About Yummy Dim Sum
Welcome to Yummy Dim Sum, a Chinese restaurant located at 307 10th St, Oakland, CA 94607, USA. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Yummy Dim Sum specializes in providing dim sum, a Cantonese cuisine featuring a variety of small, savory dishes. Based on customer reviews, Yummy Dim Sum offers a convenient option for those seeking ready-to-serve or takeout dim sum in the Oakland area.
For inquiries or to place an order, you can contact Yummy Dim Sum at (510) 893-3388 or via their mobile number, +1 510-893-3388. These contact details can be used to confirm their operating hours, inquire about their menu offerings beyond what is immediately visible, and ascertain any specific ordering procedures.
According to customer feedback, Yummy Dim Sum is described as "not a fancy place," suggesting a casual and unpretentious environment. However, its key feature is the availability of dim sum that is "ready to serve or take out." This implies a focus on quick service and convenience, catering to customers who may be looking for a fast meal or want to enjoy dim sum at home or elsewhere.
For customers who may not speak Cantonese or Mandarin, Yummy Dim Sum offers a practical solution for ordering. The steamers containing the various dim sum dishes are readily accessible, allowing customers to simply point to the items they would like to purchase. This approach facilitates easy ordering and ensures that language is not a barrier to enjoying their offerings. The food is also reported to come out "quickly," further emphasizing the efficiency of their service.
One specific dish mentioned in a review is the "Hao Gao" (蝦餃), or shrimp dumplings. The reviewer noted that all plates were priced at $5 and were for takeout only. The order consisted of four small dumplings, each less than 1 ounce in weight and approximately 1.25 inches in width. Based on this, the reviewer calculated the cost to be $1.25 per dumpling. This provides specific pricing information for at least one of their dim sum items and confirms that takeout is a primary service offered.
Regarding the filling of the Ha Gao, the reviewer described it as "mostly shrimp with possibly fish paste." They observed some variability in the filling, with one dumpling containing more shrimp and another having more fish paste. The taste was described as "ok," but the seasoning was noted to be "salty" for the reviewer's personal preference. This offers insights into the flavor profile and composition of at least one of their dim sum offerings, highlighting both positive aspects (presence of shrimp) and potential drawbacks (saltiness, possible use of fish paste). The small size of the dumplings was also implicitly noted through the measurements provided.
Based on the available information, the environment of Yummy Dim Sum is likely functional and geared towards quick service and takeout rather than an elaborate dine-in experience. The focus appears to be on the accessibility and speed of obtaining dim sum. The setup with visible steamers for easy selection supports this notion of a straightforward and efficient service model.
In terms of services, Yummy Dim Sum primarily offers takeout. The mention of dim sum being "ready to serve" suggests that they may also have a very casual eat-in option, although the review specifying "take out only" for the Ha Gao plate implies that takeout is a significant part of their operation, if not the sole option for some or all items. The ordering process is facilitated by the visible steamers, allowing for easy selection regardless of language proficiency. The reported quick service is another key aspect of their service model.
Features of Yummy Dim Sum include its specialization in dim sum, the convenience of ready-to-serve options, and a user-friendly ordering system that does not rely on verbal communication of dish names. The pricing of $5 per plate for at least some items (like the Ha Gao) is also a notable feature. However, the small size of the dumplings and the potentially salty seasoning, as mentioned by one reviewer, are also characteristics of their offerings.
There is no specific promotional information available in the provided customer reviews. Local users interested in any special offers, discounts, or new menu items at Yummy Dim Sum would need to contact the restaurant directly to inquire. Without any mention of promotions in the feedback, it is not possible to comment on this aspect.
In conclusion, Yummy Dim Sum in Oakland offers a convenient and accessible way to enjoy dim sum, particularly for takeout. Its no-frills approach and the ability to order by pointing make it user-friendly, especially for those not fluent in Cantonese or Mandarin. While the service is reported to be quick, and the pricing for at least one item is known ($5 per plate for Ha Gao), potential customers should be aware of the portion sizes and flavor profiles, as one reviewer noted the small size of the dumplings and the saltiness of the seasoning. For the most accurate and up-to-date information on their menu, services, and any potential promotions, it is advisable to contact Yummy Dim Sum directly at (510) 893-3388.

Not a fancy place but they do have dim sum ready to serve or take out. If you don’t speak Cantonese or Mandarin, the steamers are right there for you to point to whatever dishes you like. The food comes quickly.
I ordered a plate of Hao Gao. All plates were $5. Take out only. 4 small dumplings less than 1 oz and 1.25" width, which comes out to $1.25 per dumpling. The filling was mostly shrimp with possibly fish paste. One dumpling had more shrimp whereas, one dumpling had more fish paste. Taste was ok but seasoning was salty for my tastes.
Limited selection but the lotus sticky rice is the best!
Food: Not good sui mai - very salty, tough pork, no shrimp or mushrooms inside. Hard gow- tiny, dried out wrapper and shrimp. This tasted like the frozen ones you can microwave at home Mochi- good Sesame ball-good Fried pork ball- okay/small Neighborhood-in the cuts of CT, very easy to miss Service- ladies were nice and the place takes credit card…..BUT that night I got a fraud alert on my credit card. Not sure if it is this place bc they were the only business that I gave my cc to, so who knows.
This is the best place for steamed bun in Oakland Chinatown! My family and I have been going here for many years and we have always enjoyed their pork buns, "big" buns (contains egg, chicken, seasoned pork, and Chinese sausage), cabbage & pork buns, and custard buns. For us, their steamed bread products are really what shine here, the bread is fluffy & soft without being too sweet or dry and the fillings are well-seasoned, fresh, and plentiful. Yummy Dim Sum was closed for a while for remodeling and our family had to try other places in Chinatown for steamed buns and all the others were not even close to the quality of this place. After remodeling, their prices were raised a bit (around $1 to $1.50 per item), but their prices are still very affordable and honestly, I don't think any small shops in the Bay Area can survive charging any less than they do at the moment. Furthermore, the shopkeepers are very nice and patient when we go there, which is always a nice plus for to-go shops such as this. Given they are one of the last good steamed bun places left in Oakland, my family & I are more than happy to support them when we can and would highly recommend you give them a try as well!
