About Wan Fu Asian Cuisine&Bar

Wan Fu Asian Cuisine & Bar, located at 12033 Manchester Rd in Des Peres, Missouri (MO 63131), USA, positions itself within the Chinese Restaurant category, extending its offerings to include a broader spectrum of Asian cuisine, notably featuring a bar and sushi. For local users in the St. Louis area, particularly those in and around Des Peres, Wan Fu presents itself as a potential destination for a diverse Asian culinary experience. Recent customer reviews provide a range of perspectives on the restaurant's food, service, and atmosphere, which are crucial for an objective understanding.

One family, new to the St. Louis area, expressed delight in discovering Wan Fu. Their initial experience was positive, with praise for the "hot breast chicken," which was described as "very flavorful" and offered in a "great portion size." The fried rice also received a "very tasty" rating. A significant highlight for this visit was a 50% discount on sushi rolls, which allowed them to try a shrimp California roll that they found to be "great." The reviewer also noted the extensive menu, expressing a desire to return and explore other options. They appreciated the quick service and the fact that the restaurant was not overly busy during their visit, adding that the ambiance was "very cute" with "adorable decorations." This initial positive feedback suggests a welcoming environment and some standout dishes, particularly when promotions are available.

Another reviewer echoed the positive notes on service and cleanliness, stating "Good service, clean restaurant, and the food came out quickly." They specifically lauded the "volcano roll" as being "among the best I’ve tasted," indicating a strength in their sushi offerings. However, this reviewer also mentioned that "the majority of food did not stand out," suggesting that while some items are exceptional, others may be more average.

Further emphasizing the quality of the volcano roll, another customer stated, "We ordered a volcano roll to share as an appetizer, Wan Fu’s version is terrific. Easily our favorite item at the restaurant." This repeated praise for the volcano roll positions it as a potential signature dish and a recommended item for first-time visitors or sushi enthusiasts.

Beyond sushi, the "Wan Fu garlic beef" was also highlighted positively by a reviewer who found it "flavorful," with both the beef and garlic flavors being "prominent," deeming it "a dish worth ordering." This suggests that some of their traditional Chinese dishes also receive favorable feedback for their taste and flavor profiles.

However, not all feedback has been positive. One reviewer expressed significant disappointment with several dishes, describing them as "bland." The items mentioned were beef fried rice, combination lo mein, and deluxe seafood. The reviewer likened the taste to that of an "inexpensive Chinese buffet," finding them "definitely edible" but not of the quality expected from individually ordered items. This critique points to a potential inconsistency in the quality and flavor of their more standard Chinese dishes.

Adding to the concerns about food quality, the same reviewer detailed negative experiences with "extras" provided with their meal. The ginger was described as having an "undesirable taste," with an "off-putting taste suggesting it needs thrown away." The wasabi was noted to be "dry and gritty," indicating staleness. Even the sliced lemons requested by the customer were reportedly in poor condition. Out of three slices, one appeared freshly cut, another seemed to have been sliced hours or possibly the day before, and the last lemon had an "orange in appearance suggesting it needed thrown out days ago." This detailed account of subpar condiments and garnishes raises questions about the restaurant's attention to detail and the freshness of even the supporting elements of their meals.

Based on these reviews, Wan Fu Asian Cuisine & Bar appears to offer a mixed experience. On the positive side, the service is generally described as good, and the restaurant is noted for being clean and having a pleasant ambiance. The volcano roll seems to be a standout item, and the hot breast chicken and Wan Fu garlic beef have also received praise for their flavor. Additionally, the 50% off sushi promotion mentioned by one reviewer suggests that they may offer discounts or specials, although the frequency and availability of such promotions are not clear.

However, there are also significant drawbacks highlighted in the feedback. Some standard Chinese dishes have been described as bland and reminiscent of buffet fare. Furthermore, there are concerns about the quality and freshness of extras like ginger, wasabi, and lemons, which can detract from the overall dining experience. The inconsistency in food quality across different dishes is also a point to consider for potential customers.

Currently, there is no consistent information about ongoing promotions or special features at Wan Fu Asian Cuisine & Bar beyond the one-time sushi discount mentioned. Local users interested in learning about any regular specials, happy hour deals at the bar, or other promotions are encouraged to contact the restaurant directly at their phone number, (314) 821-7999 or mobile phone +1 314-821-7999. Visiting their location at 12033 Manchester Rd, Des Peres, MO 63131, USA, might also provide insights into the current ambiance and any advertised specials within the restaurant.

In conclusion, Wan Fu Asian Cuisine & Bar in Des Peres offers a diverse menu that includes Chinese dishes and sushi, with a bar area. Customer reviews suggest generally good service and a clean, cute environment. While some dishes, like the volcano roll, hot breast chicken, and Wan Fu garlic beef, have been well-received, there are also reports of bland standard Chinese dishes and concerns about the freshness and quality of extras. Potential local users may find some appealing aspects, particularly if they enjoy sushi or specific highlighted dishes, but should also be aware of the reported inconsistencies in food quality and the potential for subpar condiments. It might be advisable to inquire about the freshness of ingredients and any daily specials when ordering.

My family and I have been looking for a new Chinese place in St. Louis to find and try out. We happen to stumble upon this one and I'm very glad that we did. I got the hot breast chicken and it was very flavorful and it was a great portion size. We also decided to try the fried rice which was also very tasty. They also had 50% off sushi rolls that day so we tried a shrimp California roll which was great. They have a lot of options on their menu so it was hard to choose so I will definitely have to be back to try some of the other menu options. The food didn't take long to come out And it wasn't too busy. This is a very cute place and had some adorable decorations.

Good service, clean restaurant, and the food came out quickly. The volcano roll is among the best I’ve tasted, but the majority of food did not stand out. We ordered a volcano roll to share as an appetizer, Wan Fu’s version is terrific. Easily our favorite item at the restaurant. The Wan Fu garlic beef was flavorful, both beef and garlic are prominent; a dish worth ordering. Bland - Beef fried rice, combination lo mein, and deluxe seafood. All tasted like they came from an inexpensive Chinese buffet, definitely edible; but not the sort of item you’d expect to order individually. Extras - the ginger had an undesirable taste, it had an off putting taste suggesting it needs thrown away. The wasabi was dry and gritty. Sliced lemons we requested were bad, three slices were brought to us; one cut the same day, another appeared to have been sliced hours before if not the day before, and the last lemon was orange in appearance suggesting it needed thrown out days ago.

I cannot recommend this family-owned Chinese restaurant enough! The service is truly impeccable—warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, and accommodating to our child. making you feel like a part of their family. The food was flavorful and great quality. The Mongolian beef however was our highlight. It was tender, perfectly seasoned, and a good portion size. Their menu is extensive, so there’s something for everyone, whether you’re craving a classic or feeling adventurous. The interior is equally impressive, with a cozy yet modern ambiance. It’s clear this restaurant takes pride not only in their food but also in creating a space where customers can enjoy it fully. This gem is a shining example of what makes family-owned establishments so special. I’ll definitely be returning.

I recently tried the Wan Fu new sushi Special Roll, and it was absolutely delicious! The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the freshness of the ingredients really stood out. Highly recommend giving it a try if you're a sushi lover! My experience here was amazing and their pork gyoza tasted great

We have eaten here before but they have been closed due to remodeling. Let me tell you it was worth the wait! The food was outstanding! The soup was hot and flavorful, the fried rice was full of spices and tasted fresh. The chicken was perfectly seasoned, not to spicy but just enough heat. Our service was great, they kept apologizing for our wait but honestly it was not long for hot fresh food. She was very polite, attentive and we had everything we needed. Cant wait to go again!
