About Wok Shop Cafe

Wok Shop Cafe is a Chinese restaurant situated at 1233 Van Ness Ave in San Francisco. As a part of the vibrant Chinese Restaurant category in the city, Wok Shop Cafe has garnered attention from local diners who have shared their experiences online. These reviews offer insights into the variety and quality of the dishes served, providing potential customers with an overview of what to expect when dining at this establishment.

One extensive review comes from a diner who visited with extended family and sampled a wide array of dishes. Identifying as an "Americanized Korean," this reviewer expressed overall positive impressions of the food's taste. Among the appetizers, the Pot Stickers received a high rating of 9/10. Despite high expectations set by other positive reviews, the diner found them to be "really really good," noting their crispiness and flavor, although they didn't quite exceed their anticipation. This suggests that the pot stickers are a popular and well-regarded item on the menu.

The Orange Chicken stood out as a clear favorite, earning a perfect 10/10. The reviewer described it as "very very good" with an "amazing texture" and "so so yummy," offering a strong recommendation for this particular dish. This indicates that Wok Shop Cafe excels in preparing this popular American-Chinese classic, making it a must-try for many visitors.

The Mongolian Beef also received a positive rating of 9/10, praised for its "very good" and "rich flavor," making it another recommended option for those who enjoy savory beef dishes. In contrast, the Sweet and Sour Pork was rated 7/10. While the texture was deemed good, the reviewer noted an "unexpected" element in the sauce, though it was still considered "overall pretty good." This suggests that while generally satisfying, this dish might have a unique twist that may not appeal to all palates.

For those who enjoy spicy food, the Kung Pao Chicken was noted to be "very spicy," earning a rating of 7/10 with a clear warning for those sensitive to heat. This indicates that Wok Shop Cafe does not shy away from delivering authentic levels of spiciness in their dishes.

The Beef Chow Mein was surprisingly well-received by a reviewer who is not typically a fan of this dish, earning a 9/10 rating and being described as "really good." Similarly, the Singapore Style Rice Noodles, a dish the reviewer usually avoids, was also enjoyed and rated 9/10, with the description of having a "pretty good, authentic flavor." This suggests that Wok Shop Cafe has the ability to prepare even common dishes in a way that can impress those with specific preferences.

However, not all dishes met expectations. The Prawn and Scallop with Black Bean Sauce received a low rating of 4/10. Despite being recommended by the server as a mildly spicy seafood option, it did not satisfy the reviewer. This highlights the importance of individual taste preferences and the potential for variability in the enjoyment of different menu items.

The Salt and Pepper Fish was rated 8/10, described as "delicious" but "a tad bit too salty" for the reviewer's taste. This suggests that while the dish has good flavor, the seasoning might be intense for some individuals.

Finally, the Beef Chow Fun was rated 7/10 and described as tasting "exactly how you’d think it would taste like," implying a standard and perhaps less exceptional preparation compared to some of the other highly praised noodle dishes.

In addition to the food, the service received a rating of 7/10, noted as "less than ideal." The reviewer mentioned a server who was more engrossed in watching shows at a loud volume than attending to a party of nine, suggesting that attentiveness could be improved, especially when the restaurant is catering to larger groups. This is an important aspect for potential diners to consider regarding the overall dining experience.

Another reviewer offered a more concise but positive assessment, stating that Wok Shop Cafe serves "very good Chinese cuisine." They specifically highlighted the Pot Stickers as "so good and filling" and the Beef Chow Fun as "so delicious and felt home cooked." This reinforces the positive feedback on the pot stickers and offers a contrasting view on the beef chow fun. This reviewer also praised the duck as "so succulent, juicy, flavorful and delicious," noting that the white rice provided a good balance. Overall, this reviewer was "very happy" to have found such good food at Wok Shop Cafe.

Based on these reviews, Wok Shop Cafe appears to be a Chinese restaurant that offers a diverse menu with several standout dishes, particularly the Orange Chicken and Pot Stickers. The quality of other dishes like the Mongolian Beef, Beef Chow Mein, and Singapore Style Rice Noodles also seems to be commendable. However, some dishes, like the Sweet and Sour Pork and Salt and Pepper Fish, might have unique characteristics or seasoning levels that may not appeal to everyone. The service, at least in one instance, was noted to be less attentive.

The reviews provide some insight into the type of food offered – a mix of popular American-Chinese dishes and perhaps some more authentic options, as suggested by the "authentic flavor" of the Singapore Style Rice Noodles and the mention of duck. The reference to "home cooked" Beef Chow Fun suggests a comforting and perhaps traditional preparation of at least one dish.

However, the available reviews do not offer much information about the environment or ambiance of Wok Shop Cafe. Details about the decor, seating arrangements, or overall atmosphere are not provided. Similarly, information regarding services beyond dine-in, such as takeout or delivery, is not mentioned. In conclusion, Wok Shop Cafe, located on Van Ness Ave in San Francisco, is a Chinese restaurant that has received positive feedback for several of its dishes, including the Orange Chicken, Pot Stickers, Mongolian Beef, and some noodle preparations. The quality of other dishes appears to be generally good, though some may have unique characteristics that might not suit all tastes. Ate here with extended family and tried a variety of dishes. As an Americanized Korean, I was quite impressed with how the food tastes. Here is my honest review of each menu item I’ve tried. Pot Stickers: 9/10 With all the good reviews on this, I had high expectations. It is still really really good. Very Crispy and good flavor, I just thought it would be better. (picture included) Orange chicken: 10/10 My favorite out of them all, very very good. Amazing texture, so so yummy. 100000% recommend. Mongolian beef: 9/10 Very good. Rich flavor. Definitely recommend. Sweet and Sour pork: 7/10 Good texture but something in the sauce was a bit unexpected, although it was still overall pretty good. (picture included) Kung Pao chicken: 7/10. Very spicy, beware. Beef Chow Mein: 9/10 Not a huge fan of chow mein but this was really good. Singapore style rice noodles: 9/10 Pretty good, authentic flavor. Normally something I would not like, but I enjoyed this dish at this restraunt. (picture included) Prawn and Scallop with black bean sauce: 4/10. Server recommended this to us when we asked for a mildly spicy seafood dish, however it did not meet my expectations at all. Salt and Pepper Fish: 8/10. Delicious but a tad bit too salty for my taste. Beef chow fun: 7/10 exactly how you’d think it would taste like Service (7/10) was less than ideal as the one server was sitting at her desk watching shows at a loud volume. Wish she paid a tad bit more attention to a party of 9.

Very good Chinese cuisine. The pt stickers were so good and filling. The Beef Chow Fun was so delicious and felt home cooked. The duck was so succulent, juicy, flavorful and delicious. The white rice balanced it. Very happy to have found such good food.

I ordered online on the website for takeout. I should have known better to verify what I got before leaving there. When I got home, I found they had given me vegetarian chow mein in place of beef fried rice. The wrong item was even listed on the receipt. I double-checked my browser history to make sure I had ordered correctly because their website never mailed me an order confirmation. It would have taken too long to return to the restaurant because I had hungry guests.

The cashier was very rude, completely dismissive when we try to add more order. We order chicken chowmein, wild pepper, Ginger scallion fish filled and another Singapore style noodle. The Ginger Scallion testless. The only order we enjoyed was the wild pepper checken. What really disappointed us was the way the cashier interacted with us, veryyy RUDE!!!!

I have been coming here for over 2 years and enjoyed the food and had not had an issue until today but I am very disappointed because I found a dead roach in my to go food. It was in the bottom so I had already eaten some but now I feel like throwing up. This is completely gross and unacceptable.
