About Wok City
Wok City is a Chinese restaurant located at 153 Amsterdam Ave in the Upper West Side of Manhattan, New York City, NY 10023. They can be contacted at (212) 496-9714 or their mobile number +1 212-496-9714. Based on the available customer reviews, Wok City primarily operates as a takeout establishment, offering quick service and a lunch special option.
Customer feedback regarding Wok City is somewhat divided. One reviewer reported a significantly negative experience with their order. They stated that their chicken lo mein and General Tso's chicken were undercooked. Upon calling the restaurant to inform them, they felt their feedback was not adequately addressed. This reviewer described their meal as "Rankey chicken juice lo mein and raw pink general tomatoes chicken" and also noted receiving "little to none rice." They expressed strong dissatisfaction with the food quality and the perceived poor service, deeming it "unacceptable" and not worth their money.
In contrast, another reviewer had a more positive experience, particularly noting the speed of service. They visited the restaurant around 2 pm and found it "pretty busy." Despite the crowd, they were able to order and receive their takeout food within approximately 10 minutes. This suggests that Wok City is equipped to handle a decent volume of customers efficiently, especially for takeout orders.
Regarding the environment, this second reviewer mentioned "a couple of chairs with a small countertop to wait for your order," indicating that Wok City is primarily set up for quick pickups. They also suggested the option to "call in early then come to pick the food up when it's ready," further emphasizing their focus on takeout service. The limited waiting area suggests that dine-in is likely not a significant part of their operation.
This reviewer also commented on the food, specifically ordering the beef with broccoli lunch special for $9.50. They found the portion size to be "appropriate for the price" and the food to be "pretty good." A minor suggestion was to add "a bit more sauce" as they found the sauce to be "yummy." Overall, this customer expressed satisfaction with their meal and indicated a willingness to return in the future, stating, "I will definitely come back to this place in the future!"
Considering these two reviews, Wok City appears to be a takeout-focused Chinese restaurant in the Upper West Side known for its relatively fast service, especially during the lunch rush. They offer at least one lunch special, the beef with broccoli, which is considered reasonably priced and generally tasty, although some customers might prefer more sauce. However, there is also a concerning report of severely undercooked food from another customer, which raises questions about the consistency of their food preparation.
Based on the available information, the services at Wok City primarily include takeout, with the option to order in person or by phone for pickup. They also likely offer delivery, although this is not explicitly mentioned in these reviews. The fast service noted by one reviewer suggests an efficient system for processing and preparing takeout orders. The presence of a waiting area with limited seating further supports their focus on quick turnover for takeout customers.
There are no specific features of Wok City highlighted in these reviews, such as unique menu items, specialties, or a particular style of Chinese cuisine beyond the mention of standard dishes like chicken lo mein, General Tso's chicken, and beef with broccoli. The lunch special is a notable offering, providing a budget-friendly option. However, there is no information regarding other potential features that might distinguish Wok City from other Chinese takeout restaurants in the area.
Similarly, no promotional information, such as discounts, new menu items, or loyalty programs, is mentioned in these customer reviews. Local users interested in such details would need to contact the restaurant directly or check if they have any online presence where promotions might be advertised.
In conclusion, Wok City in the Upper West Side offers a convenient takeout option for Chinese food, with some customers praising their fast service and reasonably priced lunch specials. The beef with broccoli lunch special received positive feedback for taste and portion size. However, potential customers should be aware of a concerning report of undercooked food, which suggests potential inconsistencies in food preparation. The restaurant seems primarily geared towards takeout, with a small waiting area for pickups. Further information would be needed to assess the full range of their menu, any unique features, and the consistency of their food quality and service.

Customer Reviews
I ordered chicken lo mein and general too chicken. The food is undercooked. I call and let them know well done, I should have said burnt so it would be cooked properly. I came a long distance to have Rankey chicken juice lo mein and raw pink general tomatoes chicken. With little to none rice. This is unacceptable, and not right to spend hard working money for bad food service.
Pretty busy for when I came in at almost 2pm. Lots of staff and was able to order and then receive my food within 10 minutes of waiting for takeout. They have a couple of chairs with a small countertop to wait for your order or you can call in early then come to pick the food up when it's ready. I ordered the beef w broccoli lunch special for 9.50$ for the price the portion sizing seems appropriate and the food was pretty good though I wish they had added a bit more sauce (the sauce is so yummy 😋). I will definitely come back to this place in the future!
I ordered the small chicken fried rice. It was quite dry and the serving size was a bit small. However, I only had to wait a few minutes to receive it.
Good decent but when you order a lunch special; it should either come with an egg roll or soda. For $9.50. You get nothing but your food. They need to do better for the community
Some people just don't care about their business. I ordered a chicken with noodles they gave me rice. I think I cook better than the restaurant.
