About Wok's Cookin'
Wok's Cookin', located at 31565 Castaic Rd, Castaic, CA 91384, is a Chinese restaurant that aims to provide a variety of classic Chinese-American dishes to the local community. Operating within the **Chinese Restaurant** category, it offers both dine-in and takeout options to cater to different customer preferences. For inquiries or to place an order, you can reach them at (661) 257-2950 or +1 661-257-2950.
The menu at Wok's Cookin' encompasses a range of familiar Chinese and Asian-inspired dishes. While a full menu isn't detailed, customer reviews highlight some of their offerings. One highly positive review specifically mentioned **black mushroom and broccoli** as "incredible," noting that "everything was cooked perfectly," with broccoli having a "slight bit crunchy" texture. **Curry chicken** was also praised as "really good" and "delicious" when ordered extra spicy. Another review mentioned **General Tapio's chicken**, which, despite the unusual name, appears to be a variation of the popular General Tso's chicken, although the reviewer found it "not spicy at all" despite the menu description. The chicken itself was described as "ok" with a pleasing "crispiness." Common side dishes like **white rice** and **fried rice** are available, with an option to substitute white rice for fried rice at an additional cost. The restaurant also features a notable **housemade chili oil**, which was described as "pretty tasty" though "not that spicy." This homemade condiment suggests an effort to provide unique touches to their offerings. Given the typical range of Chinese restaurants, it's highly likely that Wok's Cookin' also offers other staples such as various noodle dishes (Lo Mein, Chow Mein), other beef, pork, and seafood entrees, and a selection of appetizers.
The environment at Wok's Cookin' receives mixed but generally positive comments regarding cleanliness and ambiance. One customer explicitly stated, "This restaurant is clean, this restaurant is quiet," which contributes to a more pleasant dining experience, especially for those seeking a tranquil meal. The emphasis on a quiet atmosphere suggests it might be a good spot for a relaxed lunch or dinner away from bustling crowds. While the review doesn't delve into specific decor details, the mention of cleanliness is a crucial indicator of a well-maintained establishment. However, another review described the experience as merely "okaay," implying that while the environment might be clean, it may not be exceptionally inviting or memorable in terms of ambiance. The focus seems to be on functionality and cleanliness, providing a comfortable space for customers to enjoy their meal, whether dining in or waiting for a takeout order.
Service at Wok's Cookin' has elicited varied responses from customers. One highly satisfied customer's experience suggests efficient and positive service, as their food was prepared perfectly and met their expectations. This aligns with the desire for a quick and satisfying meal often sought at Chinese restaurants. However, another review presents a less favorable view, describing the service as "curt, bordering on unfriendly, as if I'm bothering her when I asked for a refill of my water." This indicates a potential inconsistency in customer interaction, where some patrons might experience a less welcoming demeanor from staff. While the reviewer noted it "wasn't horrible," such comments can impact the overall perception of the dining experience. Efficient and polite service is a cornerstone of good restaurant operation, and while some may have had positive interactions, others have encountered a less than ideal approach, particularly when requesting basic amenities like a water refill. This suggests there might be room for improvement in ensuring consistent and friendly service across all interactions.
The key features of Wok's Cookin' are its focus on **freshly cooked food** and its aspiration to offer a comprehensive Chinese-American menu. The praise for the freshness of ingredients and perfect cooking of dishes like black mushroom and broccoli and curry chicken highlights a strong point for the restaurant. The mention of "the most amazing FRESH food!" is a significant positive. The availability of **housemade chili oil** is another distinct feature, indicating an attention to detail and a desire to offer unique condiments that enhance the dining experience. However, a notable feature that also presents a challenge is the **inconsistency in flavor and adherence to menu descriptions**, particularly regarding the spiciness of "General Tapio's chicken" and the blandness of the fried rice. The confusion over the name "General Tapio" also points to a potential branding or communication issue. Portion sizes, specifically the "meager" fried rice, also seem to be a point of concern for some. The ability to "pay with your card here" is a practical convenience, especially for a modern restaurant, though it is now a widely expected feature. Ultimately, the restaurant's features revolve around its fresh preparation for some dishes contrasted with inconsistencies in others and service, making it a mixed bag for different customers.
As for promotional information, specific details for Wok's Cookin' are not explicitly provided in the available reviews. However, like many local Chinese restaurants, they may offer various specials or deals to attract customers. One review mentioned stopping by on a "weekend (no lunch deal)," which implies that **lunch deals** might be available on weekdays. This is a common promotional strategy for Chinese restaurants to draw in a lunchtime crowd with more affordable combo meals or specials. Other potential promotions could include **family meal deals, discounts for larger orders, or loyalty programs** for frequent diners. These promotions are often advertised directly at the restaurant, on local online directories, or through their own website or social media channels if they maintain a significant online presence. Given the feedback on price versus perceived value ("I wouldn't come back to this place for the price you pay to get merely okaaaaay food"), any future promotions that emphasize value and consistent quality could be beneficial for attracting and retaining customers. To inquire about current promotions, it would be best for potential customers to contact Wok's Cookin' directly via their phone numbers provided.

Customer Reviews
This restaurant is clean, this restaurant is quiet and it has the most amazing FRESH food! I ordered two entrées, black mushroom and broccoli. It was incredible. Everything was cooked perfectly at least for my liking meaning I like my broccoli just a slight bit crunchy… the mushrooms were great. The curry chicken was really good. I ordered it extra spicy. It was delicious. This is my second time in this area in the past three years. I will definitely come back again.
Stopped by on a weekend (no lunch deal) and got the General Tapio's chicken. Who is General Tapio? Is he Tso's cousin? Never heard of him. Perhaps he's General Tso's spicy cousin? Because according to the menu, General Tapio's Chicken is supposed to be spicy. The dish came with white rice, which I substituted for fried rice for additional $2. Not worth it. The fried rice was as bland as white rice and it was very meager; just a tiny bowl about the size of a teenage girl's fist. The chicken itself was ok. I like the crispiness of it. It came with a whole lot of sauce! The sauce was not spicy at all to me. I would compare it to the level of regular orange chicken with a dab of spice; nothing to break a sweat about. The service was curt, bordering on unfriendly, as if I'm bothering her when I asked for a refill of my water. Well, at least it wasn't horrible. The best thing about this place is the housemade chili oil. It's pretty tasty, not that spicy, but I appreciate that it's housemade. I wouldn't come back to this place for the price you pay to get merely okaaaaay food. You can pay with your card here!
Quite possibly the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. The restaurant is mom n pop owned and operated. The food is excellent, the servings are plentiful, the prices are fair, and the service is friendly. I will definitely keep going back. July 2021, it was around $10-$15, per person.
I went to this restaurant because someone recommended it, and it was a complete disaster! I ordered a plate of orange chicken and beef and broccoli. The beef and broccoli was slimy and had a foul smell, like it was about to go bad. The orange chicken was no big deal, and to top it off, paying $43 for those two dishes and some egg rolls is a real steal! Seriously, I would never recommend this place to anyone, what a disaster!
Maybe it's just my impression, but in the USA, soups are not an integral part of the menu of most restaurants. After I discovered Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup), which is my favorite, now I came across this dish that I really like, it is dish number 18. Woks noodle soup. Try it, you won't regret it
