About Yu Xiang Yuan

Located at 142-38 Roosevelt Ave in the bustling neighborhood of Flushing, New York City, Yu Xiang Yuan offers a distinct experience for those seeking authentic Cantonese-style Chinese cuisine. As a Chinese Restaurant, Yu Xiang Yuan aims to provide dishes that are not only delicious but also prepared with the freshest ingredients, staying true to traditional Cantonese cooking methods. While online reviews present a somewhat mixed picture, highlighting both positive and negative aspects of the dining experience, it's important to consider all available information to form a comprehensive understanding of what this establishment has to offer.

One of the most notable features of Yu Xiang Yuan, as highlighted by a customer review, is its commitment to freshness, particularly regarding its seafood. The presence of a "giant fish tank in the back with all the seafood live and swimming around" is a significant indicator of their dedication to using the freshest possible ingredients. This allows diners to enjoy seafood dishes, such as lobster and grouper, that are literally pulled from the tank and cooked to order. The emphasis on live seafood is a hallmark of many high-quality Cantonese restaurants, where freshness is paramount to the taste and texture of the dishes.

The authenticity of the Cantonese cuisine served at Yu Xiang Yuan is another point praised by a reviewer. The dishes are described as "legit like how my family would make it," suggesting that the restaurant stays true to traditional recipes and cooking techniques passed down through generations. For those familiar with authentic Cantonese flavors, this can be a significant draw, offering a taste of home or a genuine culinary experience.

In terms of pricing, Yu Xiang Yuan appears to offer good value for money. One reviewer specifically mentioned that their "twin lobster fried rice was ONLY $48," emphasizing the affordability of such a premium dish. The statement that "You can't find more authentic and affordable Chinese food in the city like this!" suggests that Yu Xiang Yuan positions itself as a restaurant that does not compromise on quality or authenticity despite its reasonable prices. This combination of genuine Cantonese flavors and affordable pricing could make it an attractive option for a wide range of diners.

However, it is crucial to acknowledge a contrasting experience shared by another customer. This review detailed a significant issue with a sweet pork chop dish, which was described as having a "weird sour expired meat taste." The reviewer's account of the owner's reaction to this complaint, which involved disputing the customer's assessment and walking away without offering a resolution, raises concerns about the restaurant's customer service and handling of food quality issues. While this appears to be an isolated incident reported in the available reviews, it is important for potential diners to be aware of this feedback.

Despite this negative experience, the same reviewer did note that "the rest of the staff were nice and the jellyfish was good," indicating that there might be inconsistencies in food quality across different dishes or perhaps this was an isolated issue with the pork chop. The positive feedback regarding the jellyfish suggests that some dishes are indeed prepared well and to the satisfaction of customers.

Considering the available information, Yu Xiang Yuan presents itself as a Chinese Restaurant in Flushing specializing in authentic Cantonese cuisine with a strong emphasis on fresh seafood, sourced directly from live tanks. The prices appear to be reasonable, offering good value for the quality and authenticity of the dishes, particularly the seafood options. The positive review highlights the genuine flavors and the freshness of the ingredients as key strengths. However, the negative review regarding a specific dish and the handling of the complaint indicates a potential area for improvement in terms of food quality consistency and customer service.

For local users in Flushing looking for a Cantonese dining experience, Yu Xiang Yuan at 142-38 Roosevelt Ave offers the allure of fresh, live seafood and authentic flavors at potentially affordable prices. The presence of a live fish tank is a unique feature that underscores their commitment to fresh ingredients. To make an informed decision, potential customers may want to consider the mixed feedback and perhaps inquire about the freshness and preparation of specific dishes they are interested in. For reservations or further information, you can contact Yu Xiang Yuan at (718) 908-8777 or +1 718-908-8777. Experiencing the restaurant firsthand will likely provide the most definitive understanding of the quality and service offered.

I decided to visit this restaurant on Mother’s Day. I came around 1pm and the place was a little more than half empty. We were seated immediately and we had a party of 3 adults, 1 toddler, and 1 baby. I ordered my go to meat dish which is a sweet pork chop dish. When I first bit into it, there was a weird sour expired meat taste. Everyone with me said the same. It just so happened that the owner came up to us at the time and asked us how the food was and we told her. She said no way and proceeded to take our tongs from our jellyfish dish and grabbed a piece of meat in front of us and ate it. Then she looked at me and said no you’re wrong, it’s just the sauce and then walked away with no solution. Now I’m stuck with a dish that’s inedible and I have to pay for it when it’s going to be trashed. I attached a photo showing how much meat was left after the owner took a piece. The rest of the staff were nice and the jellyfish was good.

This is a authentic Cantonese Style Chinese restaurant. All the of dishes are legit like how my family would make it. The ingredients are incredibly fresh - they have a giant fish tank in the back with all the seafood live and swimming around. So my lobsters and groupers was literally pulled out of the tank and cooked fresh. The prices are extremely reasonable !!! My twin lobster fried rice was ONLY $48! You can't find more authentic and affordable Chinese food in the city like this! I would highly recommend this place!
