About Wah Kue Cafe
Welcome to Wah Kue Cafe, a Chinese Restaurant located at 13434 1st Ave S, Burien, WA 98168, USA. For local users in Burien and the surrounding areas, Wah Kue Cafe presents itself as an establishment with a long history of serving traditional American Chinese food. Based on customer reviews, it offers a sense of consistency for certain dishes over an extended period, even through changes in ownership. However, recent experiences with some menu items suggest potential variability in food quality.
One of the most notable aspects of Wah Kue Cafe, according to a long-time customer, is its remarkable consistency in quality and preparation of a specific dish, the "No.1 plate," over more than 40 years. This customer has been ordering the same to-go meal on New Year's Eve for this extensive period and attests that the quality has remained unchanged, even with new owners at the helm. This speaks volumes about the restaurant's commitment to maintaining the standards of at least one of their signature dishes and providing a reliable experience for loyal patrons seeking traditional American Chinese flavors.
The same reviewer explicitly recommends Wah Kue Cafe for those who are looking for "traditional American Chinese food." This style of cuisine is characterized by dishes that have been adapted to American tastes, often featuring sweeter sauces, deep-fried elements, and familiar combinations of proteins and vegetables. For individuals who have a preference for this specific style of Chinese cooking, Wah Kue Cafe positions itself as a go-to place in the Burien area.
However, a contrasting recent experience highlights a significant concern regarding the consistency across all menu items. Another customer reported a very negative encounter with the "chefs special chow mein," describing it as a "gelatinous mess" that was inedible. This starkly different feedback suggests that while some dishes might maintain a consistent quality, others may suffer from issues in preparation or ingredient quality. In this particular case, the customer also mentioned that while the fried rice was "fine," the poor quality of the chow mein led to a waste of over $20, indicating a substantial disappointment with their meal.
The limited information available in the provided reviews does not offer much insight into the environment or services of Wah Kue Cafe. There is no mention of the restaurant's ambiance, cleanliness, or the attentiveness of the staff. Therefore, local users considering dining in will need to form their own impressions based on a visit. Similarly, there is no information regarding the speed or reliability of their takeout service, aside from the long-standing tradition of one customer ordering the No.1 plate for New Year's Eve.
In terms of features, Wah Kue Cafe's primary feature appears to be its adherence to the traditional American Chinese style of cooking, at least for some of its menu items. The longevity and consistent quality of the No.1 plate over four decades suggest a strong foundation in preparing this particular meal. However, the severe criticism of the chef's special chow mein indicates a potential lack of consistency across the entire menu, which could be a point of concern for new customers looking to explore a wider range of dishes.
There is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Local users interested in any special offers, discounts, or featured dishes at Wah Kue Cafe would need to contact the restaurant directly or check local listings for any advertised promotions.
For local users in Burien considering Wah Kue Cafe, it is important to weigh the contrasting customer experiences. If you are specifically seeking traditional American Chinese food and are interested in trying dishes that have maintained their quality over a long period, such as the No.1 plate, Wah Kue Cafe might be worth a visit. However, the reported issues with other dishes, like the chef's special chow mein, serve as a cautionary note, suggesting that the quality might not be consistent across the entire menu. New customers might want to inquire about the most popular or consistently well-received dishes before placing their order.
In conclusion, Wah Kue Cafe in Burien offers a long-standing tradition of serving American Chinese food, with at least one dish (the No.1 plate) maintaining consistent quality over many years and changes in ownership. This could be a significant draw for those seeking familiar flavors. However, recent negative feedback regarding the quality of other menu items, such as the chef's special chow mein, indicates a potential lack of consistency. Local users should consider these contrasting experiences when deciding whether to dine at or order from Wah Kue Cafe.

Have had this place once or twice but this will be the last time. Got the chefs special chow mein and it was a gelatinous mess. Inedible. The fried rice was fine but the chow mein was so bad we wasted over $20.
We’ve been ordering the same to-go meal (No.1 plate) on News Years Eve for over 40 years. The quality and consistency has not changed even with new owners. If you want traditional American Chinese food this is your place.
Absolutely amazing! Fastest service in a Chinese restaurant I've ever had. We ordered and had our food within 15 minutes. Amazing personal service when I asked for a change in what my meal came with as they made my meal first, then my significant others meal. The starter soup is also amazing. I ate it all which is very rare for me to do. The sweet and sour sauce is to die for! I've never had better in another restaurant. My favorite Chinese dish of all is almond fried chicken. I was impressed with how good their dish was. It's a very authentic Chinese restaurant and I'm grateful my significant other suggested it. 💓 We will be back next time we are in town visiting! Thank you for the amazing service!
The mandarin orange chicken is really good. The wanton soup was pretty flavorless, and the almond chicken was alright, but could have used more sauce and peanut topping and less lettuce under it .. preferably none. The fried rice is dry and also without much flavor. It is nice that they include tea with the meal. You'll just have to ask at least three times for it, if you can catch a waiter. We had to chase one down a few times as it appeared they forgot we were there. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, but extremely quiet. An uncomfortable silence that leaves you very aware of the sound of your own chewing.
OMG! My first time at this place and it reminded me of back home in Virginia! I loved the pork fried rice! And of course everything else my hubby suggested. I just wouldn't want to order from anywhere else now. Wonderful, friendly staff! Very accommodating! I just love this place. And it's right up the road!
