About Yan Wu House Chop Suey

Located at 5970 Delmar Blvd in St. Louis, MO 63112, USA, **Yan Wu House Chop Suey** is a Chinese restaurant that has been a long-standing fixture in the local culinary scene. With its roots deeply embedded in the community, this establishment offers a glimpse into the traditional American Chinese dining experience, a style of cuisine that often evokes a sense of nostalgia for many.

For those seeking a taste of classic Chinese-American dishes, Yan Wu House Chop Suey presents itself as a viable option. The restaurant operates primarily as a carry-out establishment, a common format for many long-standing Chinese eateries of its kind. While detailed information about the interior dining environment is not extensively available through public reviews, the emphasis on carry-out suggests a focus on efficient service for customers taking their meals to go. Patrons can reach the restaurant for orders and inquiries at (314) 727-1917 or via mobile at +1 314-727-1917.

One of the defining characteristics of Yan Wu House Chop Suey, as highlighted by customer feedback, is its adherence to **"old school American Chinese" cuisine**. This style often features dishes that are familiar and comforting, tailored to American palates while retaining core Chinese flavors and techniques. A standout item, frequently praised by customers, is their **fried rice**. One review specifically notes, "Fried rice is spot on, old school American Chinese," indicating that this particular dish is a crowd-pleaser and a reliable choice for those visiting. Beyond fried rice, one can anticipate a menu that likely includes other popular American Chinese staples such as chop suey, lo mein, egg rolls, and various chicken, beef, and pork dishes, typically served with a choice of rice.

When it comes to service, customer experiences at Yan Wu House Chop Suey appear to be varied, reflecting the diverse interactions that can occur in any long-standing establishment. Some feedback points to a direct and perhaps less conventional customer service approach. One customer shared an experience involving a stern tone on the phone and during pick-up when requesting sweet and sour sauce. This review suggests that the establishment's interactions might be more transactional and less focused on the contemporary customer service expectations of warmth and effusiveness. It’s worth noting that the individual mentioned that the person on the phone had been there for years, suggesting a long-standing presence in the business. This kind of interaction, while not universally preferred, can sometimes be part of the character of a long-established, family-run, or independently owned business.

In terms of payment options, it has been noted that there may be an additional charge for using a debit card, with one customer mentioning an extra dollar fee. This is a detail that potential customers should be aware of, as it can influence their payment method choice. It is advisable to have cash on hand or be prepared for this additional charge if opting for card payment.

Promotional information for Yan Wu House Chop Suey is not widely available through public reviews or standard online business listings. As a traditional, likely family-run establishment, their marketing approach may rely more on word-of-mouth and repeat patronage rather than extensive promotional campaigns. However, the consistent mention of their "spot on" fried rice serves as an organic form of promotion, drawing customers who appreciate authentic American Chinese flavors. For specific promotions or daily specials, it would be best for potential customers to inquire directly with the restaurant via phone.

In summary, Yan Wu House Chop Suey offers a quintessential "old school" American Chinese food experience in St. Louis. While the service style may lean towards the direct, the restaurant's longevity and reputation for dishes like their fried rice suggest a strong foundation of flavorful, comforting food. It's a place for those who appreciate traditional carry-out Chinese fare and are looking for a taste of a long-standing local institution. Customers should be prepared for a no-frills approach to service and be mindful of potential debit card fees when planning their visit to this St. Louis Chinese restaurant.

I called in my order and the man on the phone yelled at me I know he’s older because my mother used to come here all the time. He has been here for years, had a wife with him maybe? I came to pick up my food and he yelled at me for asking for sweet & sour sauce. Geessh! What happened to customer service? I already had to pay an extra dollar for using a debit card. The food wasn’t even worth it

I Personally Really Like Their Rice, I Never Order Anything Besides Rice & Crab Rangoon Which Is Also Good. I Will Say Though, They Are Rude ! I’ve Been Hung Up On Before Because Of How Impatient They Are. The Old Man Is Always Coughing Everywhere & Will Do It With The Intercom On! They Charge For Everything ! They Charge 1.00-1.50 To Use Card Then No Matter How Much Food You Order He Gives Only 1 Red Pepper, 2 Soy Sauces & 2 Sweet & Sour. You Will Be Charged For Any & Everything After That. & After Reading These Reviews About Them Spitting In People’s Food I Think I’ll Be Looking For Somewhere Else To Get My Rice. It’s Sad Cause I Really Love They Rice. Its Never Greasy, Always Hot, The Rice Itself Is Always Cooked Perfectly & Its Well Seasoned. They Need To Get It Together

It’s truly heartbreaking to see all of the people leaving negative reviews for this restaurant. The owners are kind hearted and hardworking people who have been contributing to St. Louis’ diverse restaurant scene for years- it’s important for hole in the wall family owned restaurants like Yan Wu to exist and continue adding to the social and cultural fabric of the city, as more and more go out of business or are replaced by characterless chains. Please take a second to try and examine why you are so quick to judge a minority owned business and label the owners as “rude” due to communication barriers or assume they are talking about you when they speak in their native language rather than impulsively attempt to put another local restaurant out of business.

PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT EAT HERE!!! Friday Nov.3, 2023, I witnessed the man/owner spitting in my food. I came in, made an order for a whole order of ham fried rice, a combination plate, and an order of wings, I didn’t have enough so I said take the wings off. After a couple of minutes I went to the window to watch and seen him spit in the box he was about to put the rice in. A 1 rating is too high. They should be closed down
