YongChuan offers a unique culinary experience, specializing in authentic Ningbo cuisine, a regional Chinese style. Customers have consistently praised the heartwarming and nostalgic flavors that evoke a sense of home and tradition. One reviewer recounted a special Valentine's Day dinner for a group, where the owner thoughtfully prepared special hometown dishes, resulting in a memorable and delicious evening.
A standout offering is the complimentary air-dried eel from Zhoushan, a traditional New Year's delicacy in Ningbo, noted for its perfectly balanced flavor and ocean-cured aroma that triggers fond memories. Other highly praised Ningbo dishes include the incredibly soft and smooth taro stew, the familiar-tasting marinated clams and pickled Ningbo vegetables that evoke childhood memories, and "bu gua" (a local Ningbo squash) cooked in a comforting, savory style reminiscent of home-cooked meals.
The steamed egg with pork patty is highlighted as a soft, rich, and comforting childhood favorite. For those missing traditional flavors, the "Eighteen Cuts" dish with stir-fried eel shreds and the home-style wild yellow croaker are particularly recommended.
Beyond the authentic Ningbo cuisine, YongChuan also boasts a "cozy, elegant atmosphere" with "great music" at a conversational volume. The ambiance is described as both modern and cozy, making it suitable for casual dining or special occasions. The owner is consistently mentioned as kind and welcoming, and the service is described as attentive and thoughtful, contributing to an overall experience that feels like a "quiet night in Ningbo."
In addition to their Ningbo specialties, YongChuan also serves a highly acclaimed Peking duck, with one customer stating it had "nice crispy skin, tender and juicy meat" and was "easily one of the best I’ve had in the city."
For local users seeking a Chinese Restaurant that offers both a taste of authentic and heartwarming Ningbo flavors and exceptional Peking duck in a welcoming and elegant setting, YongChuan on Clinton Street is highly recommended as a "hidden gem."

Customer Reviews
Finally had a chance to write this review. It was a special occasion—Valentine’s Day. I called the restaurant ahead of time to arrange a dinner for a group of 12, hoping to share a taste of authentic Ningbo cuisine with my friends. A big thank you to the owner for the warm welcome and for thoughtfully preparing a few special hometown dishes. It turned out to be a heartwarming and delicious evening we won’t forget. Had a truly heartwarming dinner featuring Ningbo cuisine from the chef’s special menu — even my appetite seemed to speak with a hometown accent. The biggest surprise was the complimentary air-dried eel from Zhoushan — a must-have New Year’s delicacy in Ningbo, found on almost every family’s holiday table. The flavor was perfectly balanced — not too salty, with a deep, ocean-cured aroma that brought back so many memories with the very first bite. I forgot to snap a photo of the taro stew, but the texture was incredibly soft and smooth. It was lighter than the version I remember from childhood, but still carried that same familiar essence — like a dish lovingly prepared by someone who knows you well. The marinated clams and pickled Ningbo vegetables stirred something deep in me. The taste was so familiar — like the comforting scent from my grandmother’s kitchen, or the little appetizer dishes my mom used to bring out on hot summer days. It instantly awakened childhood memories I didn’t know I still held onto. Then there was bu gua (a Ningbo dialect name — I honestly don’t know the Mandarin spelling, but locals will understand!). It’s the taste of home. My grandma used to cook it in soups or stir-fry it with eggs. That gentle, savory flavor always felt like her warm embrace — calming and safe. Steamed egg with pork patty — a childhood favorite we always mixed into our rice. So soft, rich, and comforting, every bite felt like a small reward just for you. The “Eighteen Cuts” dish with stir-fried eel shreds and the home-style wild yellow croaker made up for all the traditional flavors I missed during last year’s trip back to China. By the end of the meal, I realized how much emotion is tied to taste. It wasn’t about indulgence — it was about memory, family, and the feeling of being cared for. Also worth mentioning — the restaurant had a cozy, elegant atmosphere. The owner was kind and welcoming, and the service was attentive and thoughtful. The whole experience felt just like a quiet night in Ningbo — a soft light, a warm table, and the comforting taste of home. Would definitely come back — this place is a hidden gem for anyone craving authentic Ningbo flavors far from home. Highly recommended if you’re looking for food that warms both your stomach and your heart.
Absolutely loved this place! The vibe is awesome, it has great music, but not too loud, so it’s perfect for having a conversation. The atmosphere feels both modern and cozy, making it a great spot for a casual dinner or a special night out. My favorite dish was the Peking duck, it was incredible! Nice crispy skin, tender and juicy meat. Easily one of the best I’ve had in the city. Everything else was so great too. I’m excited to come back soon!
Food is not bad but definitely not good enough for me to come back. For the price, it's okay. $29 ayce before tax and tip. That's not much more than what I'd spend eating with a group at a regular dim sum parlor in Chinatown. They are missing some dim sum staples however such as rice rolls with beef or shrimp. The food they do serve is certainly not bad but definitely not as good quality as some of the Chinatown staples. Service is okay; it took us some time to flag down a waiter to take our order each time we wanted to order more. Especially when there is a seating time limit, you want to be able to order as soon as possible. Atmosphere itself is very nice and cozy. Only one single bathroom for the entire restaurant however.
AYCE dim sum is a fantastic deal at $29 per person, but there’s a catch - you can only order up to five dishes at a time. Most of the savory dishes come in sets of three, which was a bit tricky to share with four people without cutting through pieces with chopsticks. The brunch service was a bit slow, as the servers were constantly running around between tables to take new orders and bring out dishes. I suggest having an ordering pad at each table to speed things up. Overall, the food was delicious, and I’d definitely go back for the AYCE deal!
one of the best Chinese restaurants. it has authentic dishes with special twist of Ningbo flavor. and the dessert of soy milk ice cream is so innovative and delicious!
