About Vanloi Chinese Barbecue

Welcome to Vanloi Chinese Barbecue, a distinctive Chinese restaurant located at 3101 Central Ave # 1, Charlotte, NC 28205, USA. For local users in Charlotte seeking a specific style of Chinese cuisine, particularly barbecue items such as roast pork, steamed chicken, and roast duck, Vanloi Chinese Barbecue stands out as one of the few establishments in the area offering these specialties. You can contact them at (704) 566-8808 or their mobile number +1 704-566-8808 for inquiries or to place an order.

As a Chinese Restaurant specializing in barbecue, Vanloi Chinese Barbecue fills a niche market in Charlotte, offering dishes that are not widely available elsewhere. One enthusiastic customer, who drives an hour to dine here about once a month, attests to the restaurant's consistency, stating that they are "probably the most consistent with these type of dishes/protein dishes that they offer." This long-distance patronage speaks volumes about the perceived quality and reliability of Vanloi's food. The same reviewer also noted that they haven't had anything from the restaurant that wasn't "fresh and flavorful," further emphasizing the quality of their ingredients and preparation.

Another reviewer highlighted the limited number of options in Charlotte for this specific type of Chinese barbecue, mentioning roast pork, steamed chicken, and roast duck as key offerings. They acknowledged that while some people might have complaints, the scarcity of alternatives, especially for items like steamed chicken, makes Vanloi a significant option for those craving these dishes. This underscores the unique position Vanloi holds in the local culinary landscape.

The service at Vanloi Chinese Barbecue is consistently praised, with one reviewer stating, "The service here is great though. And the people here are very nice." This positive feedback about the staff suggests a welcoming and pleasant dining experience, which can significantly enhance customer satisfaction.

However, the reviews also point out some downsides to consider. The most prominent concern is the price. One reviewer noted, "The only downsides to this place are the prices. I understand that everything has gone up due to inflation but the prices are pretty high, so expect to pay a pretty penny." This indicates that while the food and service might be commendable, the cost of dining at Vanloi could be higher than at other Chinese restaurants in the area.

Additionally, there are specific critiques regarding the quality and preparation of certain barbecue items. One reviewer commented that "the cuts they use for bbq pork and roast pork leaves much to be desired." Specifically, they pointed out that the "roast pork with crispy skin is not pork belly," resulting in meat that is "dry and tougher." This is a significant point for those who have specific expectations regarding the texture and cut of roast pork.

Regarding the barbecue pork, the same reviewer mentioned that it "does seems to be correct (fatty pork shoulder), but not enough char and ample amounts of red food coloring." This suggests that while the cut of meat might be appropriate, the preparation might lack the desired smoky flavor from charring, and the use of a significant amount of red food coloring could be a concern for some customers.

For local users in Charlotte seeking Chinese barbecue, Vanloi Chinese Barbecue offers a relatively unique menu with consistent freshness and flavor, as attested by a loyal long-distance customer. The service is also reported to be great, with very nice staff. However, potential customers should be aware that the prices might be higher compared to other Chinese restaurants. Furthermore, specific dishes like the roast pork with crispy skin might not meet the expectations of those familiar with pork belly, potentially being drier and tougher. The barbecue pork, while using the correct cut, might lack sufficient char and contain a noticeable amount of red food coloring.

Given the limited number of establishments offering this type of Chinese barbecue in Charlotte, Vanloi remains a significant option for those specifically craving these dishes. The positive feedback on consistency, freshness, flavor, and service suggests a reliable dining experience in these aspects. However, the higher prices and the specific critiques regarding the cuts and preparation of certain barbecue items are important factors for local users to consider when making their decision.

Currently, there is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Local users interested in any potential specials or promotions at Vanloi Chinese Barbecue would need to contact the restaurant directly at (704) 566-8808.

In conclusion, Vanloi Chinese Barbecue in Charlotte, NC, is a notable Chinese restaurant specializing in barbecue items like roast pork, steamed chicken, and roast duck, filling a niche in the local culinary scene. It is praised for its consistent, fresh, and flavorful food, as well as its great service and nice staff. However, potential customers should be aware of the higher prices and specific critiques regarding the use of non-pork belly for crispy roast pork (resulting in drier meat) and the barbecue pork potentially lacking char and containing ample red food coloring. Despite these drawbacks, for those specifically seeking this type of Chinese barbecue and valuing consistency and service, Vanloi Chinese Barbecue remains a primary option in Charlotte.

This place is great. They're probably the most consistent with these type of dishes/protein dishes that they offer. I make an hour drive just to come here about 1x a month. I haven't anything from here that wasn't fresh and flavorful. There's probably only a couple of places in Charlotte that sells this type of food such as roast pork, steamed chicken, roast duck, and etc. People can complain and etc, but there's just not many options especially when it comes to trying to find steamed chicken. The service here is great though. And the people here are very nice. The only downsides to this place are the prices. I understand that everything has gone up due to inflation but the prices are pretty high, so expect to pay a pretty penny.

The cuts they use for bbq pork and roast pork leaves much to be desired. The roast pork with crispy skin is not pork belly. So the meat is dry and tougher. The bbq pork does seems to be correct (fatty pork shoulder), but not enough char and ample amounts of red food coloring.

Roast pork was dry. Pork skin was not quite crispy and didnt taste fresh. Char Sui Pork was as expected. Not delicious but not bad. Just average. Will not be back. Nothing special. We went around 1245pm in afternoon. CON: I agree with another reviewer where they were overcharged for their food. I too was over charged. It is the principal of being honest in business especially when it comes to weight of food. Its sad these men are willing to cheat you several dollars over. It makes me sick to my stomach when you trust people and they take advantage of it. Will not be back,

Update : Do not bother with this place. We called and reserved a duck and drove 45 minutes to pick it up. When we arrived, the guy said sorry we just sold the last one. Will not be coming back. FYI - if you order the duck chopped, they don't give you the entire thing. Make sure to order not chopped if you go here. Go to Baoding for duck, and don't waste your time at this place If you want authentic Chinese style duck, this is the place. There were some flies around the food sitting out, reason for the 4 stars

Beware. They over charge without showing why. No transparency at all. Was charged the price of a full lbs eventhough ordered 0.5 lbs for both types of pork. Not very honest and the duck was disappointing. Getting home to only having all skin and bones.. No meat part whatsoever included. Drove for 40 minutes just to get overcharged and not getting a proper duck. Will never come back.
