About Young Chow Cafe Chinese and Thai Restaurant
Young Chow Cafe is a restaurant located at 6715 Lea Berry Way, Haymarket, VA 20169, USA, offering a fusion of Chinese and Thai cuisine. As a local establishment in Haymarket, Virginia, it aims to provide a diverse menu catering to those seeking both familiar Chinese dishes and the distinct flavors of Thai food. They can be contacted by phone at (703) 753-2863 or via mobile phone at +1 703-753-2863.
Recent customer reviews, however, present a concerning picture of the dining experience at Young Chow Cafe, particularly regarding food quality and customer service. One customer reported a significant issue with their order, which totaled over $60 and included shrimp fried rice. Upon receiving the food, they discovered the complete absence of shrimp in the dish. Attempts to resolve this issue by calling the restaurant were met with considerable frustration.
According to this reviewer, the initial phone response was from a non-English speaking individual who remained silent and unhelpful. When a man took over the call, his response to the missing shrimp was a dismissive "What do you want me to do?" This lack of willingness to address the error and the perceived indifference left the customer feeling that the restaurant was essentially "stealing" from them. The reviewer strongly advised potential customers to "BEWARE" and suggested taking their business elsewhere due to this negative experience, which they described as leaving a bad taste both figuratively and literally.
Another customer shared their disappointment after ordering a variety of dishes, including Crab Rangoon, Beef on a Stick, Fried Wontons, Chicken Pad Thai, and Combination Fried Rice, totaling $59. Unfortunately, they reported not enjoying any of the items. The fried wontons were described as excessively hard and empty, while the Crab Rangoon was deemed only "okay." Critically, this reviewer, who has prior experience working in a Thai restaurant for two years, stated that the Chicken Pad Thai was not authentic, lacking the characteristic sweet taste and instead being very plain. This overall negative experience led to significant dissatisfaction, especially considering the cost of the meal, and the reviewer expressed regret over leaving a tip.
Based on these two recent reviews, there appear to be significant concerns regarding both the accuracy of orders and the quality of the food at Young Chow Cafe. The issue with the missing shrimp in the shrimp fried rice points to potential problems with order preparation and quality control. Furthermore, the dismissive response from the staff member when this error was brought to their attention raises serious questions about their customer service practices and their commitment to resolving mistakes.
The second review reinforces concerns about food quality, with multiple dishes failing to meet the customer's expectations. The description of hard and empty fried wontons, mediocre Crab Rangoon, and inauthentic Pad Thai suggests potential issues with the preparation and ingredients used for various menu items. These experiences indicate a lack of consistency and quality that could deter potential diners.
The provided information does not offer any details about the environment or ambiance of Young Chow Cafe. The reviews focus solely on the issues with the food and service experienced during takeaway orders. Therefore, it is not possible to objectively describe the restaurant's interior decor, cleanliness, or overall atmosphere based on the given information. To gain insight into the dining environment, one would need to consult other online reviews or potentially visit the location.
Regarding services, the reviews indicate that Young Chow Cafe offers takeaway. One customer explicitly mentioned ordering food for delivery (though this was implied rather than stated directly), while the other detailed their experience with a takeaway order. However, there is no information provided about whether they offer dine-in services. The negative experience with the phone communication when trying to resolve the missing item suggests potential issues with their phone order handling and customer service protocols. The lack of a satisfactory resolution for a significant order error is a major concern regarding their service quality.
In terms of features, Young Chow Cafe's primary feature is its dual offering of Chinese and Thai cuisine, aiming to cater to a broader range of preferences. However, the negative reviews cast doubt on the quality and authenticity of at least some of their Thai dishes. The expectation of receiving what was ordered (shrimp fried rice with shrimp) is a basic feature of any restaurant service, and the failure to meet this expectation, coupled with poor handling of the complaint, is a significant drawback.
There is no promotional information available in the provided text. The reviews focus entirely on negative experiences related to food quality and customer service, with no mention of any special offers, discounts, or promotions that Young Chow Cafe might be running. To learn about any potential promotions, customers would need to check their website (if they have one), social media, or contact the restaurant directly.
In conclusion, the recent customer reviews for Young Chow Cafe Chinese and Thai Restaurant in Haymarket, VA, paint a concerning picture. Issues with missing items in orders, poor food quality across multiple dishes (including both Chinese and Thai selections), and unsatisfactory customer service when attempting to resolve problems are significant red flags. Potential local users should be aware of these recent experiences when considering ordering from or visiting Young Chow Cafe. While the restaurant aims to offer a combination of Chinese and Thai cuisine, the reported shortcomings in food preparation and customer service may lead many to consider alternative dining options in the Haymarket area.

Customer Reviews
I recently ordered over $60 worth of food from Young Chow Cafe, expecting a great meal that included shrimp fried rice. However, as soon as I opened the food, I noticed something was very wrong there was absolutely no shrimp in the so-called "shrimp fried rice." I called the restaurant immediately to resolve the issue. At first, a non-English speaking lady answered the phone and remained silent, offering no help. Then, a man took over the call and, shockingly, his response was "What do you want me to do?" It was dismissive and frustrating. Instead of correcting their mistake, they acted as if it wasn’t their problem. This kind of service is completely unacceptable, and it feels like the restaurant is stealing from its customers. If you're thinking about ordering from here, BEWARE! This experience left a very bad taste in my mouth - both figuratively and literally. Save yourself the hassle and take your business elsewhere.
I really wanted to like this place. I ordered Crab Rangoon, Beef on a Stick, Fried Wontons, Chicken Pad Thai, and Combination Fried Rice and unfortunately I didn’t enjoy any of it. I tried to make it work and eat what I could but the fried wontons were so hard and empty (see photos below), the Rangoon was okay. And I have to say after working in a Thai restaurant myself for 2 years, this was NOT pad Thai at all. Pad Thai is supposed to have a sweet taste and this was very plain. $59 dollars down the drain, I hope the lady enjoys her $5 tip because I didn’t enjoy any of the food :(
Surprisingly good for a little Chinese-Thai restaurant in a strip mall. We had stopped at Haymarket, VA to charge up my car's battery, and we decided to have dinner. Google Maps suggested the Young Chow Cafe. It had good reviews, and the reviews were well deserved. The space was clean and neat. The decor was basic but pleasant. The menu gave plenty of choices. I had my usual Chinese meal, house chow mein. It was delicious. My wife and daughter both enjoyed their meals. If you're in Haymarket, VA around mealtime and if you like Chinese or Thai cuisine, Young Chow Cafe is fine. I recommend it.
Carry-out of Szechuan beef and kung pao chicken were very good and plentiful last week. This weekend we purchased 2 orders of shrimp pad thai and soup ($38) and it was so disappointing. It is all noodles, 4 shrimp, a teaspoon of peanuts, no scallions, no bean sprouts, nothing. Just a big bowl of noodles and what tastes like the same sauce that goes in drunken noodles. For the money, it was disappointing. We had hoped we found our Asian food carry-out place.
Over the past several months Young Chow Cafe food has improved. Unfortunately, tonight, it reversed. The food was so salty, we couldn't eat it, & the ribs were terrible, dried up and burnt like 2 days ago meat! Yuk!
