About Venus Cafe - San Francisco

Venus Cafe, located at 700 Clement St in the Richmond District of San Francisco, presents itself as a Chinese Restaurant with a diverse offering that extends beyond traditional Chinese cuisine. Based on customer reviews, Venus Cafe serves as a versatile spot, suitable for late-night gatherings with appetizers and snacks, offering a good value for takeout, and even hinting at a breakfast menu.

One reviewer described Venus Cafe as a "nice place to hang out with friends and eat appetizers and snacks in the late evening." This suggests that the environment is conducive to social gatherings and casual dining, particularly during later hours. While specific details about the ambiance, decor, or seating arrangements are not provided, the positive mention of it as a place to "hang out" implies a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere for socializing.

In terms of services, Venus Cafe offers both dine-in and takeout options. One reviewer found the takeout to be "only okay" but acknowledged that it was "a good deal in terms of price and quantity." This suggests that while the takeout experience might not be exceptional in terms of presentation or perhaps specific preparation, it provides a cost-effective way to enjoy a substantial amount of food from the restaurant. The mention of late-evening service for appetizers and snacks also indicates that Venus Cafe caters to those looking for lighter fare outside of typical meal times.

A notable feature of Venus Cafe is the positive feedback on specific dishes. The "fish with corn sauce" was mentioned by one reviewer as something they "would get again," indicating its appeal and flavor. This suggests that Venus Cafe might have some standout seafood dishes. Another highly praised dish is the "lobster noodle with yifu noodles," recommended by the staff. A reviewer who took this suggestion was pleased with the "good portion of perfectly tender lobster" and considered the price of $24.99 to be "excellent." This highlights a potentially signature dish that offers both quality and value.

The "steamed chicken" is another dish that received positive remarks, described as "perfectly tender and flavorful." The reviewer also noted that a half portion, priced at $16, was "plenty for 2-3 to split," indicating generous portion sizes for some of their offerings and making it a potentially good option for sharing. This further reinforces the idea of good value at Venus Cafe.

Interestingly, one reviewer mentioned that they "still want to try their breakfast," suggesting that Venus Cafe might also serve breakfast or brunch. If this is the case, it expands the restaurant's appeal beyond lunch and dinner, making it a potential option for a wider range of dining needs. However, no specific details about the breakfast menu are provided in the reviews.

First time here, and I wanted take-out for a lazy Sunday. Glad I took the lady’s suggestion of the lobster noodle with yifu noodles. Good portion of perfectly tender lobster. $24.99 is an excellent price! Steamed chicken is also perfectly tender and flavorful! A Half portion is $16 and plenty for 2-3 to split.

Overall the food was good but the service was lacking. The menu prices were different then the online menu. There is a 3% service charge for credit card payments. We got Beef Brisket & Rice roll in clay pot (which was really good), Shanghai Style Stir-Fried Thick Noodles (I didn't like the thick noodles but the season was good), Seafood Combo with White Sauce (it's a rice dish and I didn't like the imitation crab but the rice was good), and Lotus Roots & Pig Knuckles (I didn't like how soft the lotus roots were. There was no crunch at all.) Half the tables were taken when we entered so we thought it was a really good place.. but it might have been because there was only one staff member manning the place at the beginning. We ended up sitting ourselves down (group of four) after waiting a few minutes. We got a physical menu after a while and we had to stand up to find someone to take our order - it was about a 10-20 minute wait. We eventually got our tea. The service did speed up when more staff came in (we assumed they were went on break).

We stumbled in here on Clement while wandering around because it was filled with older Asian people and that's usually a pretty good sign. Service was fine, not particularly efficient but not terrible either. They seated us right away but it got pretty busy as we were dining there. The menu is very extensive, there are a million things on there and even more written in Chinese on the wall. While it is a cha chaan teng, I didn't end up ordering the usual western influenced dishes but went with some classics. The food was lightly seasoned and that was perfect for me - some people might find it needs more. Dried scallop & egg white fried rice: this is my favorite kind of fried rice and shockingly hard to find in the city. This was a really good version - it had some wokhei and every grain was separated and not too hard. I was really glad I ordered this. Garlic sauteed water spinach: perfectly cooked and not too greasy. Salt pepper pork ribs: nicely seasoned and crispy! The vegetables with it were weirdly cold but the pork was served hot. Felt like they just added the vegetables at the end and they were precooked. This place delivers on Cantonese food that is decent and has enough dishes that you can come back frequently not get bored. Prices are on the higher side but the quality is decent.
