As a Chinese restaurant in the San Jose area, Yen Ching aims to provide a range of familiar Chinese flavors to its customers. Based on recent online reviews, experiences appear to be somewhat mixed, with some customers highlighting positive aspects while others express concerns about certain areas of their dining experience.
One customer, while noting the quick service with food arriving within 5-10 minutes and an initially appealing aroma, had a somewhat critical overall impression. This reviewer found the fried rice to be "okay" and identified the broccoli beef as a standout dish, describing it as the "star of the plate." However, the same review was quite negative about the egg roll, stating that its exterior tasted of old oil and the filling lacked any discernible flavor. This customer concluded that while their experience was "okay," they would not be inclined to return, also mentioning an initial impression of the place being "dirty upon entering." This suggests that while some dishes might be satisfactory, there could be inconsistencies in food quality and potential issues with the cleanliness of the establishment.
In contrast, another customer shared a more positive first-time experience at Yen Ching. This reviewer found the food to be "good" and appreciated the "very quaint and small" dine-in seating area. They also specifically praised the customer service, highlighting the owner as "very nice and courteous" when serving their food. The only minor criticism mentioned was that the portion size of the walnut shrimp was "a bit small." Despite this, the reviewer concluded that the good food and excellent service compensated for the smaller portion. This feedback indicates that Yen Ching may offer a pleasant dining experience with attentive service, particularly when interacting with the owner.
Considering these two recent reviews, it appears that Yen Ching Chinese Food offers a somewhat varied experience for its customers. The service, particularly from the owner, seems to be a notable positive aspect, contributing to a courteous and welcoming atmosphere for dine-in customers. The dine-in setting is described as quaint and small, which might appeal to those looking for a more intimate dining environment. In terms of food, the broccoli beef appears to be a recommended dish, while the fried rice is considered average. However, there are concerns regarding the quality of certain items like the egg rolls, and a potential issue with the cleanliness of the restaurant was also raised. Additionally, portion sizes, such as the walnut shrimp, might be perceived as small by some customers.
As a local Chinese restaurant, Yen Ching is positioned to serve residents and visitors in the Seven Trees Blvd area of San Jose. The availability of both a landline and a mobile phone number facilitates easy ordering for takeout or making inquiries. The quick service reported by one customer suggests that Yen Ching might be a convenient option for those seeking a fast meal. However, potential customers might want to consider the mixed feedback regarding food quality and cleanliness when making their decision.
There is no information available in the provided text regarding any specific features of the restaurant, such as its decor, ambiance (beyond "quaint and small" seating), or any unique selling points. In summary, Yen Ching Chinese Food in San Jose offers a local option for Chinese cuisine with both dine-in and takeout services. However, there are also concerns raised about the cleanliness of the establishment and the quality of certain food items, such as the egg rolls, as well as potential issues with portion sizes. However, it would be prudent to weigh the mixed reviews regarding food quality and cleanliness when considering dining at or ordering from Yen Ching Chinese Food.

I don't see how this place has 4 stars. The place is dirty upon entering. I ordered my food. I receive dit in 5-10 minutes. It smelled good. We'll the fried rice was okay, the brocolli beef was the star of the plate. The egg roll was not good. The exterior taste like old oil and you can't taste anything of the inside. I wouldn't ever go back but it wa okay I guess...
First time coming to this establishment I have to say the food is good, the dine in seating is very quaint and small. I also love the customer service. The owner was very nice and courteous when serving our food. My only small complaint was that the portions for the walnut shrimp was a bit small. Nonetheless the food and great service made up for it...
Love this place. It is close by the drive in, food is delicious and made fresh and the lady is so sweet. Highly recommended!
11/24/23 @1pm. Local neighborhood Chinese restaurant fast food cooked fresh to your taste. The owners know the regulars by name. Well worth the wait to get freshly cooked.
Hole in the wall family run to-go place that serves real American Chinese food and anchored well in the locale. The beef chow fun had the prerequisite wok hei. The salt-pepper fish fillet is well seasoned. Of course, we tried the egg fuyong and chop suey. Egg fuyong is done well. The chop suey is better and more tasty than the historical one in SLO's oldest Chinese food place. Portions are huge and price is good. Worth a revisit.
