About West Place
West Place is a Chinese restaurant situated at 1288 Amsterdam Ave #4225 in New York, NY, catering to the local community with a menu of Chinese cuisine, primarily focusing on delivery and takeout services based on recent customer feedback. For those in the area seeking convenient options for Chinese food, West Place is one of the available choices.
However, recent reviews from customers paint a concerning picture regarding the quality of food and service provided by West Place. One particularly critical review details a highly negative delivery experience. The customer reported repeated failures in following delivery instructions, specifically mentioning the omission of mustard on multiple occasions. Additionally, essential condiments like soy sauce, chopsticks, and napkins were also missing from the order. This lack of attention to detail in fulfilling delivery requests raises concerns about the restaurant's customer service and order accuracy.
The same reviewer also used the Hot & Sour Soup as a benchmark for assessing the quality of a Chinese restaurant, noting that while West Place's version was usually excellent, their recent experience was drastically different. The soup was described as having a thin consistency and lacking the expected sour and spicy flavors. Furthermore, the reviewer questioned the absence of traditional ingredients such as wood mushrooms, galangal, egg, and pork, suggesting that the soup tasted like it had ketchup added, which they found unappetizing. The temperature of the soup was also reported as lukewarm, further detracting from the dining experience. The Egg Foo Young, another dish used as a gauge for a good Chinese restaurant, was also deemed unsatisfactory ("yuk!") by this customer, leading to a strong overall disappointment and a perception that West Place does not prioritize customer service.
Another customer shared a negative experience related to a pick-up order. They reported being charged $29.47 for an order that should have totaled $20.20 based on the listed prices of a General Tso Lunch Special ($10.95) and Pepper Steak with Onions ($9.25). This significant discrepancy in pricing, coupled with the restaurant's practice of not providing itemized receipts, raises serious concerns about potential overcharging and a lack of transparency in their billing. Even with a complimentary can of coke and an egg roll included in the order, the customer still felt it was "highway robbery," indicating a significant dissatisfaction with the value received for the price paid.
These recent reviews paint a concerning picture of West Place, highlighting significant issues with both the quality of their food and their customer service practices, particularly concerning delivery orders and billing accuracy for pick-up orders. The negative feedback regarding the Hot & Sour Soup and Egg Foo Young suggests potential inconsistencies or a decline in the standard of their key dishes. The repeated failure to follow delivery instructions and the omission of basic condiments indicate a lack of attention to detail and customer needs. Moreover, the alleged overcharging and non-itemized receipts raise serious questions about the restaurant's pricing and billing transparency.
Given these recent and critical reviews, local users in New York City considering ordering from or picking up food from West Place should be aware of these potential pitfalls. The reported issues with food quality, order accuracy, missing items, and pricing discrepancies could lead to a negative dining experience. While past experiences might have been better (as suggested by the first reviewer's comment about the Hot & Sour Soup usually being excellent), the current feedback indicates a significant decline in standards.
West Place is located at 1288 Amsterdam Ave #4225, New York, NY 10027, and can be contacted at (212) 932-9390 or +1 212-932-9390. It would be prudent to confirm order details, request itemized receipts for pick-up orders, and perhaps inquire about their current food preparation standards.
In conclusion, recent customer reviews for West Place in New York City raise significant concerns about their food quality, delivery service, and pricing practices. The negative feedback regarding key dishes, missing order items, and potential overcharging suggests a need for caution for local users considering this Chinese restaurant. While it is important to consider that individual experiences can vary, the consistency and severity of the issues raised in these reviews warrant careful consideration.
Local users might want to explore other Chinese restaurant options in the New York City area that have received more consistently positive recent feedback regarding food quality, service, and transparent pricing.

Customer Reviews
They sucked again. Never read delivery instructions - did not get mustard again! Did not ask for soy sauce! Hot & Sour Soup is one of my gauges for a good chinese restaurant. Theirs is usually excellent but today NOT AT ALL. Thin consistencey; not sour or spicyat all. Where were the traditional ingredients (wood mushrooms, galangal, egg, pork etc?? Tasted like they put ketchup in it (YUK). Temperature was lukewarm. Egg foo young is another gadget for a good restaurant - yuk! I am thoroughly disappointed!! They do not care about customer service. No chopsticks & no napkins again.
They charged me 29.47$ for my pick-up order of a General Tso Lunch Special (10.95$) and Pepper Steak w/ Onions (9.25$). The numbers don’t add up and their receipts aren’t itemized either. I know times are tough but the attached pic even with the free can of coke and egg roll was still highway robbery.
I’ve lived in the neighborhood for 4 years and never tried this place because of the questionable reviews. It’s good, average Chinese takeout. -Mushu Pork: great. Double pancakes for $1 -Steamed bok choi (not on menu?, sauce on side): great -Veggie Lo Mein: good/average -Sesame chicken: great -Hot and Sour soup: bad. Had almost no flavor.
I have ordered for delivery various a few times, and they always give food contrary of one’s order. They never ever put in napkins of cutlery, and not to mention their prices are way high. Food is cold, rice is hard
Picked up shrimp lo mein, crab sticks and wonton soup. The shrimp lo mein was good and I liked that it wasn’t saturated with oil. It also brought a decent amount of shrimp. My husband didn’t like the crab sticks; he found them mushy inside and over fried. And the wonton soup was okay, they did give a lot of wontons. I found the prices very reasonable for the area.
