About Yen Ching Henrico

Yen Ching Henrico is a Chinese restaurant located at 9031-5 West Broad Street within the West Broad Commons Shopping Center in Richmond, Virginia. Serving the local community and visitors alike, Yen Ching Henrico has garnered attention for its distinctive interior, friendly service, and a selection of highly-rated Chinese dishes. Based on recent customer reviews available online, this detailed introduction aims to provide local users with a comprehensive understanding of what Yen Ching Henrico offers, covering aspects such as its environment, services, and the standout features of its cuisine.

Upon entering Yen Ching Henrico, customers are often struck by the restaurant's unique décor. One reviewer described the interior as "kinda cool" and the decoration as "very unique," suggesting an ambiance that sets it apart from typical Chinese restaurants. This distinctive environment contributes to the overall dining experience, making it a potentially interesting spot for those seeking more than just a meal. Another traveler who opted for pickup expressed regret at not dining in after seeing the "lovely" interior, highlighting "great lighting, decor, and a water feature!" This vivid description paints a picture of an aesthetically pleasing space that could be well-suited for various occasions, including special celebrations.

The service at Yen Ching Henrico is consistently mentioned as friendly. One customer noted that the "staff were friendly," which contributes positively to the overall dining experience. Welcoming and attentive service can enhance the enjoyment of the meal and make guests feel comfortable.

A standout feature of Yen Ching Henrico is its diverse menu, with several dishes receiving high praise from customers. One reviewer who tried the pupu platter provided a detailed breakdown of its components. The platter includes Rangoon, shrimp toast, egg rolls, chicken wings, beef on a stick, and short ribs. While the wings and Rangoon were described as "ehh," the shrimp toast "lived up to its ratings" and was considered "great." The short ribs were deemed "excellent," and the egg rolls were noted for being "very fresh and tasty." This detailed feedback suggests that while some items may be average, others are exceptional and worth trying.

The General's Chicken at Yen Ching Henrico is another dish that receives high accolades. One reviewer stated it was "fantastic" and "probably the best I’ve had since living in Virginia." This strong endorsement suggests that their preparation of this popular dish is a significant draw for many customers. It's important to note that the standard preparation includes dark meat chicken, but customers can opt for white meat for an additional charge, which one reviewer found "worth it." This willingness to accommodate preferences is a notable aspect of their service.

However, not all aspects of the meal received universal praise. The fried rice side that came with the General's Chicken was a point of disappointment for one reviewer, who noted that the "rice tasted a bit old and the texture was definitely off." This indicates a potential inconsistency in the preparation of side dishes.

The pork Lo Mein was generally well-received, with one customer finding it "very enjoyable." However, they suggested ordering it without mushrooms in the future, as they felt the mushrooms, possibly canned rather than fresh, detracted from some bites. This level of detail in feedback can be valuable for other diners with similar preferences.

Interestingly, another traveler raved about the "best fried rice that I've ever had." This stark contrast to the previous reviewer's experience with the fried rice highlights potential variations or perhaps different preparations depending on the dish ordered. This same reviewer also lauded the rangoons as "spectacular" and prepared to their preference, with an ideal ratio of filling to wrapper.

In terms of services, Yen Ching Henrico offers both dine-in and pickup options, as indicated by the reviews. The traveler who picked up their order wished they had dined in after seeing the interior, suggesting that the ambiance is a significant part of the Yen Ching experience. The positive comments about the friendly staff indicate a commitment to good customer service, whether dining in or taking food to go.

The rave reviews about the fried rice and rangoons from one traveler further add to its appeal. While there have been some mixed reviews regarding the fried rice as a side and the mushrooms in the Lo Mein, the overall sentiment suggests that Yen Ching Henrico is a restaurant worth trying.

The pupu platter offers a good way to sample a variety of appetizers, with the shrimp toast, short ribs, and egg rolls standing out. The General's Chicken, especially with the white meat upgrade, seems to be a must-try based on the feedback. The lovely interior, including the lighting, decor, and water feature, makes it an attractive spot for dining in, potentially for special occasions as well. The efficient service for pickup is also a plus for those preferring to enjoy their meal at home.

Tried this place because of the reviews, have to say was not disappointed with what we ordered. Restaurant is kinda cool inside, the deco if very unique. So we started with the pupu platter because we wanted to try both the Rangoon, shrimp toast which was highly rated and the eggrolls. It also came with chicken wings and some beef on stick as well as short ribs. Wings were ehh as well as the Rangoon. Shrimp toast was great and lived up to its ratings, the short ribs were excellent and the egg rolls tasted very fresh and tasty as well. We shared the generals chicken again based on reviews, it was fantastic.. probably the best of I’ve had since living in Virginia. Be aware that as ordered it is not white meat but we opted for white meat which was $1 up charge but it was worth it! Super tasty! Disappointed in the fried rice side that came with it, the rice tasted a bit old and the texture was definitely off. Lastly the pork Lo Mein.. it was also very enjoyable however I would get it without mushrooms next time it kinda threw off some bites and I feel like it was canned mushrooms vs fresh. All in all I would definitely recommend a stop, staff were friendly food was filling and very tasty. We will come again.

WOW!!! I am traveling and so lucky I found this gem of a place. They have the best fried rice that I've ever had. Their rangoons were also spectacular and prepared my favorite way-- with the best ratio of filing to wrapper!! I got food for pickup, but as soon as I saw how lovely the interior is (great lighting, decor, and a water feature!) I wish I had dined in!! I could see it being a great spot for special occaisons. I wish I had something of this caliber near where I live. I will cherish the memory and look forward to my next visit, whenever that may be!

Went here on Easter! The staff was very friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was very peaceful with warm colors. I got the Crispy Honey Shrimp which was probably the best dish at the table! My sister thought her Shrimp Chow Mein was okay, but not enough flavor. A big shoutout to the Hot & Sour soup! It was so good and helped clear out my sinuses! My mom got some type of beef dish with PERFECTLY cooked asparagus. My dad ordered a decked out dish with 3 different meats. He thoroughly enjoyed it. Good portions! We had to take a bunch home with us.

Overall, the atmosphere was excellent here. We went on a Sunday at 11:30 am. We were seated right away by a very friendly host. The waitress arrived quickly with water. Our drinks took about 5 minutes to arrive and our food arrived quickly after that. The restaurant crowd built quickly. There were 2 servers and the host so it seemed a bit busy for them. Our food arrived and was plated nicely. The temperature was warm, but not hot. The flavors were very good. The chicken was cooked well, but the veggies were under done, but I can look past the crunchy onions, carrots, a green peppers. Overall, nice place and flavorful food, a tad under staffed and rushed. Very reasonable price for the amount of food. We will come here again.

Had a terrible meal here Saturday night. When I complained to the manager that my Peking duck was cold and dry, he replied, “that’s how we do it here.” There was no offer to replace the dish or anything else to fix the situation. My other orders were also bad: the pork dish I ordered was wrong, and the crab and asparagus soup was watery and bland, full of overcooked, limp asparagus and no crab. This restaurant used to be great, but the decor is tired, the management rude and the food terrible. There are too many great restaurants in Richmond to go here. Don’t waste your money.
