About Water Song Yunnan Kitchen

Water Song Yunnan Kitchen, located at 21 E Cross St in Baltimore, Maryland, offers local diners a distinctive experience within the Chinese Restaurant category by specializing in the flavorful cuisine of the Yunnan province. Based on customer reviews, this restaurant is notable for its delicious food, great presentation, and kind service.

The cuisine at Water Song Yunnan Kitchen is characterized by its wonderful flavors and the prominent use of ingredients like cilantro and chili oil. Customers sensitive to these ingredients should take note. Dishes like the Soft Tofu Rice Noodles with pork are described as delicious, slightly sweet, faintly spicy, and rich in cilantro and chili oil, with a soft and appealing tofu texture. The broth is so flavorful that some diners enjoy drinking it entirely.

The Roasted Pork Belly Ramen is also highly praised, particularly by those who enjoy spicy food and ramen. While the noodles may soften over time in the soup, the overall taste, including the roasted pork, is considered fantastic. The Spicy Garlic Cucumber Salad serves as a refreshing palate cleanser, effectively cutting through the richer flavors of other dishes.

For dessert, the Sesame Balls are a hit, noted for their sweet, chewy yet firm texture and excellent flavor profile, often leaving diners scraping honey from the plate. The Yunnan Puer Hot Tea Pot, while described as potentially sour by the staff, was perceived by one reviewer as similar to unsweetened green tea and quite enjoyable, with sugar offered as an option.

The Xiao Long Bao, or soup dumplings, are flavorful and considered worth trying, although they might be on the smaller side for those focused on cost-value analysis. Other highly recommended dishes include the Lemongrass Pork and Shrimp Dumplings, the spicy and flavorful Long Green Pepper with Pork (perfect with rice), and the Kunming Style Sticky Rice Cakes, lauded as some of the best, with a soft yet chewy texture and a sweet and savory sauce.

Customers also rave about the Pumpkin Cakes for dessert, suggesting they are a must-try. The overall dining experience is consistently described as excellent, with great service and delicious, well-presented food.

Here’s the short version: The food was wonderfully flavorful. A lot of cilantro and chili oil, so keep that in mind if you’re among the “tastes like soap” or anti-lipids crowd. Here’s the long version: We ordered 1) Soft Tofu Rice Noodles with pork 2) Roasted Pork Belly Ramen 3) Spicy Garlic Cucumber Salad 4) Sesame Balls 5) Yunnan Puer Hot Tea Pot 6) Xiao Long Bao 1) the soft tofu rice was delicious. Slightly sweet, faintly spicy, cilantro and chili oil heavy. If you’re like my wife, you’re fishing every morsel out of the broth and savoring the flavor. If you’re like me, you’re drinking the stuff by the end of the meal. The Tofu was soft (rather than the typical blocks of tofu) in an appetizing way, and it made for a good mixture/medley. 2) My ramen was also fantastic. I’m a fan of spicy, and I’m a fan of ramen. The noodles got pretty soft before I finished the soup, so keep that in mind if you have a texture sensitivity. I thought it was delicious, but if youre a save-the-best for last type and have a texture preference, you might have to tackle that part first. Same goes for the roasted pork. 3) Cucumber salad cut the flavors really well. It was a pleasant little palate cleanser. 4) Yes. Sweet, chewy but firm, excellent flavor profile. A lovely dessert pastry. We were scraping honey off of the plate. Ask me if I’m ashamed. (No) 5) We were warned that the tea would be sour. I guess? It tasted more like unsweetened green tea. Tasted wonderful to me, and sugar was an option to add. 6) I mean.. soup dumplings. They were perhaps somewhat small? I’d still say they were worth it flavor wise if you’re not doing a cost-value analysis (which I often am). Delightful food. Great presentation. Kind staff. 5/5 will eat again.

This was our second time here and both experiences were excellent! The service is great and the food is so good. The lemongrass pork and shrimp dumplings are a favorite. The long green pepper with pork was spicy and flavorful, perfect with the rice. The Kunming style sticky rice cakes were some of the best rice cakes I've had anywhere. They were soft but still chewy and the sauce was sweet and savory. Don't forget to try the pumpkin cakes for dessert!

I came to Baltimore for an event for a one-night stay while looking for nice Asian food around and found this restaurants! I was so surprised their menu has so many authentic Yunnan cuisines. As I was alone, I order just a roasted port noodle and and grilled pig and they were HUGE! It tasted so good that I wish I can come back again to try their other dishes. Prices are reasonable ans truly a surprise to my work trip!

This was my first time trying out this restaurant and it was an excellent first time! Specifically, my server, Vi Vi made the first time experience great. She gave me amazing food recommendations. I would definitely try the Zhanyi Peppery Chicken! I definitely recommend Vi Vi as a server if you come in! She’s very kind and informative!
