About Wok Express
Wok Express is a Chinese restaurant located at 12209 Dorsett Rd in Maryland Heights, Missouri, serving the community with a range of familiar Americanized Chinese dishes. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Wok Express has a history in the area, as noted by a long-time customer who mentioned its previous location across the highway and the presence of a drive-thru at that time. This suggests that Wok Express has been a local fixture for over two decades, adapting to changes in location and, according to customer feedback, also in its food quality and offerings.
While specific details about the current environment of Wok Express are not extensively described, it is located in a strip mall, which typically suggests a casual and convenient setting primarily focused on efficient service and food preparation. The fact that a customer placed an in-person to-go order indicates that the restaurant accommodates walk-in customers seeking takeout. Given the mention of a busy lunch rush and numerous online delivery/pickup orders being processed, it is likely that Wok Express caters significantly to customers preferring to enjoy their meals off-site.
In terms of services, Wok Express clearly offers takeout, as evidenced by one reviewer's experience. The heavy volume of online delivery and pickup orders being handled during the lunch rush suggests that these are also significant parts of their service model. To confirm if they offer dine-in services, and for information on their direct delivery options or partnerships with third-party delivery platforms, it is recommended to contact them directly at (314) 291-6821 or +1 314-291-6821. Calling ahead can also provide details on their operating hours and any specific service procedures.
The features of Wok Express present a mixed picture based on the two available reviews. A long-time customer expressed disappointment with the recent changes in food quality. They mentioned that their usual go-to dish, the "Mongolian beef," now contains only a few slices of beef with a large amount of bamboo shoots and onion, and the sauce has also changed. This reviewer also noted that the "potstickers are always doughy on the inside" and the "crab rangoon taste frozen," leading to their decision not to return until the quality improves. This feedback suggests a decline in the consistency and quality of some of Wok Express's popular items.
In contrast, a more recent review of a lunch order provided a more nuanced perspective. The "Orange Chicken combo" was praised as "well cooked and flavorful," with a prominent orange sauce and a generous portion of chicken for the price, earning it a 4-star rating. The "Egg Fried rice" was considered "fine" but not exceptional (3.5 stars), with a suggestion for more onion to enhance flavor. The "Crab rangoons" received a high rating of 4.5 stars, described as "very good, sweet and pretty cream cheesey" with a well-fried and tasty wonton. However, the "Beef lo mein" was rated lower at 3 stars, noted as "fine" but greasy and lacking significant flavor, with chewy beef.
The second reviewer also commented on the service during a busy lunch rush, noting a 20-minute wait for a to-go order despite the food being seemingly pre-prepared. However, they acknowledged the busy period and praised the staff as "very nice" and "seemingly family-run," giving the service a 4-star rating. The reviewer concluded that Wok Express is a "pretty solid strip-mall stop for local (americanized) Chinese food" and indicated a likelihood of trying it again, suggesting ordering online in advance to mitigate wait times.
The contrasting reviews highlight the potential for variability in the food quality and the impact of busy periods on service speed. While some dishes, like the Orange Chicken and Crab Rangoon, received positive feedback, others, like the Mongolian Beef and Beef Lo Mein, were less impressive. The long-standing history of the restaurant might appeal to some, while the reported changes in quality could deter others.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. Chinese restaurants often offer lunch specials or combination meals, especially during the busy lunch rush mentioned in one of the reviews. To inquire about any current promotions or special offers at Wok Express, local users are encouraged to contact them directly by phone. They may also have a menu available online or at their location that details any such offers.
In conclusion, Wok Express in Maryland Heights, MO, is a Chinese restaurant with a long history in the community that currently presents a somewhat inconsistent experience based on recent customer reviews. While some dishes are well-received, others have seen a decline in quality according to a long-time patron. The service is generally considered friendly, though it can be slow during peak hours. Potential customers might find value in the reasonably priced and generously portioned lunch options, such as the Orange Chicken combo. For those considering Wok Express, it may be prudent to order ahead online, especially during busy times, and to inquire about the current preparation of specific dishes based on the mixed feedback. To learn more about their menu, hours of operation, and any current promotions, please contact them directly at (314) 291-6821 or +1 314-291-6821.

Customer Reviews
Have been going to Wok Express for over 20 years since it was located on the other side of the highway with a drive thru. The portions and flavors have completely changed over the years. The Mongolian beef is normally my go to but I probably won't order it anymore. You get a few slices of beef the rest is all bamboo shoots and onion. The sauce has completely changed as well. The potstickers are always doughy on the inside like they aren't cooked all the way. The crab rangoon taste frozen. The quality isn't there anymore and it unfortunately makes me not want to come back. I used to tell everyone to go there but won't until the quality improves. Hope you guys can get that spark back and put the love of cooking back into the food. The restaurant used to be incredible.
Came in during a busy lunch rush and placed an in-person to go order. Got the Orange Chicken combo and a half order of beef lo mein-- $15 altogether for a lot of food Orange chicken is well cooked and flavorful, with a very orange-forward sauce that goes well with the rice too. Also was surprised to find extra chicken under my rice for a pretty generous lunch portion at a great value-4stars Egg Fried rice is fine, nothing special but also got the combination rice not a standalone full order. Could probably use a bit of onion to hold more flavor- 3.5 stars Crab rangoons are very good, sweet and pretty cream cheesey. Well fried with a tasty wonton too - 4.5 stars Beef lo mein is fine, a bit greasy without enough flavor to be really worth it, and the beef is a little too chewy- 3 stars They were really busy for the lunch rush, so I can give them a little slack for that but still not ideal to wait 20 minutes for a to go order (on food that's already prepared) all of the staff were very nice though, seemingly family-run- - 4 stars for service All in all a pretty solid strip-mall stop for local (americanized) Chinese food. The staff were certainly overloaded with online delivery or pickup orders, I saw about 10 of those get worked on while waiting for mine to get filled. Will likely try again, but will order ahead online.
Just picked this place from searching for some Chinese restaurants open late and are affordable. Just found out that this is now my new favorite place to eat. If they had a six star option I would rate it six stars.
The food is disgusting the honey sauce on the chicken is burnt taste so bad rice has no flavor the egg roll was the best thing on the plate and that was shitty as well do not eat here
Im not sure what this is but it is not meat! The rice tastes old like it’s been reheated. I definitely will not be going back.
