About Yan's Chinese Restaurant & Lounge

Welcome to Yan's Chinese Restaurant & Lounge, a Chinese Restaurant located at 300 Long Ave, Kelso, WA 98626, USA. For local users in Kelso seeking a Chinese dining experience that combines a relaxed atmosphere with a diverse menu, Yan's Chinese Restaurant & Lounge offers a blend of traditional Chinese cuisine and a lounge setting. Based on recent customer reviews, the restaurant provides kind service and a quiet environment, with varying opinions on the food quality across different dishes.

One customer described the service at Yan's as "Kind" and noted the restaurant's "Quiet" ambiance. This suggests that Yan's might be a suitable option for those looking for a peaceful dining atmosphere where they can enjoy their meal without excessive noise or bustle. The same reviewer found the food to be "Okay," indicating a neutral experience that wasn't particularly outstanding but also not negative.

Another reviewer had a more specific experience with the fried rice, noting that it "did not contain one single vegetable, not even the standard green onion." This lack of vegetables in a staple dish like fried rice might be a point of concern for some customers who expect a certain composition for this item. However, this reviewer did find the hot tea to be "delicious," highlighting a positive aspect of their meal. They also mentioned that while the rice had some flavor, it "required soy-sauce to take it to enjoyable," suggesting that the dish might have been somewhat bland on its own.

A different aspect of the dining experience was brought up by another customer who mentioned an issue with cleanliness, specifically noting a "sticky table." They rated the stickiness a "definite 3 1/2" on a scale of 1 to 5, indicating a noticeable level of uncleanliness that detracted from their comfort. Cleanliness of dining surfaces is a fundamental aspect of a positive restaurant experience, and this feedback suggests a potential area for improvement at Yan's.

In contrast to the mixed reviews above, another customer had a highly positive experience with the food. They exclaimed, "Food was excellent!" and specifically praised several dishes. The batter on the chicken was described as "light and tasty," suggesting a well-executed preparation of a chicken dish. The egg roll was deemed "amazing," indicating a standout appetizer. The crab cakes were described as melting "in my mouth," implying a delicious and tender texture. Finally, the pork fried rice was lauded as being "made to perfection," directly contradicting the earlier review about the vegetable-less fried rice. This significant difference in opinion on the same type of dish suggests potential inconsistencies or variations in preparation, or perhaps different expectations and preferences among customers.

Considering these varied reviews, Yan's Chinese Restaurant & Lounge appears to offer a somewhat inconsistent experience in terms of food quality, depending on the dish. The kind service and quiet atmosphere seem to be consistent positives. However, the issue with the sticky table and the report of vegetable-less fried rice are points that potential customers might want to consider.

The fact that the establishment is also a "Lounge" suggests that it might offer a separate area or a combined setting where patrons can enjoy drinks in addition to their meals. This could be a unique feature for those looking for a Chinese restaurant with a bar-like ambiance. However, the reviews provided do not offer any specific details about the lounge aspect, such as the drink menu or the overall atmosphere of that area.

For local users in Kelso, Yan's Chinese Restaurant & Lounge presents a mixed bag of experiences based on the available feedback. The promise of kind service and a quiet environment might be appealing to those seeking a relaxed meal. However, the varying reports on food quality, particularly the fried rice, and the mention of a sticky table indicate that the experience might not be uniformly positive across all aspects. The highly positive review praising specific dishes like the chicken, egg roll, crab cakes, and pork fried rice suggests that there are indeed excellent options on the menu.

To make an informed decision, local users might want to consider trying some of the dishes that received positive feedback, such as the chicken with light and tasty batter, the egg roll, or the crab cakes. Inquiring about the ingredients in dishes like the fried rice when ordering might also be advisable. Additionally, those sensitive to cleanliness might want to pay attention to the condition of their table upon arrival.

Kind service. Quiet restaurant. Okay food. I ordered fried rice and it did not contain one single vegetable, not even the standard green onion. The hot tea was delicious. The rice had some flavor but required soy-sauce to take it to enjoyable. There is something about a sticky table that really bothers me. On a scale of 1-5 stickiness - our table was a definite 3 1/2.

I normally don’t write reviews (at all) but this place really blew me away. Delicious food, big portions, and great prices. So a friend and I came here just before our train ride back to Seattle, and wow do we wish we came here sooner. We ordered the Mongolian Beef, Shrimp Foo Yung, Egg Rolls, and Crab Rangoons. The Mongolian beef was delicious. Visually, the dish had a wonderful pop of color (green/red bell peppers, zucchini, onions, carrots) which was balanced by the glistening dark brown of the beef. When it came to the flavor of the dish, it was delicious. A very hearty flavor and a big portion to match. The Shrimp Foo Yung was just as delicious, covered in a beautiful brown gravy, the Foo Yung itself was very soft and light (I could eat a lot of these). I loved mixing the sauce and rice especially. Together, each bite was so light yet filling. Both the Egg Rolls and Crab Rangoons were delicious. I could honestly get addicted. I loved the way the Crab Rangoons were presented. The Egg Rolls were crispy on the outside with a big amount of filling. By the time I ate some of the Mongolian beef and half a egg roll I was already so full. Everything came out to be around $62 dollars or $31 dollars per person with quite a lot of leftovers. On our train ride back we continued to eat the rest of the food. Overall, this place is a great find offering a plethora of great dishes along side fantastic prices. A 10/10 in my book

Yan's, in Kelso, WA, we tried on a whim on our road trip to Seattle. The weather wasn't good & we were happy to stop. Not many customers but several people came in, some for take out. The hot n sour soup was awesome! My husband had egg foo Yung & i had an appetizer tray which was delicious. Don't know when we'll ever get back that way, but I heartily recommend Yans for great Chinese food!
