About Yin Ji Chang Fen 銀記腸粉 (Downtown)

Yin Ji Chang Fen 銀記腸粉 (Downtown), located at 369 Spadina Ave. in Toronto, is a Chinese restaurant that has become a favorite for those seeking a hearty and affordable meal. This establishment is particularly known for its signature rice rolls, also called Chang Fen.

Customers consistently praise the thinness of the rice rolls, which are generously filled with various stuffings. These rice rolls are a highly recommended item and a reason many patrons return to the restaurant.

Beyond the rice rolls, Yin Ji Chang Fen also offers congee and other tasty options. Reviews mention the deliciousness of the food in general, with specific highlights including the durian balls, truffle rice rolls, and Chinese donuts. The staff is noted for being friendly, and the restaurant opens relatively early.

One minor point of feedback concerns the congee, which some connoisseurs might find less traditional as it tends to become watery if left for a while due to the use of starch as a thickening agent. However, this did not bother all customers.

If you are looking for a Chinese restaurant in downtown Toronto that offers cheap and cheerful food, especially thin and flavorful rice rolls, Yin Ji Chang Fen 銀記腸粉 (Downtown) is a highly recommended spot. It's ideal for a satisfying carb-centric meal that is also budget-friendly.

My favorite spot for a hearty carb meal that also doesn't break the bank. I came here on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm and it was able to get a spot for 2. We shared 2 rice rolls and a bowl of congee. The rice rolls were super thin and filled with stuffing. Highly recommend and would come back.

Friendly staff, opens really early. Food is cheap and cheerful, tasted good in general. Tried alot of stuff and everything was tasty, I like the durian balls and truffle rice rolls, the chinese donuts were good too. Only complaint is the congee was thickened with starch so if you leave it for a while it turns watery. It didn't bother me but I know the connesiurs will hate it

December 2024 We were excited to find this restaurant in Richmond, BC. Indeed a local gem and definitely great hype in the offering. Personalize and attentive service. Food may take a little long but worth the wait. Freshly cooked and prepared Hong Kong congee and very flavorful. The awards on the wall speak it all. Well deserved recognition. My rating as 5 is very satisfied Taste 5/5 Temperature 5/5 Speed of service 4/5 Attentive and courteous 5/5 Cleanliness 5/5 outstanding for an Asian restaurant Recommend highly and love to revisit soon.

Definitely the hole in the wall chinese place you go to for great food, average service and terrible decor. Their food was very well cooked and probably the best rice rolls I've had. Everything about this place spells comfort food at its best.

Yin Ji Chang Fen in Markham offers a slice of traditional Cantonese cuisine, with its signature rice noodle rolls and congee drawing a loyal crowd, including my cousin, who swears by this place. While I can appreciate the care that goes into their delicate preparation, I found the dishes a bit too subtle for my palate. Growing up in the Philippines, I’ve always associated Chinese food with bold, vibrant flavors—a contrast to the lighter, understated approach here. The rice noodle rolls were undeniably well-made, with their silky, smooth texture and a drizzle of soy-based sauce that added just a hint of sweetness. I tried a variety of fillings, including shrimp, corn, and mushroom, but the overall flavor profile leaned too mild for my liking. The congee was creamy and comforting, topped with fresh greens, but it lacked the rich, savory depth I’m used to back home, where congee often comes loaded with flavorful toppings and aromatic spices. In the Philippines, Chinese cuisine has been deeply integrated into local tastes, often leaning toward bold seasoning and umami-rich sauces. It’s a fusion that brings out the best of both worlds—flavor-packed and satisfying. By comparison, the dishes at Yin Ji felt like they were missing that extra oomph. That said, if you enjoy subtle, authentic Cantonese cooking that highlights the natural flavors of its ingredients, Yin Ji Chang Fen might just be your kind of place. While it didn’t quite resonate with my flavor preferences, I can see why it holds a special place for fans of this style of cuisine.
