About Xiang Ji BBQ & Seafood

Xiang Ji BBQ & Seafood, located at 3643 Rosemead Blvd in Rosemead, CA 91770, USA, offers a truly authentic Cantonese culinary experience that has garnered high praise from its patrons. You can reach them at (626) 688-2285 or +1 626-688-2285. Despite a seemingly plain exterior or potentially lower initial ratings that might deter some, this Chinese Restaurant has proven to be a hidden gem, particularly favored by the local elderly community – often a strong indicator of genuine and exceptional flavors.

One dish that consistently receives enthusiastic recommendations is the Sweet and Sour Fried Egg with Shredded Vegetables. Described as something simple yet leaving a lasting impression, this dish is considered a must-have on the table during any visit to Xiang Ji BBQ & Seafood. Its enduring popularity suggests a perfect balance of sweet and sour notes combined with the textures of the fried egg and crisp vegetables, creating a memorable and comforting flavor profile.

While the restaurant can get busy in the evenings, its popularity doesn't necessarily translate to long waits or difficulty in securing a table, according to one reviewer. This suggests an efficient operation that manages to accommodate a steady stream of customers without excessive delays, making it a reliable option for dinner even during peak hours.

A unique and highly appreciated feature of Xiang Ji BBQ & Seafood is their "bring your own seafood" (BYO seafood) option. This allows customers to bring their own fresh seafood, such as lobster, fish, or crab, and have it prepared in their preferred flavor or style by the restaurant's kitchen. As of August 2024, the labor cost for this service was a very reasonable $10 per pound, which is considered a significant value compared to other restaurants offering similar services. This BYO option not only caters to those who have access to fresh seafood but also allows for a personalized dining experience tailored to individual tastes and preferences.

The ownership of Xiang Ji BBQ & Seafood plays a crucial role in maintaining its quality and authenticity. According to customer feedback, the owners are actively involved in the day-to-day operations, with one in the kitchen ensuring the flavors remain top-notch and the other serving customers, guaranteeing excellent service. This hands-on approach by the owners underscores their commitment to both the food and the dining experience, contributing to the consistently high standards reported by patrons.

The authenticity of the Cantonese cuisine at Xiang Ji BBQ & Seafood is a major draw, with one reviewer exclaiming that it "Tastes like back in Canton!!!" This strong endorsement from someone who seems familiar with authentic Cantonese flavors speaks volumes about the restaurant's ability to capture the true essence of this popular Chinese regional cuisine. The reviewer was so impressed that they visited the restaurant twice during a short three-day stay in Los Angeles and even took a menu back to Sydney as a travel souvenir, highlighting the exceptional quality and memorable experience.

The friendly nature of the staff also contributes to the positive dining experience at Xiang Ji BBQ & Seafood. Combined with the authentic flavors and the unique BYO seafood option, the welcoming service enhances the overall appeal of the restaurant, making it a place where customers feel valued and well-cared for.

Given its popularity, especially during dinner time, it is advisable to call ahead to book a table to avoid any potential queues. This proactive approach can ensure a smoother and more enjoyable dining experience at this highly recommended establishment.

Don't be put off by the plain exterior or the low ratings. When you see many elderly people at a restaurant, you can bet the flavor is authentic and exceptional. Every time I've come, the Sweet and Sour Fried Egg with Shredded Vegetables is a must on the table; something so simple, yet it leaves such a lasting impression. It can get busy in the evenings, but I've never had to wait long or have difficulty securing a table. This restaurant also has the option for you to bring your own seafood (lobster, fish, crab, etc), you choose a flavor/ style and they'll make it for you. As of August 2024 it was $10/pound for labor, which compared to other restaurants is a very good deal and price. The owners are also here, one in the kitchen and one out serving, so you can count on the flavor and service being top notch.

Very authentic Cantonese!!! Tastes like back in Canton!!! Staff friendly too. Call to book beforehand to avoid queue, they are very popular especially dinner time. Wish they open a restaurant in Sydney, we like it so much that we went back the second time even though we only had 3 days in LA. We brought their menu back in Sydney as our LA travel souvenirs! Everything is on point, highly recommended!

This restaurant does not have a fancy name, nor does it attempt to do anything visually fancy. But what it has is authentic and traditional Cantonese food prepared by someone highly skilled and know what it takes to prepare good Cantonese dishes. Which is rare in SGV because a lot of popular restaurants are either Hot Pot or Szechwan style with hot and spicy food, while also good, hides the freshness and texture of food. Fine Cantonese cuisine is all about highlighting and brining out the freshness and texture of the ingredients. And all good Cantonese chef knows that.
