About YGF Malatang

Welcome to YGF Malatang, a Chinese restaurant located within the Serramonte Center at 72b Serramonte Center, Daly City, CA 94015, USA. As a unique addition to the local Chinese culinary scene, YGF Malatang specializes in malatang, a popular and customizable soup-based dish originating from Sichuan, China. Situated within a shopping mall environment, YGF Malatang offers a convenient and flavorful dining option for shoppers and local residents alike.

Based on recent customer reviews, YGF Malatang has quickly garnered positive attention for its delicious and fragrant broth. One enthusiastic customer expressed that they "enjoyed this malatang!!!" and found the broth to be exceptionally flavorful, even preferring it over another malatang establishment in the Stonestown area. This strong endorsement highlights the quality and taste of YGF Malatang's signature broth, which is the foundation of the malatang experience.

Malatang is characterized by its customizable nature, allowing diners to select their preferred ingredients, which are then cooked in a rich and spicy broth. While one reviewer noted that the item selection at YGF Malatang is "smaller" compared to another establishment, they also mentioned that it includes "most of the things I want," indicating a satisfying variety of options. This suggests that while the selection might not be exhaustive, it likely covers the essential and popular ingredients for a fulfilling malatang meal. The reviewer also made a specific request for fried bean curd roll to be added to the selection, showing their satisfaction with the existing choices and a desire for even more variety.

Convenience is another factor contributing to YGF Malatang's appeal. The same reviewer appreciated that it is "closer to my house!" highlighting its accessibility for local residents in Daly City. They described their experience as "delicious and fast," indicating that YGF Malatang provides both quality and efficiency, even within a mall setting where quick service is often desired.

Another customer provided a balanced review, acknowledging that for "mall food," YGF Malatang is "really solid" and even "great." This suggests that it surpasses typical expectations for food court or mall-based eateries. They did note that it is "a little bit on the expensive side," but they also reasoned that the quality justifies the price, stating, "you do get what you pay for so definitely reasonable." This indicates that while it might not be the cheapest option, the value derived from the quality of ingredients and preparation makes it worthwhile.

The freshness of the ingredients was specifically mentioned, with the reviewer stating, "Ingredients are fresh." This is a crucial aspect of any malatang experience, as the quality of the individual components significantly impacts the overall taste and enjoyment of the dish. The reviewer also found the "selection is actually very solid despite looking like a small location," further reinforcing the idea that YGF Malatang offers a good range of choices despite its potentially compact size within the mall.

Positive interactions with the staff were also noted, with the reviewer describing the "workers are nice there." Friendly service can enhance the overall dining experience, making customers feel more welcome and satisfied.

One aspect of dining at YGF Malatang in a mall setting is the preparation time. The reviewer pointed out that "it does take awhile for mall food though, since they cook it to order." This is a characteristic of freshly prepared malatang, where each bowl is customized and cooked individually. To mitigate any perceived wait time, the reviewer humorously suggested an optimal strategy: "in a perfect world you’d order then go to Dick’s to pick something up and go back for your food." This practical tip acknowledges the preparation time while still recommending the food quality.

Despite the slight wait, the reviewer concluded with a strong recommendation, giving YGF Malatang a "very solid four stars and probably 4.5 if that was an option." This high rating underscores the overall positive impression of the food quality, ingredient freshness, and service.

This convenient location makes it a great option for a flavorful and customizable meal while running errands or enjoying a day at the mall.

As a Chinese restaurant specializing in malatang, YGF Malatang offers a unique dining experience compared to traditional Cantonese or other regional Chinese cuisines commonly found. The core concept of malatang involves selecting from a variety of ingredients such as vegetables, meats, seafood, tofu, and noodles, which are then cooked in a flavorful and often spicy broth. The broth itself can often be customized in terms of spice level, catering to individual preferences.

Given its location within a mall, the environment of YGF Malatang is likely more casual and focused on efficiency. While specific details about seating and ambiance are not provided in the reviews, one can expect a functional and clean space designed for quick and convenient dining. The primary focus appears to be on the quality and flavor of the malatang itself.

In terms of services, YGF Malatang likely operates on a model where customers select their ingredients, choose their broth (and spice level, if applicable), and then the dish is prepared to order. Takeout service is also likely available, catering to those who prefer to enjoy their malatang elsewhere. As it's located in a mall, delivery services might also be an option through third-party platforms, though this is not explicitly mentioned in the reviews.

Promotional information is not included in the provided reviews. However, as a restaurant within a shopping center, YGF Malatang might occasionally offer promotions or special deals, particularly during mall-wide events or holidays. Local users interested in potential discounts or offers are advised to check with the restaurant directly or look for any promotional materials within the Serramonte Center.

In conclusion, YGF Malatang in Serramonte Center, Daly City, offers a delicious and customizable malatang experience that has impressed local diners. With its flavorful broths, fresh ingredients, and friendly service, it stands out as a solid dining option within the mall environment. While it might be slightly pricier than typical mall food, the quality and generous portions seem to justify the cost. If you're in the Daly City area and looking for a unique and satisfying Chinese soup dish, YGF Malatang is definitely worth a visit.

I enjoyed this malatang!!! The broth is so flavorful and fragrant. I like it more than Tang Bar in Stonestown. Even though the item selection is smaller, it has most of the things I want (but my favorite is fried bean curd roll, please consider adding that to your selection). And bonus, it’s closer to my house! Delicious and fast. Give it a try!

Really solid-for mall food, this is great. A little bit on the expensive side, but you do get what you pay for so definitely reasonable. Ingredients are fresh, selection is actually very solid despite looking like a small location, and workers are nice there. It does take awhile for mall food though, since they cook it to order-in a perfect world you’d order then go to Dick’s to pick something up and go back for your food. Still, a very solid four stars and probably 4.5 if that was an option.

Super good service, they even helped explain what some of the items were, which you don't expect at a self serve place. They also cooked everything perfectly, which makes sense since I think they have really good processes as a chain. 10/10 would recommend!

The food is pretty good, and its always fun when you can pick your own ingredients. The only reason I didn't give it a full five stars for "food" is because there are only 2 different flavors for the soup that gets added to your chosen ingredients, and both of those are a little spicy for my comfort. If you like spicy soup, this place will be your jam!

04.19.2025. You pick your ingredients and then choose a soup broth. It's 14.99 per pound. We got the beef bone broth base. Sadly, this missed the mark. Even though we got hot (the highest spice level) it wasn't hot at all. There was the slightest hint of spice and absolutely no ma la taste. We only came here because we wanted malatang, so without the ma la taste it was just soup. Soup was okay. I don't think I would come back because it just wasn't what I was looking for. Also, the variety of ingredients is a little small. For meats, there was only beef, lamb, pork, chicken, and fish. One of each, no different cuts. Understandable because it was a small place in the mall.
