Customer reviews for XO Taste present a diverse range of experiences. One reviewer expressed significant disappointment with several dishes, including the steam shrimp dumplings (noting a shrimp purée texture and soft skin), the steam spareribs (describing an awkward flavor possibly due to taro), and the sliced beef rice noodle (which was considered too greasy). The sliced fish congee was the only dish mentioned as being slightly above average by this reviewer. A major point of dissatisfaction was the "mandatory 18% tips" added to the bill, calculated after tax, which led this customer to decide not to return.

Conversely, another customer had a highly positive experience, stating that XO Taste serves the "best pan fried dumplings I ever had anywhere." This reviewer mentioned that they do not order anything else due to the excellence of this particular dish. They also noted that hot tea is provided for free upon being seated.

Based on these reviews, XO Taste appears to have some standout dishes, particularly the pan-fried dumplings, which are highly praised by one customer. However, other dishes have received criticism regarding ingredient quality, preparation, and flavor. Additionally, the restaurant's policy of mandatory tipping calculated after tax is a notable aspect of the dining experience that may be a concern for some customers. No specific details about the restaurant's ambiance or any current promotions are mentioned in these reviews.

Steam shrimp dumping didn’t use the shrimp instead it’s more like ground shrimp/ shrimp purée, the skin was also too soft that wasn’t chewy at all. Steam spareribs were okay except the awkward flavor, unsure if it’s because of the taro Sliced fish congee was the only dish a little above average Sliced beef rice noodle tasted okay but too greasy, you could see the oil floating on top of the soy sauce Last straw made me deciding to never return was the “mandatory 18% tips” already added to the bill when it’s brought to our table and it’s “calculated AFTER TAX”. Cashier explained it’s only “a couple cents difference” so they didn’t change the system as it’s too complicated. I would forgive you for this excuse if you have put 1% more energy to make the food better.

Best pan fried dumplings I ever had anywhere… I don’t order anything else here - no need! But they have great hot tea here also that they bring out for free when you are seated!

Food are great. They hit the mark for being a Hong Kong style. Food come out fast, and quality are not bad. Recommend the baked pork chop rice if you want to try something new

Absolutely HORRIBLE. Food was mediocre, and that’s already giving it some grace. But it was the service that was absolutely horrendous. They charged 18% gratuity AFTER TAX so we asked a waiter with glasses about it and he raised his voice and rudely said in Cantonese, “Are you going to pay? If not, then leave.” (你唄唔唄啊?唔唄就走啦.) At that point, we’re like whatever, we’re not coming back. So we paid but as we were walking out the door, he CHASED us and said that we took THEIR receipt. We were confused but again, whatever. I handed it to him and he snatched it out of my hand…just wow. One of the most unpleasant restaurant experiences ever, don’t come.
