About Yuan Ho

Welcome to Yuan Ho, a Chinese restaurant located at 117 Maury Ave, Charlottesville, VA 22903, USA. For local users seeking a dependable and reasonably priced Chinese dining experience, Yuan Ho presents itself as a solid option. Unlike some of the more upscale or, according to one reviewer, less satisfactory Chinese establishments in Charlottesville, Yuan Ho aims to provide a "normal, good Chinese restaurant" experience, focusing on familiar dishes at affordable prices.

Based on customer reviews, the environment of Yuan Ho is described as "a little run-down" and in need of "some renovation." While the physical appearance of the restaurant might not be its strongest suit, it is important to note that cleanliness is not mentioned as an issue. The focus seems to be more on functionality and providing value rather than a luxurious ambiance. One reviewer's comment, "Finally, a normal, good Chinese restaurant," suggests that the priority here is on the quality and affordability of the food rather than elaborate decor. For those prioritizing good food at a reasonable price over aesthetics, Yuan Ho may still be a worthwhile consideration.

Yuan Ho appears to primarily cater to takeout customers, although dine-in service is implied by the reviewer's comment about the restaurant's condition and the friendly people. One reviewer explicitly stated, "I will be coming back, at least for pick-up," indicating the convenience and appeal of their takeout service. The counter service is noted as being "very friendly," and the wait time for half of the ordered dishes was reported to be between 15-20 minutes, suggesting reasonably efficient service. However, a significant piece of information regarding services is the mention of "no bathrooms, at least ones that were obviously accessible." This could be a major inconvenience for dine-in customers and is an important factor for potential visitors to consider. Despite this limitation, the friendly service at the counter seems to be a consistent positive aspect of the customer experience, particularly for takeout orders. Local users should be aware of the potential lack of accessible restrooms if planning to dine in.

The features of Yuan Ho lie in its provision of "very typical Chinese" food that is generally well-received and affordable. Specific dishes mentioned in the reviews offer insights into their culinary strengths. The "sweet and sour chicken" was described as "very good," with particular praise for the sauce being served on the side. The "fried rice" was also noted as "good" and not excessively oily, which is a common concern with this dish. One reviewer provided specific ratings for several items: Spring Roll (7.7/10), Chicken and Broccoli (7.2/10), and Chicken in Garlic Sauce (8.0/10). These ratings suggest a generally positive assessment of these classic Chinese dishes. The reviewer who gave an overall rating of 4/5 stars concluded that Yuan Ho was a "good solid choice for Chinese in the Charlottesville area," indicating a reliable quality that justifies repeat business. The emphasis on being a "normal, good Chinese restaurant" implies a focus on delivering familiar and satisfying flavors without unnecessary frills or high prices.

The core appeal of Yuan Ho seems to be its ability to strike a balance between speed and quality, aligning with the life lesson mentioned by one reviewer: "fast, good, and cheap (you only get to choose two)." In the case of Yuan Ho, the reviewer found it to be "fast and good," with a friendly server and a reasonable wait time. This suggests that Yuan Ho prioritizes efficient service without compromising on the taste of their food. The affordability, while not explicitly detailed with prices, is consistently implied by the comparison to "bougie Chinese" restaurants and the general sentiment of it being a "very typical Chinese, affordable restaurant." This makes Yuan Ho an attractive option for those seeking a satisfying Chinese meal without breaking the bank.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided customer reviews. It is common for affordable, local restaurants like Yuan Ho to focus on consistent pricing and value rather than frequent promotions. However, they might offer lunch specials or combination deals that provide more food for a lower price during certain hours. To learn about any potential special offers or discounts at Yuan Ho, local users are encouraged to contact the restaurant directly at (434) 977-7878 or +1 434-977-7878. Inquiring about daily specials or any set meal options might reveal opportunities for even greater value.

In conclusion, Yuan Ho in Charlottesville, VA, offers a reliable and affordable option for those seeking classic Chinese cuisine. While the restaurant's decor may be somewhat dated, the friendly service, particularly for takeout, and the generally well-received food, including dishes like sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, spring rolls, chicken and broccoli, and chicken in garlic sauce, make it a solid choice. The reported lack of accessible bathrooms for dine-in customers is a significant drawback to consider. However, for those prioritizing good, typical Chinese food at a reasonable price, especially for takeout, Yuan Ho appears to be a dependable option in the Charlottesville area. Contact them directly for any questions about their menu, services, or potential special offers.

TL;DR: Finally, a normal, good Chinese restaurant. Most of Chinese in Charlottesville is either bougie Chinese or tastes bad. Very typical Chinese, affordable restaurant. The restaurant is a little run-down but the people were nice. I will be coming back, at least for pick-up. Specific Foods: Spring Roll: 7.7/10 Chicken and Broccoli: 7.2/10 Chicken in Garlic Sauce: 8.0/10 Special Attention: No bathrooms, at least ones that were obviously accessible. General Wait Time for 1/2 dishes: 15-20 min Room For Improvement: The restaurant could use some renovation.

This restaurant falls in line with the life lesson of fast, good, and cheap (you only get to choose two). It was fast and good. The server at the counter was very friendly and I did not have to wait long. A good solid choice for Chinese in the Charlottesville area. The sweet and sour chicken was very good, I really enjoyed the sauce on the side. The fried rice was good, not overly oily. A solid 4/5, liked it, and will most likely be back.
