbers (606) 329-8686 and +1 606-329-8686, it provides options for both dine-in and takeout service. Customer reviews present a somewhat polarized view of the restaurant, highlighting both positive and significantly negative experiences.

According to one customer who had dined at Yummy Wok both before and during the Covid-19 pandemic, the restaurant has reopened for indoor dining and is "getting back into the swing of things." This reviewer described the environment as "very clean," which is a crucial aspect for a positive dining experience. The cleanliness of a restaurant often reflects its overall standards and attention to detail, contributing to customer comfort and confidence.

The services at Yummy Wok include both dine-in and takeout, catering to different customer preferences. The positive review specifically praised the "impeccable" service received during a recent dine-in visit. The server was described as "very friendly" and helpful in guiding customers to choose dishes based on their spice preferences. This suggests that at least some members of the staff are attentive and dedicated to providing a good customer experience. The reviewer also noted that the portion sizes appeared to be "of double size," indicating generous servings that could even provide leftovers for a second meal.

One of the standout features mentioned in the positive review is the Mongolian beef, which was described as the "best I’ve ever had" and notably spicy for those who enjoy heat. This suggests that Yummy Wok caters to customers with a preference for spicy food and has at least one dish that is particularly well-received in this category. The reviewer also highlighted the availability of non-spicy options, with the server offering guidance in selecting suitable dishes. This indicates a willingness to accommodate different taste preferences.

However, a starkly contrasting review paints a very different picture of Yummy Wok. This customer stated that if they could give a zero-star rating, they would. Their primary complaint was "terrible" customer service, citing an incident where a staff member allegedly mishandled a payment issue, incorrectly claiming their card was bad due to a system malfunction and then arguing with the customer for 5-10 minutes before the system finally worked. While an apology was eventually offered, the initial interaction left a negative impression.

Furthermore, this negative review described the food as "inedible." Specific dishes were criticized for various reasons. The chicken chow mein was reported to have "no flavor," and the "chicken" itself was described as being very white, looking boiled, and lacking the typical texture of chicken. The egg roll was found to be strangely "covered in cinnamon," including the inside, which is an unusual and potentially unappetizing addition for many. The spring roll was described as "just mush," indicating a problem with its texture and possibly the ingredients used. Even the steamed dumplings were reported to taste like "bacon," which is an unexpected flavor for a traditional Chinese dumpling and suggests a significant deviation from typical preparation or ingredients.

The customer who had this negative experience concluded that they did not know "what’s going on here" but would "never be back." This strong statement underscores the severity of their dissatisfaction with both the service and the food quality during their visit. The discrepancies between the two reviews suggest a potential inconsistency in the restaurant's operations, where some customers have a very positive experience while others encounter significant issues with both service and the edibility of the food.

At this time, there is no information available in the provided reviews regarding any promotional offers or special deals that Yummy Wok Chinese Restaurant might be running. To inquire about any current promotions, such as lunch specials, family discounts, or limited-time offers, it would be best to contact the restaurant directly at their phone number: (606) 329-8686 or +1 606-329-8686. Given the conflicting customer experiences, it might also be prudent to ask about the preparation methods and recent feedback on specific dishes you are considering ordering.

In conclusion, Yummy Wok Chinese Restaurant in Ashland, KY, presents a mixed picture based on recent customer reviews. While one reviewer praised the clean environment, impeccable and friendly service, delicious and spicy Mongolian beef, and generous portion sizes, another reported terrible customer service and inedible food with significant issues in flavor, texture, and unusual ingredients like cinnamon in the egg roll and a bacon-like taste in the dumplings. Potential local users should be aware of these contrasting experiences when considering dining at or ordering from Yummy Wok. It might be advisable to inquire about the restaurant's current standards and any promotions directly before making a decision.

My wife and I ate here a few times before Covid shut everyone down, and also a few times for takeout during the whole pandemic. Now they are back open for people to eat inside again and getting back into the swing of things. We ate inside for the first time in a while and I just had to leave a review about it. The service was impeccable, the restaurant is very clean, and they really do have fantastic food. If you like it spicy, get the Mongolian beef. They have the best I’ve ever had, and wow is it hot! They also have dishes that are not spicy, and our server guided us to help choose which ones we wanted. She was very friendly. The portions seem to be of double size, too. We ate until we couldn’t eat anymore and had enough left to take home for a second meal later. I highly recommend you try this restaurant!

Honestly if I could give a 0 star I would. Customer service was terrible. The lady taking my payment was trying to say my card was bad because her system wasn’t working. Then tried arguing with me over it. After 5-10 minutes her system finally worked and apologized. Then the food was inedible. Chicken chow mein had no flavor, and the “chicken” was so white it looked boiled and didn’t have the texture of chicken. Egg roll was covered in cinnamon for some reason including the inside. Spring roll was just mush. The steamed dumplings tasted like bacon? I don’t know what’s going on here but I’ll never be back.

Quite possibly the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Sweet and sour chicken combo plate including rice and and egg roll. The chicken pieces were really just balls of batter. There was little if any chicken in them and the rice was obviously out of a box (and if I had to bet it was an off brand). I couldn't even finish the egg roll bc it was so bland. I work about a mile down the road and thought this would be a good place to try but please save your money and let my loss be the one you learn from.
