When considering a Chinese restaurant, local users often look for feedback on the quality of the food, the dining experience (especially if it's a buffet), the service provided, and the overall value. Recent customer reviews for Westlake Chinese Restaurant present a mixed picture, with contrasting opinions on the food quality but some positive remarks on service and pricing.

One customer had a significantly negative experience, describing the food as "absolutely awful, bland, dry and over cooked." This reviewer tried the combination fried rice and their grandmother had the vegetable lo mein, both of which were deemed unsatisfactory. Even the crab rangoons, a popular appetizer, were described as "really bad." The only item found to be edible was the egg drop soup. While this reviewer acknowledged that the restaurant itself was "cleaned and well organized," the poor quality of the food led to a negative overall assessment, perhaps tempered by the observation that Smithville is a small town where expectations might be lower.

In contrast, another review detailed a more exploratory experience, as the reviewer and their husband wanted to "sample" everything available, suggesting they visited during a buffet service. They noted that "Some of the food had been there a while, some trays were empty," indicating potential issues with food freshness and availability at certain times. However, they also mentioned that "The nice lady let us know when the trays were refilled," highlighting a positive aspect of the service.

This second reviewer identified their top three favorite items from the buffet as "stuffed mushrooms (heavy with cream cheese)," "the fresh beef and broccoli," and "spicy string beans." While the "battered coconut shrimp was dry," they still found it enjoyable. The "orange chicken was fresh" and the sauce was liked. They also noted the availability of two soup options: the classic egg drop and hot and sour. Importantly, this reviewer found the price to be "really good" and surprising for a Sunday buffet, with a total cost of less than $22 for two people.

Based on these reviews, the food quality at Westlake Chinese Restaurant appears to be inconsistent. One customer found it overwhelmingly negative, while another had a more positive experience with specific dishes during what seems to have been a buffet. The buffet format itself can lead to variability in food freshness depending on when items are prepared and how quickly they are consumed and replenished. The service, particularly the attentiveness of the staff in refilling trays, was noted as a positive aspect by the buffet customer.

As a Chinese restaurant that apparently offers a buffet (at least on Sundays, based on one review), Westlake Chinese Restaurant likely features a variety of Chinese-American dishes presented in a self-serve format. This typically includes a selection of appetizers, soups, main courses featuring different meats and vegetables, rice and noodle dishes, and desserts. The specific mentions of stuffed mushrooms, beef and broccoli, spicy string beans, coconut shrimp, and orange chicken give an idea of some of the offerings. The availability of both egg drop and hot and sour soup is also typical for such establishments.

The environment of Westlake Chinese Restaurant is described by one reviewer as "cleaned and well organized," which is a positive aspect of the dining experience. The other review does not provide specific details about the ambiance or decor, but the mention of a buffet suggests a layout that accommodates multiple food stations and seating for diners.

The services offered by Westlake Chinese Restaurant include both dine-in (as implied by the buffet experience) and likely takeout options, as is common for Chinese restaurants. The service was noted as "nice" by the buffet reviewer, with staff being attentive to refilling food trays. However, the first reviewer did not comment on the service, focusing primarily on the food quality.

Features of Westlake Chinese Restaurant seem to include a Sunday buffet that is considered well-priced. The menu offers a variety of dishes, with some being more well-received than others. The stuffed mushrooms, beef and broccoli, and spicy string beans were highlighted as particularly good by one reviewer, while the orange chicken was noted for its freshness and sauce. The availability of both classic and spicy soup options caters to different preferences. The cleanliness and organization of the restaurant were also mentioned as positive features.

Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews, beyond the mention of a "really good" price for the Sunday buffet. Chinese restaurants often have different pricing for lunch and dinner buffets, as well as potential discounts for seniors or children. They might also offer special deals on takeout orders or combination meals. To find out about any current promotions at Westlake Chinese Restaurant, local users would need to contact them directly at (816) 532-4166. Inquiring about their buffet hours and pricing, as well as any takeout specials, would be beneficial.

For local users in Smithville, MO, Westlake Chinese Restaurant presents a somewhat uncertain picture based on the available reviews. While one customer had a very negative experience with the food, another found several dishes on the Sunday buffet to be enjoyable and the price to be attractive. The cleanliness of the restaurant and the attentiveness of the staff during the buffet were noted as positives. Potential customers might want to consider trying the buffet to sample a variety of dishes for themselves, keeping in mind the reported variability in food quality and freshness. Alternatively, inquiring about specific takeout dishes that have received positive mentions (like the beef and broccoli or orange chicken) might be a way to gauge their quality.

In conclusion, Westlake Chinese Restaurant in Smithville, MO, appears to offer a Sunday buffet that is considered affordable, with some dishes receiving positive feedback while others are criticized. The restaurant is noted for being clean and organized, and the service during the buffet was described as nice. Local users are encouraged to weigh the mixed reviews and consider visiting to form their own opinion, perhaps inquiring about the buffet schedule and pricing or specific takeout options.

The food was absolutely awful, bland, dry and over cooked. I got the combination fried rice and my grandmother got vegetable lo mein. Honestly even the crab rangoons were really bad too. The only edible thing was the egg drop soup. As for the restaurant itself it was cleaned and well organized but the food is just not good. It is a small town so you cant expect much.

My husband and I wanted to try a new place today. We wasn't starving however we wanted to sample. We tried a bite of everything that was available. Some of the food had been there a while, some trays were empty. The nice lady let us know when the trays were refilled. The top 3 items of mine were: stuffed mushrooms (heavy with cream cheese), the fresh beef and broccoli, and spicy string beans. The battered coconut shrimp was dry but I still enjoyed it. The orange chicken was fresh and I liked the sauce. They had 2 soup options, the classic egg drop and hot and sour. The price was really good and surprised us for a Sunday buffet. We paid less than $22 total.

Best Chinese food we've found in the area! Fried rice is delicious and we also had the sesame beef and sesame chicken. It was so good! We've done a couple take out orders recently.

Everything we've ordered for carry out here has been delicious. Crab Rangoons are full of large pieces of meat and nice and savory versus the average sweet Rangoon you typically get around KC. Side of Lo Mein full of quality vegetables, big shrimp and tons of flavor in the combo fried rice meat was good not chewy or grisley. Sweet& Sour sauces were great and did not have that soapy taste a lot do... overall VERY impressive for a small town Chinese joint. Highly Recommend!
