One reviewer described their experience as enjoying "good authentic Chinese food at a reasonable price." This customer specifically highlighted the proximity of the restaurant to their hotel, which prompted their visit. They noted that Yin Ji Chang Fen did not seem like the typical "cheap Chinese" establishment, suggesting a focus on quality and authenticity. Their order included the beef rice noodle roll and a shrimp wonton noodle soup. While they found the noodle soup to be "okay" but "a bit bland," they highly praised the beef rice noodle roll. According to this review, the beef was not only accompanied by the sauce typically served with the roll but was also marinated and "nicely seasoned," indicating a depth of flavor preparation. The reviewer also commented positively on the service, noting that it was "quick for ordering and for the food delivery." Their overall impression was favorable, stating that they would "definitely come back" if they were in the area again.
Another customer also mentioned the "quick service" as a positive aspect of their experience. They sampled the porridge, also known as jook or congee, and found it to be good but suggested it "could use a little more flavor." This indicates that while the base of the dish was satisfactory, a slight enhancement in seasoning might improve it further for their palate. They also tried the rice noodle with marinated shrimp and beef, noting that the taste was good. However, they observed that the noodles tended to "fall apart," which could be a point of consideration for future orders. Interestingly, this reviewer mentioned that their children enjoyed the wonton mien, suggesting that the restaurant offers dishes that appeal to a younger audience as well. Overall, they found Yin Ji Chang Fen to be a "good value" and offering "decent Chinese food."
Based on these reviews, Yin Ji Chang Fen - Berkeley seems to specialize in classic Cantonese dishes, with the rice noodle rolls standing out as a particularly well-received item. The use of marinated ingredients suggests an effort to enhance the flavor profiles of their dishes. Customer Reviews
Good authentic Chinese food at a reasonable price. This place was very close to the hotel I was staying at and seeing that it was not the usual cheap Chinese, I decided to try it out. I ordered the beef rice noodle roll and a shrimp wonton noodle soup. The noodle soup was okay. I enjoyed it but it was a bit bland. The beef rice noodle roll was very good. In addition to the sauce on the roll, the beef was also marinated and nicely seasoned. Service was quick for ordering and for the food delivery. If I was in the area again, I would definitely come back.
Quick service. Porridge (jook) is good but could use a little more flavor. Rice noodle and marinated shrimp and beef taste good but noodles did fall apart. Kids love won ton mien. Good value and decent Chinese food.
Delicious. Service was fast. Meat was flavorful and tender. Rice noodle was a hair too soft for my taste- some of it was the right amount of chewy but other parts were soft. The sauce is the perfect balance of sweet, salty, and umami.
Food here was good. I liked the dough stick rice noodle roll and boiled vegetables. However the flavors are all very similar, maybe because they all used the same sauce or similar sauce. I hope they have more varieties. I felt the food was a bit overpriced (more expansive than dim sum place on average). One bonus point though, we were with our dog and they let us sit outside. Not many dim sum or noodle places allow you to bring dog so wanted to be supportive for them!
Chang fen and porridge were great! As someone from Guangzhou, I have high standards for congee. Their pork liver congee is very tasty! The dishes are perfect for a mild cold.
